I agree, I think we'll see Mahan back in the next couple of years.

Who will warn the sheep this time?

Seriously though, I would not be surprised to see someone like Iran Air coming into BHX.

I think it is only a matter of time before we see them.

Re: Mahan Air

I thought it was who will warn the Sutton Coldfield TV Mast, i believe it used to fly a little bit low when flying over sutton park on its approach to RWY 15 ??????

From Wiki

23 February 2006 – Mahan Air Airbus A310 operating a flight from Tehran, Iran, was involved in a serious incident while on approach to Birmingham International Airport. The aircraft descended to the published minimum descent altitude of 740 ft despite still being 11 nm from the runway threshold. At a point 6 nm from the runway the aircraft had descended to an altitude of 660 ft, which was 164 ft above ground level. Having noticed the descent profile, Birmingham Air traffic control issued an immediate climb instruction to the aircraft, however, the crew had already commenced a missed approach, having received a GPWS alert. The aircraft was radar vectored for a second approach during which the flight crew again initiated an early descent. On this occasion, the radar controller instructed the crew to maintain their altitude and the crew successfully completed the approach to a safe landing.

An interesting article with 'CEO of the Month' Mr P Kehoe.

It's mostly about the day to day running of the airport but a snippet towards the end caught my eye :)

“The future looks positive for the airport. As long as GDP remains strong, which it seems to be then we will see continued growth in air travel. So far we have seen 11 new airlines starting to make journeys from Birmingham in the past 12 months, and this looks set to grow in the future. There may be some challenges along the way but as long as we have the right attitude we will be perfectly positioned to take advantage of every growth opportunity that comes our way.”

Paul Kehoe is both a blessing and a curse. Him and his team have done wonders in turning the fortunes of the airport around, reducing legacy costs and spear-heading a largest/fastest period of growth in the airports history...but it aint-half a tease when it comes to new routes for enthusiasts like us!!!

I have the greatest respect for Mr K and he always replies to my emails that I send him. He also finds the time to answer my questions each and every one of them that I have fired at him in the past. Yeah he is a bit of a tease but I like that, it gives us something to talk about.

Hi there Brumx, I can only agree with what you say as well about Mr Kehoe, seems to trip up when being interviewed by the media when asked about different bits of info, instead of having notes to refer to, tries to use his own memory which can be fatal, but I must say that last week I emailed him to congratulate him and his team for reaching the ten million plus bracket. He then took the time out to read my email before then he replied back by thanking me for my words of contractulations and praise that I sent him about the airports success last year, then hoped that the success would keep continuing year after year. I suppose that of the lack of forward planning and thinking and investment by the previous management twenty or so years ago, has caused Birmingham to become catch up to Manchester, Stansted, Gatwick and Heathrow, and until Birmingham really starts to show consistent growth of about 5% year in year out, then all Birmingham airport will be doing is catch up where other airports forge ahead, leaving Birmingham to take the crumbs of what's left because it never used it's initiative and forged ahead to say if you can't beat them, join, or anything they can do, we can do better... I believe they are talking about the new HS2 station which is to be the other side of the M42 near to where Melbicks is.

The section below makes an interesting read and it's easy to see why BHX would prefer a direct routing.

Eaton first acknowledged that the gap between the HS2 station, Birmingham Interchange, and Birmingham Airport is a little longer than Deighton’s one kilometre and then outlined how he would like to see it done. ‘Logically we’d like to have a stop directly above the station so there is connectivity between the airport, Birmingham International and HS2. They haven’t done that.

‘At the moment they’ve got two stops about 140 metres either side, so not only is there an additional stop because of that, which slows things down, there’s also connectivity needed between the HS2 people mover and Birmingham International station as well. It’s not ideal.’

According to HS2, Eaton told me that it effectively means there is a six-minute journey time from the proposed station to Birmingham Airport.

‘They’ve also said that in a worst case scenario there could be a 15 minute delay getting onto it if there is an event at the NEC, so that’s 21 minutes. Let’s assume that it takes five minutes to get off the train get to the people mover and board it – that’s now 28 minutes and it’s only taken 38 minutes to get there from London. We just want to try to make sure that connectivity is as good as possible and to maximise it.’

Birmingham Airport and the region have always supported a single stop, a step that would ‘take a couple of minutes off the journey time and also improve and speed up the connectivity’. ‘We’re currently in negotiations with HS2 to try to deliver that that single stop and we’ve effectively got until June 2016 to find the funding and get a scheme approved,’ he said.

Will the proposed link between the HS2 station and Birmingham Airport be similar to the sky train-style transport that is already in use here? ‘It will be bigger and faster. The HS2 link will have a top speed of around 90kmh,’ a speed Eaton thinks will be difficult to achieve, ‘what with it stopping and starting every kilometre, but that’s what HS2 has said.

‘At capacity the rail link will be able to carry up to 2,100 passengers every hour and will plug into the terminal at either end, an approach that will work very well from our point of view.’

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
