The Wizz Air group have 5x bases in Italy - FCO, MXP, VCE, NAP & CTA and all of them are operated by Wizz Air Malta. The only aircraft type used across these bases are A321neos.
On my last count, FCO will have 14x A321neos based there in summer 2025.

Thanks for that Severn so hopefully if FCO is successful maybe a bit of scope for more Italian routes by Wizz.

Wizz air look to be interested in opening a base in Podgorica in Montenegro early 2026.Apparently Birmingham is the recommended list.

WIZZ BHX Winter 25/26 Schedule

1. BHX-BUD: 3x Weekly (321n) = 1,434 x Weekly Seats
2. BHX-CRA: 3x Weekly (320n) = 1,116 x Weekly Seats
3. BHX-FCO: 3x Weekly (321n) = 1,434 x Weekly Seats
4. BHX-OTP: 7x Weekly (321c) = 3,346 x Weekly Seats

TOTAL: 16x Weekly departures, 7,330x Weekly Seats

Far from the 28-30x weekly departures we once had but an increase on the 10-11x weekly departures we were left with after the mass cull of routes. Be interesting to see what comes of Wizz at BHX. The airport have quoted them as being a focus recently so not written off yet!

You would of been surprised when you seen Bucharest daily.

Wizz have dropped Liverpool-Katowice so a route for bhx to consider.
Time to bring back Gdansk and Cluj back

What are the chances of Wizz air announcing a base at bhx In the next 3 years?
Close to zero I would expect. Never say never but unless something changes, they have only 2 bases in the UK - LGW and LTN - and closes their 2 regional bases at DSA and CWL. I therefore doubt they have any interest in a base in the UK outside of London

I know what ur saying and I get your point however we need routes that don’t serve or used to serve bhx I.e
Cluj napoca
Gdansk
Iasi
Krakow
Warsaw
Poznan

Routes that I think should considered podgorica ,Sofia,Debrecen,Sarajevo,Madeira

FCO is a good route for them and let’s see how that goes Wizz do chop and change a lot & in past had Larnaca for a short time

I'm really not sure that I'd want a Wizz base at BHX just yet.

Apart from potentially diluting yields on the traditional routes you'd also have them wanting the peak time departure slots which would only add pressure onto the airport infrastructure. There's plenty Wizz can do from the bases they already have, especially if they could time the flights during the quieter periods.

I'd prefer to see easyjet expand in a sustainable way and add aircraft over the coming years. Maybe target a Wizz base in the future when we hopefully have more terminal space and stands.

What was being discussed earlier was Wizzair UK rather than Wizzair Hungary. They opened CWL but closed it quickly. There were many rumours, including a MAN base but they decided to focus on LGW. Frankly, no loss to BHX.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
