Stockport Manchester
This is a place where you can post memories, logs and pictures of your visits to Manchester in days gone by.

Ill start it of with some photos taken in September,October 1987 from the old spectators terrace on top off the now called T1

Sorry about the quality taken with an old camera

Fantastic pictures :hatsoff:

I think many of us on here are suckers for a bit of nostalgia, looking forward to see pictures added in the future.

Yours truly had the privilege of flying on the Aer Lingus DH-84 Dragon back in August 2000. I hope you enjoy the few photos in this sequence.

About to turn finals 24R in August 2000 - before 24L had been completed

Scottie Dog very kindly uploaded these pictures to the "Ringway" photo gallery.
The last very clearly features the construction of the second runway back in 2000.

You must have had some spectacular views flying around the airfield.

This site has a pretty good archive - also some good books for sale.

I'm always on the hunt for 80's MAN pictures, especially after security in T1 (past the chandler area), I vagely remember what it was like when I was a kid, neon lights seem to feature in the area around the duty free if I remember rightly?

Well spotted Seasider - that was an error on my behalf!!

Lets make that 15 destinations, and I'll amend the erroneous post in a few minutes.
At one time you could on a shorts 330 with Gill Air. When I worked in business travel I booked it a few times. With the way the traffic is today...it might still.be a handy link. You could also fly to Barrow from Manchester.

I suppose we can make it 16 destinations now Sumburgh has been added.

Also, don’t forget London City is no longer just summer only, it also runs in the winter, re-starting this weekend as it happens.

Can we forget Northern Airlines who did Blackpool-MAN with Islanders before being defeated by taxis undercutting them

I worked for American Express, we ran a charter for ICI from MAN to MME with air kilroe several times a day. Jetsteam 31

Probably time to get this back on track with Loganair please. I'll move the other posts to Nostalgia later this morning as they are interesting.

I recall past times sat in the terminal watching the SAS Caravelle depart to Dublin. Save for a Viscount arrival 35 , Minutes later, the next movement was the Sud Aviation Se210 arriving back.

How times have changed !

And before Gill Air to NCL, some of us are old enough to remember the Dan Air 'bus' service from the S/SW to the NE with a stop in MAN to pick up and drop off.

I don't remember that actual service, but I do remember as a kid seeing one of their timetables, its stopped all over the place, I think it even flew from Cardiff to Bristol. Mind you very short hops were more common at one time. I flew on an airlines from Liverpool to Guernsey called Air Corbiere, and we stopped at Coventry on the way, some stopped at Gloucester.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
