Ryanair do not use Copenhagen airport, however, they do use Malmo which is just at the other side of the Oresund Strait. I suspect if they were to open a competing route, it would go to Malmo.

I'm not sure I see LBA - Malmo competing with Easyjet to Copenhagen from Manchester and SAS to Copenhagen from Manchester and Humberside. This is DESPITE Copenhagen being closer to Malmo airport than Manchester or Humberside are to Leeds. I think the public are starting to get more demanding of the low cost airlines and Easyjet, in particular, are serving that niche well. People want to end up in the right place.

Having said that, it would be slightly more convenient and, probably, cheaper to get to Copenhagen this way. If Ryanair were to open that route, you can bet they will market it as Copenhagen.

Hi there don't know if this is the correct place to ask this question but please can anyone who has flown with Ryanair in the last couple of weeks confirm whether or not they are still allowing people to take a bag of purchases from one of the airport shops in addition to their hand luggage?

Something in me thinks ryanair could give SAS a run for there money now that they have announced a new service linking Yorkshire to Copenhagen via Humberside airport.

I would expect a fair bit of the SAS HUY-CPH traffic will be oil industry related, connecting on to other places, especially in Norway. I really doubt they would fly with Ryanair, even if they could.

Are Ryanair short of aircraft at the moment? The reason I ask is that there is a Transaero B737/700 EI-EUZ currently South of Portugal working the FR2047 flight from Arrecife to LBA, due in LBA at 11:21.

Now that sure would be one to go out of my way to have a look at, not often you see a Russian airliner operating into Leeds/Bradford especially on lease to Ryanair.

But I have a feeling it is showing a incorrect hex-code and will in fact be operated by Ryanair's own Boeing 737-800WL EI-EKR...

So, no sign of the big announcement as predicted by my taxi driver. What do they know eh??

With the latest profit warning issued by the airline it's possible we wont be seeing any further expansion for the time being.

Now Ryanair are back in Manchester I would expect that they may reduce operations here and at Liverpool. It seems to be at Manchester that their main expansion plans are centered.

There has been no indication that Ryanair are considering any reduction at LBA - or expansion. They are, however, carrying 900,000 pax a year through LBA, with increasing payloads and are reported to be very happy with how they are doing here.

I agree White Heather, but as you have said any news about routes would be deemed commercially sensitive and in the past dropped routes are seldom announced. lets hope I am wrong I would love to be so.

As rumoured I understand Ryanair will start to upload there summer 2014 schedule this week with flights from its London Stansted base been first. So watch this space as I don't think it will be long until Leeds routes also are added!

Looks like Ryanair are dropping the Leeds - Vilnius & Gdansk routes at the end of next month as no flights are bookable starting from the winter schedule anymore.

Winter 2013/14 flights currently on sale
Alicante = 3x weekly (TUE, THU, SAT) Was to increase to 4x weekly with extra WED flight
Arrecife = 3x weekly, increases from 2x weekly (TUE, THU, SAT)
Dublin = 14x weekly (2x daily)
Fuerteventura = 2x weekly, Increases from 1x weekly (MON & FRI)
Krakow = 3x weekly, (WED, FRI, SUN) was to increase to 4x weekly with extra MON flight
Malaga = 2x weekly(TUE & SAT)
Malta Luqa = 2x weekly (THU & SUN)
Riga = 2x weekly (THU & SUN)
Tenerife South = 2x weekly (WED & SUN)
Vilnius = Was to be operated 2x weekly (TUE & SUN) Route now been dropped
Gdansk = Was to be operated 2x weekly (MON & FRI) Route now been dropped

So it looks like the various knockers on here might be right about Ryanair after all.

I think the dropping of routes over winter is more to do with ryanairs bad financial results and profits warning earlier this month rather than the Manchester effect!
It has meant grounding more aircraft than was expected due to lower bookings than anticipated, that along with lowering seat prices on routes they will fly which will hopefully see them increase yield which in turn generates more revenue/profit for the airline.

It not just the Leeds base that's effected, I think you'll find its actually fleet and base wide

MOL has admitted that they are having to make changes to the way they work and sell the Ryanair product by making it more customer friendly and the website easier to navigate. Just last week it was voted the worst in the UK top 100 companies.

Has Manchester lost any Ryanair flights as well or is it still seeing increased operations ?
I agree with Aviador that Robin Hood will be happy we are no longer a competitor in the eastern block market.

MAN sees a reduction from 6 summer based to 3 winter based, but, has an increase based on last winter which was 2 based.

Also, still a lot of non-based flights.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
