Birmingham: Airline, Airport and Route Advertising

Use this prefix for new threads for Birmingham Airport
I noticed today that the two large bill boards at the entrance to the airport now have ads for Qatar Airways.

I think Turkish had them, for what seemed like years, with Germanwings taking one for the last few months.

Both are now advertising Qatar

I spoke to a friend who is recently back from Sydney and she said that Qatar's new BHX flight is getting some good exposure in Australia :good:

There has been some good advertising on Free Radio lately.

Norwegian are sponsoring the traffic and travel promoting their 5 routes.

Birmingham Airport are also sponsoring the weather, with the advert I heard specifically promoting Iberia to Madrid.

Good to see :good:

Great to see some good advertising going on in the Birmingham area. I believe this time of year is the busiest time for people booking flights.

I've sneakily copied your thread for the LBA forum. 😉

If you get the Birmingham Mail, then you will see a full page advert specifically promoting the Emirates A380 flight.
Also mentions that you can fly to a further 35 destinations worldwide on the A380,from Dubai.

The Mail also have an article titled 25 city breaks you can fly direct to from Birmingham Airport.

There's the usual destinations such as Paris, Amsterdam, Madrid, Berlin, Prague, Budapest etc...although Barcelona seems to be missing. Vienna is also included which cannot be reached direct, although decent connections are available.

Is Vienna mentioned due to Bratislava? It's often seen as an alternative gateway to Vienna?

I can only assume so... I suppose it is only a 55 minute drive away, but its one thing marketing an airport in a different city to the destination city, but an airport in a different capital city and country to the capital city you're going to is pretty impressive!!!

I forget that BHX-Bratislava 3x weekly could be the reason why now BHX-Vienna link has yet been announced, but MAN also has 3x weekly to Bratislava so obviously not!

...plus, instead of promoting Vienna, why don't they promote Bratislava, a lovely place, if not as well known as Vienna!

Vienna seems to be the one capital that has been notoriously hard to get a service to.

It's only recently that regional UK links have come online, mainly due to the Easyjet base, and in MAN's case they were lucky enough to get Jet2 on the route initially which then seemed to spur Austrain onto the route.

The Bratislava route only happened because Ryanair were getting FOMO (fear of missing out), and announced it after Easyjet and Austrain came onto the VIE route.

Birmingham has had a scheduled flight to VIE in the past Maersk Air UK operated to VIE six days a week in BA coloures and flight code. Then when Maersk became DUO and detached themselves from BA. I traveled on both services on their CRJs 😆
I'm sure an OS ERJ service could work.

Great to see.

Qatar have quite a few adverts up in various places, Norwegian are sponsoring the weather on Free Radio the airport sponsor the traffic and travel promoting various services.

All good to see :good:

I saw two Qatar adverts on the electric billboards by the M5 and M6 today...one was advertising the 787 but the other was showing an A380 😆

Today's Birmingham Mail has a 4 page cover purely devoted to advertising the Qatar service. Also inside are adverts for Turkish Airlines, including long term sponsorship of the business page.

Emirates and Qatar really seem to be going for it at the moment. I've heard several EK A380 adverts on Capital Radio today.

Blue Air had some adverts at the Christmas Market, Norwegian had some billboards and now have radio ads, the airport are advertising the likes of Iberia but I've seen nothing at all from Wizz. It may simply be that they concentrate their advertising efforts in their base cities? Either way it doesn't seem to have affected their loads

Hi there ray, regarding bhx airport as a whole, with Mr Paul Kehoe stressing that only up to 40% of the West Midlands population is using Birmingham Airport, so if he's that concerned that only up to 40% from the whole of the West Midlands area are only using there own airport at Birmingham, then why doesn't he and his management team plus the route development team us social media - like twitter and Facebook and tell everyone where you can and can't fly direct from Birmingham, because social media does have a huge impact... Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
