Interesting. Didn't Norwegian have slots for Billund at one stage but I thought they used them for something else?
The other thing that strikes me is that Sunday and Tuesday seem rather odd days for a 2 x weekly service.
Friday and Monday would be more usual or even Friday and Sunday.

I've seen the stories elsewhere. Where's the smart money on (aside from Boston!) as an initial basing of aircraft and routes?

The story I've seen/heard is that Norwegian are going after long haul at MAN, BHX and EDI. All very vague at the minute.

Looking at what was said on the BHX thread, the rumour seems to have originated in an email circulated by the company themselves? Encouraging news if true.

Emails circulated, suppliers being sought, it's all good to go.

I think this one is the real deal though, past rumours of bases have never had as much detail as I'm hearing. A lot of job adverts are being changed from 'LGW' based to 'UK based' too.

It'll be interesting to see the routes they target from MAN. At BHX and EDI I think it is fairly cut and dried that they will target Transatlantic flights.

At MAN, there is fairly strong competition Transatlantic, with the possible exception of Canada. I'm sure they will target these routes as well, but I'd be surprised if they didn't also look at routes like Bangkok, KL and India.

I have been waiting for Norwegian to announce something like this for a while and I expect flights to be very popular. Furthermore, I expect Virgin will be hit hard as you would have to assume Boston, San Fran/Oakland, Las Vegas and Orlando are on the cards based on the offerings from their other bases. Rightly so, too. Virgin has been floundering around with high prices, poor route choice and less efficient aircraft for years. Perhaps it would be a good kick up the backside for them.

Crikey.

Obviously the scope of routes the B788 could service are very wide ranging (up to and including west coast and Far East).

Do we know the scope of routes the B738 can service? For example could it do a New York/East Coast/India route?

I ask because the capability of the B738 may doctate what the B788 is free to do.

I've heard FLL/MCO/LAX and JFK for the B787. Obviously depending on frequency it might not be enough to keep 2 B787 busy so could be more.

JFK will be to rotate the aircraft off the LAX route (as LAX takes the aircraft out for 1.5 days so JFK fills that gap). I expect the bulk of JFK will be B737 barring the the odd B788 flights.

B737 will do BOS, JFK and European flights.

I'm not aware of any eastern long haul flying but that's not to say it won't happen.

Ah! Okay. I had assumed that these stand requests were for long haul aircraft only. On that basis it seemed that the 737s would be for East Coast transatlantic routes.

As a starter for 10 it's pretty good. Interesting to see what if any response there is from TCX and/or VS. Incredible to think that we could have three airlines competing on the west coast run, which was why I thought they might try at least one unserved route (e.g. BKK, KUL) to go along with those where they are likely to face heavy competition (e.g JFK, BOS, MIA, LAX).

Stand availability is now a major concern. Other carriers (Ryanair, Vueling, EasyJet, Jet2 etc.) may yet request more. And new services such as Oman Air and (hopefully) Air China need premium space too. I've not heard of any near-term plans for an apron extension beyond that needed for TP construction displacement. Time for MAG to pull a rabbit out of the hat ... urgently!

Great startup base from Norwegian if they get the slots. Can the B738 make it to the east coast of the USA fully loaded without a stop enroute?. By stop i mean like the BA A318 do between LCY to JFK.

I think the "prospect" of a Norwegian base is due to coincide with delivery of the 737max. It depends if they deploy this or the 787 for transatlantic operation. The 737 max can get to Boston Washington and New York comfortably. My concern is where on earth will they cinjure up 6 parking spaces. I think runway capacity is fine but now out of kilter with a apron space.

I'm far from an expert so others may know more.

Have the cars been removed ?

That would assist.

The apron car park has gone and is now being used for aircraft again, there was a TOM B767 parked there the other day.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
