Good point about Wizz and their possible contribution. Leeds definitely stands out as the only KLM served airport that wasnt open yesterday.
Have you ever actually worked Christmas Day? We seem to have this conversation every year now.

Sat in the comfort of your own home in front of the fire in your best attire awaiting the arrival of family and friends. The fizz is popping, and you're all rocking, and tucking into your turkey and sprouts.

Spare a thought for those who have to work Christmas and for those who don't have to but do.

It is my understanding that airlines such as Jet2 and Ryanair don't schedule flights on Christmas Day. As Leeds' largest operators, its no wonder LBA doesn't open on Christmas Day.

Airlines like Tui do fly on Christmas Day and I would imagine if they decided to operate a based unit from LBA they would almost certainly demand the airport was open.

I think I worked Christmas day (a long time ago so I could be wrong) when I worked at the airport and more recently when I was in forwarding spent part of the day working from home (shipping and air freight are 24/7)

I would like to think LBA asked Wizz if they wanted to fly Christmas day and they declined.

Im not saying its wrong not to open, just stating the fact that Leeds is quite isolated in its policy.

Yes, we had same conversation last year, as I pointed out a few posts ago.

As I pointed out in my previous post, the main airlines flying from Leeds don't currently offer Christmas Day flights so there's really no point in offering flights for just a couple of departures. Clearly KLM are easygoing on the subject. They have been flying from LBA for many decades. I am sure this will change in the years to come if Tui return with a base and if airlines like Turkish make an appearance.

I worked shifts of some sort or other most of my working life. I often worked Xmas day and never felt 'entitled' to a day off. It goes with the job. Also, note that LBA staff who are rostered to work on the day have to use a days leave when the airport decides to shut. When I worked at LBA our department usually managed to alter or swap shifts to suit everybody. I loathe everything about the modern Xmas so wasn't bothered either way. It used to open just for the PIA flight (and maybe KLM) so it was clearly thought OK then. I'm sure it's just a financial decision these days, and lets face it, apart from a few on here, nobody cares! It will all be back to normal the next day (today).

Perhaps personal situations might suit some to be in work? That's fine too, but lets not deny the one day a year to those who just want to be able to spend time with friends and family without having to reorganise their work pattern.

I have worked a number of Christmas Days before. I worked one Christmas when there was no flying. Although it was a nice enough atmosphere and some of us managed a stroll down the runway. It was sad to know my young daughter was at home missing her dad during a period that is meant to be about togetherness.

Obviously, there are thousands of people who work throughout Christmas, in care homes, hospitals and the emergency services and not forgetting those who will be working at airports all around the country.

I’m not sure if this is old news but AMS have amended their proposed flight cap for 2024 and KLM have said they will be amending capacity ”where demand requires” accordingly. Assuming engine issues are resolved does this give us a chance of our 4th flight back?

I think it's only the E195-2 aircraft affected, but I guess it depends on how long it takes to sort them out and the impact in their fleet. Let's hope so though. They need to do some rebuilding after their recent record.

Am I missing something, don’t we currently have four arrivals and departures a day?

KLM CITY HOPPER SUMMER 2024 SCHEDULE

KLM City Hopper have yet again been making some changes to the Leeds/Bradford - Amsterdam schedule for this summer 2024 season.
As previously reported the frequency is reduced from 4x daily to 3x daily (Mon-Fri) but better news the is that the 3rd daily Saturday afternoon rotation has been reinstated meaning we now have 21x weekly flights.
As has been the case for a number of years now during the summer school holidays we see another reduction in seat capacity as the smaller Embraer 175 are reintroduce on the weekday mid-morning rotation and on quite a few of the weekend rotations.

The flight numbers are changing, gone are KLM1540-1551 to be replaced by KLM1018-1025.

Looking at the dried fruit forum it looks to be a bit hit and miss with some lengthy delays so won't help connections. However in the event of fairness there has also been some defence of Eastern perhaps attributing some of it to AMS slot restrictions. That said I think we all have a fairly good hunch on how we think this will go/end...........

Think it’s been hit and miss so far. Teesside seems to be faring worse than Humberside generally, but yesterday the 16:45 actually arrived at 18:44! In fairness Eastern do appear to be investing in this so there is a will to make it a success, but I still feel there is a risk of managing to destruction on KLMs part here. Losing this link would be a disaster for Humberside and Teesside.
