Aviador: Your correct I did mean Arrow.

I always use a local company, but for my pains are dumped and collected far away from the airport buildings, the vast majority of arriving passengers do not come via arrow, for me they should be paying vast sums, airport revenue being the issue here.
Your point about hackney carriages and Arrow does not stack up. I am a D E for a travel site, airport taxis are an issue around the world.
For research on both my May and September arrivals there were no taxi's available at Arrow, the wait time was 10 minutes and 15 minutes. Does not do the airport any good when foreign visitors arrive and forced into a system whereby a metered taxi is not available. Advice for Leeds is to organise before arrival from a list of local companies.

Like airforced, I also live too far away and have to use my car to get to the airport. I use Sentinel not because they are cheaper (although they always are) but because they give a better service. You pick up the bus where you leave the car, you don't have to walk up to 200m to a bus stop, no wait longer than 5 mins. In fact just before xmas, we were taken as soon as we had put our bags in the Minibus. They are waiting on arrival (I have had to wait once- 2 mins) and take you back and drop you a few yards from your car.
It is a few years since I last used the Airport car park which, at that time was same price as Sentinel. I was fed up having to drive round searching for a place, then walk to the bus stop (hopefully not raining) and wait 5 - 10 mins for a bus which then did a tour around the car park before it set off for the terminal. It was at least 20 mins from arriving in the car park, before I arrived in the Terminal. With Sentinel, it is usually 5 mins, never more than 10. The system of picking passengers up from the Car Parks may have changed, some one may be ablle to tell me how long it took them.
I know that the discussion has been focused on the cost to the airport and how off-site providers don't have the same "overheads" - don't forget they have to pay the drop off fee - but I changed because I wanted a better service.

They are just as prompt as they ever were Seasider. Almost immediate from the car park to the airport and usually 5 mins or so back from the airport. What I like about them is that they park your car for you which then is well away from careless other drivers either clipping one or other of the corners or dopey passengers flinging open their doors onto your car leaving you with those infuriating 'supermarket' dings in the door panels.

I'd rather go somewhere where they provide a service rather than going to an unattended self park affair where you know the risk of an unknown 'assailant' is always a potential problem leaving you to shell out for your excess and receive a consequent hike in premium at he next renewal.

Oh - and they are always cheaper too. No contest really.

[textarea]Airport car park plans expansion

An off-site airport car park company which won planning permission on appeal is seeking to add another 275 spaces to its operation.

The application for the car park at Leeds Bradford Airport Industrial Estate was initially turned down, but the refusal by Leeds City Council was overturned at appeal in 2011.

Now Leeds Car Parks Ltd is seeking to vary the conditions on the planning permission to allow them to increase parking from 643 spaces to 918.

Re: Road, Rail & Access Issues

Have just paid £48 for 5 days parking at LBA "mid stay" for the end of the month. Considering I paid £55 for 16 days last August at Man T1 Meet and Greet it feels a bit steep to me................

Hi yorkguy

Try Sentinel https://www.sentinelcarpark.co.uk/book-now. I have used them for years now. They are just off airport with free mini bus (clean and prompt) to and from the terminal. I've just had a look and they are quoting £36 for 6 days plus, if you register during the booking process, you'll get 10% off that which will apply to subsequent bookings too. They are reliable and they park your car once you have dropped it off so no chance of the car getting pranged by an idiot who can't drive while you are away and who obviously won't leave a note on your windscreen admitting his mistake.

[textarea]Airport drop-off charges on the rise

Just six of Britain’s 24 airports allow drivers to drop off and pick up passengers directly in front of the main terminal building free of charge, research has found

‘Kiss and drop’ charges have become increasingly common in recent years, as airports seek to squeeze more money from fliers. Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Leeds Bradford, Newcastle and Luton all charge drivers to use drop-off zones.

According to the study by the website Airport Parking and Hotels, the most expensive charges were found at Leeds Bradford and Luton. Both airports charge a minimum of £2 – for 30 minutes at the former airport and 15 minutes at the latter. Drivers who stay beyond 30 minutes at Leeds are charged £5; those who stay beyond an hour must pay £10. The waiting time at Luton is capped at 15 minutes – those who exceed the limit can expect an £80 fine.

