Virgin Atlantic 3Q19 Manchester – Atlanta aircraft changes
Posted 14 August 2018 09:30

Virgin Atlantic during the 3rd quarter of 2019 plans operational aircraft changes on Manchester – Atlanta route, reflected in the OAG and GDS timetable listing. From 22JUL19 to 06SEP19, this daily service will see Airbus A330-200 operating, replacing Boeing 747-400.

VS109 MAN1100 – 1505ATL 332 D
VS110 ATL1910 – 0820+1MAN 332 D

New easyJet routes for this winter - courtesy of "dried-fruit":

Manchester - Barcelona (1 Dec) - 2x weekly
Manchester - Bordeaux (2 Nov) - 2x weekly
Manchester - Faro (2 Nov) - 4x weekly
Manchester - Innsbruck (9 Dec) - 1x weekly
Manchester - Lanzarote (7 Nov) - 2x weekly
Manchester - Lisbon (28 Oct) - 3x weekly

So others like me on "dried fruit" think EZY going on to LIS, could see TAP discontinue, which would not be a good prospect.

Unless TAP see the shorthaul as a bit of a loss leader to fill the longhaul network?
EZY will obviously go after pax who's final destination is likely to be Lisbon, TAP, will carry some of those but, I would think, mainly longhaul connecting pax.

Nothing to back this up but, I imagine, if you look at BA and MAN-LHR, I doubt it makes tons of money but, the route is incredibly valuable to the network.

TAP operates MAN-LIS on a 13/7 basis (summer frequency). EasyJet proposes 3/7 service, adding to Ryanair's 6/7 service. So TAP have plenty of scope to adjust frequency on the route - should they deem it necessary - rather than withdraw completely. In my experience, TAP achieve excellent loads out of MAN. But of course, we have no access to yield data.

TAP do not carry many transfer passenger from MAN, its mainly Lisbon bound passengers. I do use the service and transfer at Lisbon, there are only ever a few passengers transferring

I have transferred at LIS twice over the last year or so, using TAP services from MAN on both occasions. You have to join the passport inspection queue there anyway, alongside the Lisbon terminating passengers. Only beyond this do you peel off to the transfers channel. So anecdotally, it would be very difficult to ascertain how many pax were transferring off any particular flight.

Having said that, I don't believe that TAP position their MAN operation to prioritise transfer opportunities. They would need a LIS arrival from MAN during the morning for that. Most of the useful long-haul connections have departed by the time the first MAN flight arrives. So the P2P demand must be ticking the right boxes for them. And of course, those short-haul aircraft need to be put to work all day, not just on the morning arrival wave which connects with the bulk of departures to Brazil / Africa etc.

A few updates for you, hot of the press:

Summer 2018

Emirates increase from Low (517 seats) to High(615 seats) density A380 on the morning EK021/022 for 31st August, 2nd, 4th & 8th September and the lunchtime flight, EK017/EK018 26th, 29th, 30th, 31st August and 3rd & 4th September.

As already reported VLM have cancelled plans for services to Antwerp & Ostend.

Winter 2018/2019 season

With the IATA Slot Return Deadline having now past the following updates apply.

Cobalt cancel all slots to Larnaca

DHL once again decide that they are not giving Manchester a Christmas present

Eurowings only operate to Dusseldorf but with an increase from 3 to 4 flights per day

Qatar only increase to 18 per week but with an increase from B787-8 to A350-900

SAS remain at 2 per day on Copenhagen

Singapore stay at 5 per week to Singapore and Houston

As expected Spicejet have had a rethink and will not serve Manchester - not really a surprise

Finally Sunair have released slot for their proposed service to Oslo.

So, that's the bad news. The good news is that there is still planned increase in movements to +11.6% and seats up by 15.8%

United could grow flights by half at Washington Dulles
https://www.flightglobal.com/news/a...ow-flights-by-half-at-washington-dull-451313/

United are evaluating introducing another 'bank' of departures/arrivals at Washington. Whilst I imagine this will mostly be expansion in the domestic US market, could it also see a return of United serving Washington from Manchester?

Interesting quote in the article:

"It's no secret that Dulles is a better connecting hub than Newark" - Ankit Gupta, vice-president of domestic network planning at United.

I've seen posted elsewhere about rumours that TCX will launch a 3 weekly Chicago and that Singapore airlines are looking at SIN-MAN-ORD.

Singapore airlines are looking at SIN-MAN-ORD.

Oh I certainly hope so, they are my favourite airline, used SQ51,52 this summer and as my mother was born in Singapore more frequencies there would be fantastic, I assume this is in addition to SIN-MAN-IAH.

Yes as addition but it is only a rumour but if true may explain why AA dropped ORD.

Hopefully it’s true, losing AA may have been a blow to airport but I’d much rather fly SQ to the US, to be fair, I’d rather fly Jet2 to the US (I know they don’t do it scheduled) than any of the so called US majors, second tier rubbish in my experience.

I've used delta a few times now find them pretty good. United i only used once and that wasn't very good I've never used AA so can't compare.

There’s been rumours regarding SQ and other USA flights going round for a few months now. ORD and IAD being the candidates. This was on the back of IAH increasing month on month and extra capacity needed on SIN-MAN. However, this route seems to have suffered a blip recently (unless the SIN-IAH is restricting MAN capacity). The 6th weekly frequency applied for and handed back for this winter just adds to the mystery.

I’m sure SQ could make another thru route work, but whether it’s the best use of their resources is another matter.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
