The TUI Dreamliner seems more cramped but that could be my perception of light and materials etc. compared to the interior of a scheduled carrier, the Turkish looked more inviting!

It great to see Turkish Airways - Dreamliner Birmingham International Airport. (Hope all is well - drink warm water to stay well - i am tied alot aswell hope to get well again beat Covid- Inshallah)

Best wishes from us all at F4A. My mother who died many years ago after a long life always liked to drink a cup of warm water and said it did her good. I'm not keen but each to their own.

I agree with your sentiments about the Turkish Dreamliner at BHX. I've only been on one which was a Qantas aircraft from Perth to Melbourne.

Looks quite nice inside, is this typical for the Dreamliner or is it more condensed on a TUI version?
They are all configured at nine-abreast 3-3-3. The TUI 787 has 33" seat pitch, the Turkish only 30", so the TUI is far more comfortable for long flights. Generally I dislike the 787. It's quiet, although not as quiet as an A350, but the nine-abreast layout is very cramped. The aisles are among the narrowest of any aircraft, so those in aisle seats are always being bashed by trolleys or people going to the toilet. I also dislike the fact that there are no physical window blinds, the window transparency is electronically controlled by the crew, so if, like me, you like to watch the terrain and the lights below during a night flight, tough, you can't.

Thank you kfs, the older jets are best. My favourite has always been any Airbus and A340 in particular for a long flight. Super comfy and without the usual effects of Jetlag. Shame they nearly all gone for breaking up!

I tend to always look out the window to see the world go by, even at night, the killjoy cabin crew try to stop me but I get what I can!

Small problem I know but that would infuriate me, I'm also one who loves looking out of the window.

I wonder if they can be operated independently or if it's one shut, all shut.

I've never flown on a 787, so not 100% sure, but I believe each window can be controlled by the individual between 0% and 100%. The cabin crew can however essentially set what 100% is on all windows. E.g. if the CC set maximum transparency at 20%, you can individually adjust it between 0% and 20%. I think...

Can you not see outside via the screens on the seats?

Quality of the camera's aren't exactly HD - at night you'd probably be able to see some lights, but not make out anything else (depth, perspective, terrain, water, etc)

I always book a window seat, because I want to look out of the window! Even if I'm just watching the ailerons operating.

They can be set to be operated by the passenger, or they can all be switched so they can only be controlled by the cabin crew.

Several years ago, I would have missed a wonderful night view of Alice Springs if the crew had had control of the blinds.

Can you not see outside via the screens on the seats?

Whilst its a great addition to any flight, it doesn't replace looking out of the window.

Correct - hence my gripe. Yes, the passenger can adjust if permitted but the crew have the ability to override. Cabin crew love a blacked out cabin, as it discourages passengers from moving or troubling them. I've done many night flights on 787s and they always black out the cabin. There is the facility to set each window individually to manual control, but only once, on a Virgin overnight JNB>LHR have the crew done so for me. All other airlines have refused.
For those of you who like blacked out cabins, apologies, I'm the annoying git who wants to watch the sunrise as we are on the final stretch back to the UK.

Doesn't affect me as an individual but I know one person who is claustrophobic and hates the enclosed nature of aircraft cabins. They always sit by a window and won't book unless they can secure a window seat - I don't know what would happen if seats were switched pre-flight. On night flights they peek through a corner of the blinds even when it's pitch dark outside as it helps in combatting their claustrophobia.

I doubt they would fly on a Dreamliner at night if they thought the cabin crew would not let them look out of the window. The cabin crew might find they had a passenger with a panic attack on their hands if they were unbending.

KFS, I request permission to join the annoying git club but only if annoying cows are welcome, as a disabled person I regularly get labelled as annoying for my slow progress amongst the crowds. I can see a new money making wheez whereby airlines set aside part of the cabin for the fidgety night owls that resist the tyranny of the night flight curfew, perhaps the back rows next to the toilet for a fee.

The alternative is a First or business seat or a ride on a private jet!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
