I believe what is going to happen is a mix of 787-8 and 787-9, as loads differentiate, or on busier days e.g. Saturday.

Also, the 787 is operating to the end of the summer season - will five-weekly be expanded into October?

I would expect to see Hainan daily in the winter too, to be honest.

I think HU is trying to stay ahead of CX, so will mirror what they do.

CX introduced a new aircraft/product, Hainan introduced a new aircraft/new product (earlier).

CX increased to 5 weekly, HU increased to 5 weekly (earlier).

CX increased to daily, HU increased to daily (earlier).

So, while CX seems to be stronger in the winter (let's face it, they started and increased to daily in the winter), I feel HU will not want to loose ground to CX so may keep MAN at daily.

I am getting a really good feeling about Hainan's commitment to Manchester:
-starts service 4x weekly A330-200
-due to high booking levels (around January?) increases to A330-300
-has a great first year of operations
-increases frequency in June to 5x weekly
-adds 787-8 and daily between July and October
-it turns out that it will be a mix between 787-8 and 787-9 as loads dictate

Manchester is now on par with Brussels in terms of frequency and is one of their highest frequency international routes. They are introducing a new menu in business class from May, and a new product on their 787-9s for business class, which is the extremely popular 1-2-1 reverse herringbone configuration. A post about the new product on One Mile At A Time ended up with this comment from one user - I know this isn't too reliable but -

'One source has said to me that Manchester when it goes to the 787-9 will get these seats'

If this is true, with the new menu, daily frequency and possible new business class product on the route, have Hainan accomplished Chinese originating passengers and leisure travellers and now want to chase the business traveller?

Great news. Must have been for consumption in China to coincide with Derby coverage ?

Ps 18 National broadcasters took the game worldwide.

To add my two cents, this is fantastic news. Beijing is obviously a route the airport has long coveted and has now delivered. The important thing is that the route is a sucess for Hainan moving forwards.

Still more scope for China - Shanghai is the next logical new route but having gone to daily so fast I wouldn't bet against Beijing thickening.

Onwards and upwards!

It's mentioned three times that the daily flights are for the summer, including a comment from Stephen Turner, MAN's Commercial Director. What happens after the end of September isn't stated. Perhaps they will see how advanced bookings are looking beyond that and decide accordingly.

Come on Hainan, you know you want to do this from MAN as well: Hainan Airlines plans to operate Guangzhou - Tel Aviv service 3 times a week from Nov 2017, application submitted to the CAAC

Hainan will use the B787-9 on Monday's and Wednesday's from 3rd July. Will also then add Friday's and Sunday's during August.

Confirmed and bookable.

'From Shanghai Pu Dong, Hainan Airlines to operate 3 weekly flights each to Tel Aviv from 12SEP17, Brussels from 25OCT17'

Why not from Manchester, Hainan Airlines? Please!

I wonder how long they were waiting for slots at PVG. My impression is that Hainan seem the best hope for any further expansion to China from MAN. Let's hope the brief period of daily flights to PEK prove very successful and they are encouraged to spread their wings.

The reason MAN-PVG isn't hitting the news mills yet is a last minute paperwork hold up. CA not letting it go so easily now apparently.

It seems like PVG may be a while off yet. If it's not slots, it's airlines withholding the rights. Next will prob a downturn in pax lol.

So Hainan are trying to get the rights for PVG-MAN then?

Air China has a lamentable track-record of sitting on traffic rights and not using them. They do not appear to be disposed towards actually launching PVG-MAN. The converse applies to Hainan Airlines. So the sooner they relieve Air China of those rights the better.

How I would love Hainan Airlines to get the rights and launch PVG-MAN! They are committed and enthusiastic about the MAN market. Let's hope daily Beijing goes well - its looking to be, considering the 789 has been drafted in.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
