Great news from Wizz! I'm sure that frequency will grow very quickly. I'm sure it'll be popular for both holidays and VFR traffic.

Hopefully there will be more to come from Wizz!

My earnest hope is that WIZZ have the necessary backing with sufficient funds to support their expanding network because our airports do not need another Monarch type failure. I am always nervous of rapid expansion although I welcome any routes being set up at my local airport!

Rumours that their Riga base is closing so maybe one route we lose... Wizz seem a bit temperamental, they seem to have gone very quiet at BHX with new routes

Sadly it’s not as simple as you say. It’s what suits an airline. Flights from BHX-RIX are bookable until 29th September and they plan to close the Riga base around 2/3rd October so doesn’t look good from what I’ve seen and looks like the Riga-Birmingham route will be scrapped.

Could be an opportunity for Ryanair or even Air Baltic to maybe do the route if Wizz don’t plan on keeping the route.

We will have to see what happens, I flew BHX - RIX last week and the flight was completely full. Hopefully Wizz will offer it from a based aircraft elsewhere or another carrier picks it up.

It might have done well when you flew on it but that doesn’t mean that’s the case for all their flights. There last flight is the 29th September which isn’t the far away which confirms that the route will be axed.

Maybe Ryanair might add RIX to the number of new routes they’ve added from BHX recently.

That is true but the truth is none of us know what will happen, there is no need to be down beat about it, none of us know what will happen. I just said it was full which it was so clearly there is demand for such a service. We just have to hope that Wizz Air UK, Ryanair or Air Baltic offer the route going forward.

I’m not being downbeat about it I’m just telling you what I know about it. Im honest about it and I will tell people what the reality is weather it’s good or bad news. The truth is Wizz are axing this route and it’s been confirmed by reliable sources.

As I’ve said maybe another carrier will look at the route and consider operating BHX-RIX

Reported on BBC today that Wizz have made a tentative bid for Easyjet!!. Easyjet have rejected the offer promptly!.

I do not have exact details to hand but Lots of reductions from early January til March but as I say it’s network wide not just BHX or U.K. & this was before the latest Covid situation!

Wizz - all the current cuts are now repeated in the Week of the 10 January -

Iasi - ends 8/1/22 until 27/3/22

Craiova - from 16/1 /22 weekly instead of 2

Cluj - ends 12/1/22 until 2/3/22

Bucharest - back to 2 weekly Tuesday and Saturday8/1-15/2

Wroclaw - ends 8/1/22 - 29/3/22

Warsaw - ends 8/1/22 - 12/2/22

Krakow - ends 9/1/22 - 9/3/22

Vilnius - ends 7/1/22 - 29/3/22
