Differing routes on differing days with ground time on about 10 minutes using skyways HS748 and for a short while the only Nord 262 ever registered in the UK in fact my own farther flew on that several times up to Newcastle

Routes Were something Like Newcastle/ Teeside Manchester Cardiff/Bournemouth.

The Blackpool service was late 1980s. Pretty sure Air Furness were toying with the idea of an IPO on the stock market and looking at exotic routes like Workington, Welshpool and Caernarfon. Casair did scheduled Teesside service alongside the Air Kilroe charters before Kilroe turned their servicr up to 5 saily when Casair failed

Another long forgotten route was a weekly Eurodirect link to Humberside which was a glorified positioner. They had Bournemouth-MAN services and a few routes from Humberside

Like Cross Country Trains, just probably faster....and I wouldn't be surprised if cheaper !!

Does anybody have any pictures of T3 when it was BA only? Keen to know what it looked like inside and the aircraft that used to operate from T3

As far as aircraft are concerned I can recall the following (subject to possible correction by my friends on this site):
HS748
BAC1-11 500
HS121 TRIDENT (1/2/3)
BOEING 757
BOEING 747
BOEING 767
CONCORDE
ATP

Any others that I have missed?

Might the TriStar have operated briefly? Not sure of the overlap between their retirement and the terminal opening. I posted a few pics a while back of BA planes at Terminal 3. Should be in the Ringway nostalgia?

Tristar ?? I did fly to JFK on it a BA one. Was it called terminal 3 in those days , I can' t really remember !!

900 passengers !

In context if United and City can press through to the final rounds of Champions league that 900 will be more than
covered !

Yes the Tristar was mentioned by @thunderchild slightly earlier.

On its initial completion the now Terminal 3 was known as Terminal 1BA - thus signifying that whilst still a part of T1 it was specifically for British Airways use.

That was it....it seems a log time a go now !! Its a shame we don't see Trijets anymore too.

I too had 1 trip on the BA Tristar to JFK from MAN. It would have been, 2 but the a/c went tech on the return, and as it was a business trip I felt obliged to join several other pax who dashed over to catch the last LHR flight rather than wait 24 hours for the next MAN flight.

The good news was that the colleague I travelled out with and I both had contacts at BA at the time and we found ourselves upgraded to Business Class. Couldn't believe my luck when I was picked out of the check-in line for an upgrade on the aborted return. Still, I did manage 2 glasses of champagne before the Captain finally announced the a/c wouldn't be going anywhere and it was economy in a stuffy, packed B747 to LHR instead.

A BHX thread got slightly sidetracked about Finnair and MAN... so for @mullion I've found an online article dated from 18th December 2007 which does contain the "magical" phrase "Finnair will add a third daily flight to Helsinki from May".

https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/business/business-news/ryanairs-expansion-plans-1014435

Also of note from that article
  • Ryanair announced 5 routes
  • easyJet announced their base
  • Loganair starting Inverness and boosting Glasgow
  • CSA increasing frequency to Prague

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
