Sometimes Airlineroute do make innocent errors, but, Ray is correct that the rise from 13 to 14 weekly was due in May anyway.

There were a LOT of changes for TK in the original post, so, it could just be a case of innocent mis communication.

Turkish Airlines to Extend to Double Daily Flights from Birmingham Airport

Turkish Airlines will increase its services between Birmingham and Istanbul from 12 flights a week to double daily from the 30th May 2016, offering more than 600 extra seats a week from the Midlands.

Double daily flights give passengers greater choice and flexibility, which is particularly beneficial for business travellers. It also means that customers have greater access to Turkish Airlines’ extensive route network from Istanbul to 283 destinations around the world.

The airline has a successful story to tell. Starting with five services to Istanbul in December 2008, Turkish Airlines soon realised the strong demand in the Birmingham region and increased the number of flights in January 2012 to seven weekly departures. Later that year it increased to ten departures per week and in December 2014 the Airport welcomed news that the programme would grow to 12 weekly flights.

Selim Ozturk, General Manager for Birmingham, Turkish Airlines, said, “Birmingham Airport is a hugely successful base for us and we have grown significantly over the past eight years. This double daily announcement gives passengers even more choice and with 283 onward destinations via Istanbul throughout the Middle East, the Far East and Africa, Birmingham Airport really is the gateway to the world with our award winning airline.”

Initially, flights will increase to 13 per week from the 27th March and then to double daily from the 30th May.

Paul Kehoe, Chief Executive, Birmingham Airport, added, “Turkish Airlines is a fantastic carrier and partner to have here at Birmingham Airport. Starting eight years ago the service has gone from strength to strength carrying hundreds of thousands of passengers. The Turkish Airlines in-flight product is award winning and extremely popular – which is demonstrated by more and more people choosing to experience the service, reliability and affordability it offers.

“I congratulate the Turkish Airlines team on doing a great job here in the region and increasing passenger numbers year-on-year, and for further committing to Birmingham Airport.”

Turkish Airlines has some great offers departing from Birmingham Airport to Bangkok from £414 and Singapore from £441. Bookings can be made by calling the airline’s reservations number on 0844 800 66 66, or online at http://www.thy.com or through local travel agents.

this one has been slow news to get out, but that said, its been pretty quiet of late....

Turkish have reduced a large amount of European flying this winter, this means for Birmingham, a drop from 14 to 10 weekly.

To put it in perspective for other UK/Ireflights

MAN goes 19>14 weekly
EDI goes 7>5 weekly
DUB goes 14>10 weekly
LGW-IST goes 21>14 weekly
LGW-SAW goes 7>5 weekly.

From Ian's post -

Maybe a nice increase from TK in 2018 ?

I suspected that he was hinting at more than just a return to double daily.

With regard to larger aircraft, whilst I'm sure many of us would love to see this we have to be aware of Turkish Airlines business plan. This is to provide convenient one-stop links via it's hub at Istanbul. As such, extra frequency will usually be the preferred way to increase passenger feed into it's hub. This will be the case, until each wave of arrivals/departures is connected.
The exception to this, would be if a particular city pairing (via IST) had a very high demand but one of those cities was only served once daily.

I suppose there is logic to both size and frequency. Emirates clearly prefer size.

I think that generally depends on how long the route is (i.e. short haul vs long haul). Typically expansion is done by frequency on short haul and by larger aircraft on long haul.

Should they get the relevant permissions Turkish are looking at adding major capacity into India, routes such as Birmingham would form a key part of making those connections work.

It should be pointed out that 17 weekly has been applied for but that doesn't mean it will definitely happen. It's not uncommon to see such applications appear but never see the light of day.

We can hope though :)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