Re: parking

When we arrived for our BA flight to Vienna (via LHR) the taxi dropped us at the long stay car park in an area designated for drop off/pick up.
We waited 15 mins and no bus. We buzzed the intercom in the shelter and were told a bus would be along shortly- and that they operated every 7 mins or so. Still no bus came. I spoke to the person on the intercom several times mentioning we had seen busses but none had picked us up. Eventually I had to tell them them to advise BA we had missed our deadline for the bag drop. Eventually an LBA van turned up and we were told the area of the car park we were in was 'closed' and busses were not calling, that the signage was clear and the taxi should not have dropped us there. When the bus turned up I checked the signage and although it said the 'Long Stay' was closed (presumably full) the drop off area was still indicated by arrows. So it wasn't the taxi drivers fault. Luckily BA allowed us to check in late- very late, but we could have done without this hassle at the start of our break. I can take this kind of thing on the chin, after all it all worked out in the end, but I am certian that others would not and would vote with their feet next time. The expression 'mickey mouse' seems to fit here!

LBA YORKIE:
I had a similar experience quite a few years ago and ended up walking to the Terminal from the long stay car park in the rain, only just managing to catch my flight (I had been held up on my journey to the airport).
Since then I have used an "Off-Airport" Car park who transfer you straight away to the Terminal and are there waiting for you when you arrive back.
If you pm me I will give you the details.

Unfortunately the airport not user friendly for dropping off. Whilst I have no issue paying £2 to be dropped of having a blue badge find it strange our parking places are at the far end by the exit gates not in the middle by the walk ways.
Whilst I appreciate security concerns, the walk is very far and we have often been soaked through by the time we arrive in the Departure area. We cant run to the terminal.

Some information re car parking from yesterday's consultative meeting. As of today, Friday 13th, LBA took 'delivery' of a new parking area, with 500 additional spaces that apparently, are very much needed during the summer. This includes the re-surfacing of the temporary surface on the expanded car park area last summer. Total cost said to be 750K.

In addition - the fleet of Optare mini buses used on the car park shuttles are to be withdrawn. These will be replaced by a fleet of 11m long, full size, road buses, which will follow a different route around the car park areas. They will not enter the car park areas due to size, but will follow the access roads that run between the parking areas. Bus shelters will be provided at various locations along these roads, which gaps created to enable airport users to quickly access the bus stops from the parking areas. Because the buses will be much bigger there will be more room and they will not fill up as the existing ones often do. They will also be moer frequent due to the fact that they are not wandering in and out of the actual parking areas. The walk to the bus stops will be short, and the most interesting bit is that users of this bus, will in future be dropped at the kerbside right outside the terminal, where more new bus shelters are to go up. Passengers catching the bus to the car parks will also catch the bus right outside the terminal. These changes will be in place for the peak summer season and are at considerable cost due to the procurement of the fleet of larger buses.

Re: Leeds Bradford - General Thread

Quite a few reports suggesting LBA has increased their drop off and pick up charges by 50% now £3!

Re: Leeds Bradford - General Thread

Yes it's that time of the year before the summer season kicks in when the parking charges are increased in readiness for the summer.

Stays up to...

Cars
30 minutes £3.00
60 minutes £6.00
1-2 hours £10.00

Re: Leeds Bradford - General Thread

Anger over rise in Leeds Bradford Airport drop-off fee
Complaints over new airport charges

Drop-off charges at Leeds Bradford Airport have risen by 50%, prompting anger from motorists.

Drivers now have to pay £3 instead of £2 to access the area outside the main terminal building for up to 30 minutes.

Taxi driver *evi* *lle* said it was a "kick in the teeth" for customers who brought money into the airport.

What are they thinking of. How can this be justified.

Similarly the increase in the fast-track checking in lane. how can this be justified? Have wages gone up? NO!

Re: Leeds Bradford - General Thread

Maybe they are using the extra money to buy a fleet of coaches to pick up diverted passengers

On a serious note what jokers are running this airport

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
