Not bad at all considering where the world is presently, if that sort of schedule is what it looks like in a fit and healthy world say next summer it's a drop of just over 30% on what should have been summer 2020.

Those destinations look like a core network that hopefully the airport can hold on to the question then would be could or would the airport management be bold enough to try and get Wiz in on some sun routes whilst keeping TUI happy and making money.

I believe the likes of Alicante and Palma could take a couple more flights a week it's if a package of other destinations like Tenerife that seems underserved from DSA at present the other Canary Islands and such could also be thrown in. The airport like all airport's around the Country will need passenger numbers boosting somehow post covid and a return to the current figures how and when they can do it will be the test.

Maybe the management will do a deal to offer sun routes and both their airports LPL and DSA

Yes you would hope Peel would be looking to do something with both airports with Wizz however I certainly wouldn't bet on it with Peel.

Think one issue with Wizz setting bases up here compared to the likes of the Eastern European airports is all bases are covered on the sun routes by the loco's, Jet2 and TUI it's finding a balance that will work however if they can still offer flights dirt cheap to buy he Med n such and still make money they'd be quids in and be able to take custom off the big two fairly quickly.

Probably seeing how sun routes pan out from Luton. In effect they have already launched a sun route from LPL last year which was Varna. But there are certainly gaps in Med destinations and cities. They always come up with surprises often at quite short notice. One to watch !

All I can say is this is superb news for the airport, huge really we all know the airport has had its fair share of ups and downs and false dawns with the likes of easyJet and so many established airports close by but this news of Wizz basing should install confidence and certainly some security for the airport itself in these tough times also hopefully it turn the heads of other airlines towards DSA in the future.

Wizz will look to grow sensibly and build on a 15 year partnership that along with TUI has been the airports bread and butter.

Well done WIZZ (y)

Fantastic news for DSA having Wizz Air UK set up a base, especially in these uncertain times!

Below is a map of the destinations available from DSA once the base opens (current destinations are in maroon and the new destinations are in green).

Plenty of early starts and late finishes, plus a very efficient use of the one based aircraft.

Very tight schedule and upset customers with any delays picked up. They certainly work the aircraft hard

Wonderful for DSA it has finally happened but I guess on a wider note it also gives hope that Liverpool could follow soon.

I would say Liverpool will have at least one Wizz based aircraft operating in the next 15 month.

Let's hope so. I noticed they will offer DSA - FAO, this is a route from LPL which could do with a bit more capacity so let's see. But its about DSA right now, so congratulations.

That is what i was thinking. Very tight turn around times though i suspect the crew ill be doing a 4 sector day for POZ and ALC flights.

Not sure what i make of the FAO flight times tbh. Little bit sh*t. I wish them well, but if that aircraft goes tech somewhere down route or diverts i suspect they'll start upsetting customers with cancellations etc.

What can the airport or airline do maybe it will cause some teething problems one aircraft however other airports have the same issue plans will be to increase that one aircraft pretty quickly to two.

TUI could be upset by this development however Wizz are the airports biggest airline and Wizz will grow to rival the big two Europe wide they will end up flying to all the sun routes in the end. I hope it works out for both airlines and the airport however if it doesn't it will certainly still work out for the airport and Wizz. If TUI stay with three or four aircraft Wizz won't grow as much if TUI ever did a runner Wizz would bang four five six aircraft in to DSA I'm pretty sure of it.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
