Seeing it written down like that shows just how much potential there is.

There are quite a few gaps in the Eastern European market that could be ideal for BHX and Wizz have lots of bases. There are also suggestions that Wizz may be looking to take on Ryanair so it will be interesting to see if they eventually muscle in on Katowice or Gdansk.

147 inbound from Warsaw which I make about 82% :good:

Wizz Air Launches Warsaw and Budapest

Birmingham Airport today (14 Sept) welcomed the arrival of its newest airline, Wizz Air. The largest low cost carrier in Central and Eastern Europe made its inaugural flight into Birmingham from Warsaw, arriving at 0930 with 147 passengers on board. The Hungarian airline will also serve Birmingham to Budapest from Tuesday 15th September.

Welcoming Wizz Air’s inaugural flight from Warsaw were the Airport’s Chief Executive, Paul Kehoe, and the Polish Honorary Consul for the West Midlands, Councillor Fran Oborski MBE.

Mr Kehoe said, “It is fantastic to welcome another new airline to Birmingham; our seventh this year. Both Warsaw and Budapest are popular tourist destinations that have not been served from Birmingham for some time so we are extremely pleased to be able to offer our customers even more choice and thank Wizz Air for recognising the Midlands as a new market opportunity.”

These two new routes each operate twice a week, with Warsaw operating each Monday and Friday and Budapest each Tuesday and Saturday. Flights are available to book via wizzair.com from £15.49 each way.

Councillor Fran Oborski MBE, said “With such a large Polish Community living in the Midlands, this new Warsaw service will be welcomed by many who need greater connectivity to visit friends and family. Warsaw is also a stunning city with varied architecture and thriving nightlife and music scene so I am certain that the route will also be popular with Midlanders wanting to explore Poland’s fascinating capital city.”

With more than 380 routes across Europe and beyond, Wizz is a major success story and adds Birmingham as its eighth UK Airport.

Tamara Mshvenieradze, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, added, “We are thrilled to be celebrating our very first flights from Warsaw and Budapest to Birmingham. Birmingham is becoming our eighth UK airport with two WIZZ routes that connect the West Midlands with two of the largest capitals of Central and Eastern Europe and we look forward to a fruitful partnership with Birmingham Airport as well as to seeing many happy passengers on board.”

147 is a great first load of passengers considering WIZZ only launched BHX a few months ago.. It will be interesting to see how many are on the first Budapest flight tomorrow ?????

Im gonna go for 135 passengers

Just had a look at the seat map on the Wizz website and there are only five seats remaining for tomorrows inbound from Budapest.

Outbound is showing as 149 pax, an 83% load factor, although not all may have pre booked seats so it could end up higher.

To add to that, the rest of the week, so far

Saturdays (19th) Budapest is showing as 165 inbound, 92% and 134 outbound, 75%.

Fridays (18th) Warsaw is showing as 164 inbound, 91% and 148 outbound, 82%.

Again these only show pax that have pre booked seats but it looks to have been a decent first week.

Those are really "healthy" numbers. Great to see

Loving the WIZZ colour scheme, looks so funky.

Better than the norweigan colour scheme i think.

The thing that stands out for me the most in that photo is LOOK AT ALL THOSE EXTRA BHX PASSENGERS that we didnt have before.

Warsaw is now in the system for S16 but is currently showing as 'sold out' on the website. It looks to be going up to 3x weekly on Tue, Thur and Sat :good:

I'm surprised Budapest isn't 3x weekly but alas still plenty of time for things to change...

Great to see Wizzair increase flights to Warsaw.

This is a good start.

Yeah i would like to see routes like Prague and Sofia added.

Looks like Birmingham will also gain a Poznan route next summer according to wizz airs website

Hi mate thanks for that.

Out of interest where on the website does it say about Poznan as the map and drop down menu are only showing BUD and WAW for me? I noticed you also mentioned BRS-WAW which isn't showing for me either?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
