I think if i was connecting flights at AMS id prefer to fly U2 out of LBA if they were ops! Id be worried sick using the LBA klm service and prob use dare i say it MAN which is prob what folk are doing.
LBA has such a big catchment area so it always baffles me why KLM mainline have not give LBA a go, something on the lines of x3 daily, morning and eve 737-7 and midday e170 with competitive pricing abit more in line with MAN, does not have to be as lowcost as MAN but the fact it would take out the dreaded M62 journey and flying a comfy 737 mainline would work i feel, altho yes it did nearly happen until covid hit.
Doesnt work like that. You need a through ticket. We are also forgetting that U2 have a reputation for cancelling on a whim.

Travelling on a bright shiny Neo from Rome to AMS in a weeks time so let’s see what turns up on the AMS to LBA leg! It was half the price of LS!
Let's hope then that they get you more than half way home!

But surely you can just book one of their long haul ops out of AMS minus the regional hop from a uk airport?
Of course you can. Surely?

Yes but it would be on separate tickets. So you'd have to fly say Easyjet then essentially leave the airport and check in again and of course if Easyjet cancel or delay your flight you risk missing the long haul flight whereas with KLM they'd have a responsibility to get you to your destination as it would be on one ticket.

Spot on.

You wouldn't leave the airport. You pick up your bags, then head off to the party of the trrminal
Awkward, but entirely possible.

If you have a checked bag you'd have to collect that and check it in. If you have hand luggage then yes you could but I suspect it also depends on where you are going and if you need to get documents checked etc or pick up a boarding pass.
For me unless i was overnighting before the flight I'd stick with using KLM from Leeds itself. For me that would be less stressful.

So I’ve heard a few things from the inside, some good and some not so good.

KLM are still supporting Eastern, so when people jump to conclusions that it’s sheer incompetence that eastern are having delays they are usually wrong. Lots of the delays are matters KLM not Eastern.

They have courses fully booked throughout the year to provide training to new pilots, this should hopefully help minimise cancellations once they come on line. There’s simply not enough resilience built in yet, and this includes the provision of aircraft which is resulting in some quite odd crew positionings to enable the schedule to run how KLM want it with the crew they have available. It’s probably not going to be popular with the crew concerned.

The negatives are the usual, chaotic work environment and people constantly worried whether they’ll turn up to a locked office. Such a shame because it could be a solid little outfit, but it needs forward planning and financial commitment. I’m sure they share the view that we do, if KLM decide to move it all back in house then what happens to all the staff they’ve recruited and the aircraft they’ve procured?

That said I’m convinced that there’s no other option at the moment so we just have to hope that eastern and KLM get their act together. Humberside is seeing some solid growth on the route since eastern took over despite rumours of people moving to other airports en masse. The numbers would suggest otherwise.

I thought I had deleted that comment after thinking about it! Doh! Well I have now.

Omg - is this getting worse than week 1?

Come on easyJet you know you want to. And despite lack of connections if using U2 I really do think it would cause KLM to up their game.

Also an ideal opportunity for LM/BA to join the connecting party. More to keep KLM on their toes is what's needed.

Proof (if any was needed) that is not just Leeds suffering from reliability on the AMS route, and an inference that NCL (KL Mainline) is unaffected.

Lifted from the Teesside Facebook thread.

Yet I won't see this as yet again KLM Royal Dutch Airlines KLM Royal Dutch Airlines have cancelled my flight this evening!
Let's be honest their merge with Eastern has been shocking! As an airport you might want to discuss this with them ??
Teesside is a fab airport getting brought down by Eastern Airways who do not care one bit about customers .
I'll put money that your cancellation/ late departures and arrival stats are damaged due to them ?
Bring back the KLM plane and service ! Not this subcontract !
So off to Newcastle I go 😡

I'm sure Teesside, and LBA would indeed have KLM back given any say in the matter.

It sounds like theres no option. It a service operated by Eastern or no service at all.
This! A friend who works for KLC. Aircraft shortage, pilot shortage end result, sub charters.
Is it frustrating LBA is part of it… yes, but most of the UK Cityhopper network is being done by Eastern (LBA, MME, HUY, BRS) routes like MAN, GLA, EDI, BHX are and mostly have been KLM Mainline routes.

It’s pretty much Eastern or nothing. Rest assured they’re aware of the performance but without the ability to cover it themselves they have to accept it.

Norwich, Southampton, Inverness, Exeter, London City, Cardiff and Belfast City and Cork as well are for the most part done by Cityhopper. The other airports in general do see a mix mainline and Cityhopper including Heathrow. Eastern does operate Cityhopper flights into those airports as well.

Sorry, but at the same time as Eastern took over at LBA, KLM Cityhopper started a new route to Exeter. In my eyes, that was prioritising that new route over a long established route to LBA that is proven. They can't be so short of aircraft if they are able to start a new route with KLM Cityhopper aircraft.

With high fares, reduced frequencies, and reduced capacities, it feels like KLM are doing little to generate any growth at LBA. In fact they seem to be doing their best to do the opposite.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
