New website coming next year.

With new airport security screening requirements coming into force next year, airports are having to rethink strategies to sustain revenue streams from food and duty-free sales, because passengers are expected to spend less time on site.

Quba’s solution for Birmingham is an in-airport “app style web experience” to maintain customer engagement and boost sales.

NOVEMBER NIGHT WORK KEEPS RUNWAY SAFE AND RELIABLE FOR BHX CUSTOMERS

November night work keeps runway safe and reliable for BHX customers
Birmingham Airport (BHX) carried out £2.8m of essential maintenance work on its runway and taxiways overnight in November.
The purpose of the work is to ensure the runway and taxiways are safe and reliable for BHX customers. It included:
  • removing rubber scuff marks on the tarmac left by landing aircraft
  • runway electrical kit maintenance
  • drainpipe lining and repairs
  • replacing areas of taxiway that are worn
James Gordon, Head of Airfield Infrastructure at BHX, said: “Each year we have more than 100,000 aircraft movements, some with the weight of 23 tonnes per wheel, which takes its toll on our runway and taxiways."
“That is why we close the airfield at night in November, when customer volumes are typically at their lowest, to carry out our essential maintenance to ensure it remains safe and reliable.
“So, while most people were sleeping in November, we were removing rubber scuffs from the runway, repairing tarmac, refreshing paint markings, maintaining ground lighting systems, cleaning our drains, along with a host of other tasks.”
BHX maintenance teams removed aircraft rubber tyre deposits equivalent to an area the size of two football pitches. They refreshed approximately 2km of paint markings, cleaned 12km of drains, and made various other repairs within areas of the airfield.
This work will ensure the runway and taxiways are in good, safe condition for at least the next 12 months.

currenty based on the week Monday August 5th to Sunday August 11th next year, we have a total of 99 departures, and 99 arrivals to Turkey :D

Hi there Scania1800, I totally agree with you, I would never do that to anyone, even if you credit them for doing it, you still wouldn't use the information for your own story, if you can add any further information to it, otherwise leave, or your coping someone's work, which is not fair. Utilities your own skills and not someone else's.

Just a request to everyone, if your using Sean’s or any others information and just posting here can you just credit them at least rather than causing arguments and giving this forum a bad reputation 🤦‍♂️
This has already been requested by Aviador in the Site Information thread -

Birmingham Airport storm protocol after pilots battle crosswinds and Emirates A380 circles city

Story by Naomi DeSouza • 1d

Birmingham Airport bosses have revealed what they do to prepare for strong winds and stormy weather after heavy gusts caused trouble for planes landing at airports across the UK this week. Storm Gerrit has seen gusts of up to 70mph hit the UK, causing disruption to airports, train lines and roads - with bumpy landings seen on runways across the country.

In the case of Solihull-based BHX there has been minimal disruption, and planes have circled in high winds until it has been safe to land. This was the case on December 28 when an Emirates A380 circled above Wolverhampton for a significant amount of time on Thursday, before landing.

Plane spotters in the region shared how they spotted the jumbo jet hovering around Aldridge and Darlaston after having to make a go-around. Flightradar showed the plane went in circles above the Black Country region before making a safe landing at 2:13pm, a delay to its scheduled arrival time to BHX of 11:40am.

Disruption has been minimised at BHX with only a few cancellations and delays, with the airport telling us things are running "normally." An airport spokesperson said: “Birmingham Airport is operating normally. Aircraft pilots are trained to deal with all weather patterns.”

If you have used Birmingham Airport recently you will notice different queueing, security and departures areas. BirminghamLive has run numerous articles on security wait times, construction deadlines and when the £40 million security hall upgrade is due to completed.

We even visited the centre of operations as builders work around the clock to bring the terminal in line with regulations by June 2024. The airport re-introduced flight paths to a number of Middle Eastern destinations in 2023, including Qatar and Dubai.

never seen a commercial airliner "hover" before, and re-introduced flights paths to Qatar & Dubai? - journalists ay? :ROFLMAO:

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
