Just looked on the Birmingham Post and there is funding for a 37-storey tower apparently confirmed for the Tramps nightclub site on Broad Street.

This is near the 22-storey Left Bank tower which has just started construction so the skyline in this part of the City will be going through a bit of a renaissance. Can't forget everything being built at Arena Central too.

I hope multiple 20+ storey towers will be planned in the area around Curzon Street HS2 station!

Ooooooooh you know i love a good skyscraper Jfy1999. Great to see Booming Brum gathering pace, the city centre is full of cranes, cranes, cranes. (y)

Does anyone follow FLIGHTAWARE and their daily news and photo letter?

Today's edition featured a link to a YouTube video of a 'Boeing' ( Rockwell ) B1b bomber departing and landing at RAF Fairford a few days ago.

I admit to hearing many overflights that were unusual in the noise footprint but this is a regular occurrence when Fairford is reactivated as a forward NATO base.

Brize Norton is increasingly busy with regular Voyager sightings.

I recommend you seek out this video clip and if possible, Chromecast it to your HDMI enabled screen at full volume or with Headphones to fetch the best of the afterburners on take off.

It brings back memories of my duties at LHR when Concorde was active. Kidney stones rattling and the 'shock' diamonds from the engines, such experiences are and shall remain unforgettable.

May I ask forgiveness from the boss as I do not recall a dedicated Photography Thread but this a Analogue or Film matter from the olden days!!

Today I found 3 rolls of unopened Kodak colour film asa200 expiry dated 04/2012. These were packed away as part of my forced move into a 'sheltered' bungalow following my most recent Stroke over 4 years ago. They were amongst a pile of stuff that had no furniture in which to reside, kept away from temperature extremities and away from obvious sources of Radiation.

Does any member have any positive advice as to the use of these rolls of exposure films in of fashioned cameras?

I was taught the old school of photography but alas, the digital version has passed me by even though I own two Bridge types ( Nikon and Fujifilm ) and own three Film Nikon cameras, the FE, FM and F3 models.

I am not comfortable with the Digitals but am at ease with the film based cameras. I am planning a test visit to BHX now that the climate has cooled enough for Peggy to ride in the car with me. This visit is to capture on photographic film the A380 before it ceases service here and to enable conversion onto canvas as wall art.

Following this visit, and once I have reoriented myself with the site I can look forward to a group meet etc. but my query as to Film shelf life occupies my mind this evening.

Thank you all my friends :angelic:

Jenny,

There is no guarantee with expired film. It may produce perfect pictures, it may produce slightly discoloured pictures, or it might be completely useless. Basically it's a lottery, I have used expired film and had great results, other times got a horrid colour cast in the prints.

A good tip is to keep all your unexposed film in an airtight tupperware container, with a couple of packets of dessicant inside to absorb any stray moisture. Then keep this container permanently in your fridge, as the cold preserves the emulsion and vastly slows down degradation. I have had success with rolls up to 3 years old using this method.

Good luck.

I am grateful Snag Sir? Madam...My God, this world gets more complicated!!

I purchased these Films from 'Poundland' when Max Spielman went AOL from the High Street, they appeared to be useful at one pound each but I then had other issues to deal with. I forgot ownership and then found them once more but forgot why I purchased them...Strokes do this sort of mayhem!!

I wish to use them but am unsure if commercial processing can deliver reasonable results either by negatives or Prints, with a view to digital conversion.

I have Kindle but I read hard Books, since my Law Library has not yet been digitally converted. My only concession to digitisation is in relation to HANSARD this being the daily in verbatim reports of all Parliamentary business. This is so enormous that it will take so long to print, the digital world will have taken forward the politics before anyone could read Hansard in it's original form, which as an observation, is the legal vehicle.

My immediate need is to have confidence in these films to produce acceptable images thus justifying my considerable effort to visit BHX.

I again Thank you all.

I just wanted to add my congratulations to our Paralympians!

I've been following their progress and have been astounded by their medal tallies.
Great to see that British Airways have deployed B747-400 'victoRIOus' G-CIVA (Speedbird 2016), with it's gold nose to bring them home -

http://mediacentre.britishairways.com/pressrelease/details/86/2016-72/7260

Should arrive at LHR around 0900 Tue 20/9/16.

Congratulations to all who competed(y).

Any one notice the totally inept reporting of BBC Midlands Today's report of their arrival?

The aircraft shown was a bog standard BA B777-300 and not the Golden Nose Jumbo....just how disrespectful was that?

Could they not gave rehashed the original arrival pictures and labelled it as 'Library' pictures as I understand conditions today were poor at dear old Heathrow!!!

Have to admit that Romania is not a country that I have ever thought of visiting.
However I am watching a TV programme where former politician Michael Portillo visits various European Countries via their rail network.
The scenery reminds me of Swiss locations, again shown on a programme some years ago called Swiss railway journeys.
Romanian history and legend is actually quite interesting albeit of a bloody nature, and I'm not just talking about Count Dracula.
Perhaps worth a visit some day.
Mr Portillo has been all over the UK and Ireland,as well as Europe and the USA on his railway journeys. If you are into travel and like to see a bit of the Cities or Towns you are in,check out some these programmes,it might give you a few pointers as where to go when on your travels.

I've watched quite a few of his programmes and they have all been excellent.

Likewise I've never really thought of Romania as a place that I fancy visiting but it definitely looked interesting. A quick look on Google Maps shows Constanta as a possible beach destination, maybe combined with a night or two in Bucharest.

Quick question. If you post a vid on youtube do you receive an alert if someone comments on it?

Amazing pictures that bring back some very happy memories :)

I think it may be a bit of an optical illusion. The perimeter fence was at the bottom of a rather steep bank that ran along the front of the spectator area, so probably not visible from the angle that the picture was taken from.

Sadly I still recall the scoldings that I received for the grass stains on my clothes. Worth it though (y)

I totally agree with your comments regarding the steep embankment and fencing.
As for your comments on grass stained clothing - a proper childhood requires dirt/scabby knees & elbows and holes in the knees of long trousers.
My Nan's house was directly opposite the main entrance to the King George V playing fields in Bloxwich. From the age of around seven, myself, my cousins and friends would go over to play football. We would always look for the muddiest goalmouth, for a game of '3 and in'. We'd return home looking something like the monsters from the black lagoon. Yes, we got a telling off, but we had a proper childhood.

[Edit] - Oops! sorry, Ray. I should have added that 'grass stained clothing' falls well within the 'proper childhood' definition.

Sweet memories :joyful:

Not heard of '3 and in' but I assume that once you had scored 3 you went in goal. We played 'volleys and headers' and 'Germans'. Why it was called that I've no idea. My footballing carear peaked when we won a junior school 7 aside competition against half a dozen local schools. We were each presented with a complete set of esso football league badges by 'coco the clown'. Still have them today although a couple of badges have fell off over the years. Sorry, gone off topic a bit. View attachment 3949

Volleys and headers was usually our game of choice also.

I remember one occasion when I was out by the right hand touch line roughly level with the penalty box. I volleyed in what was meant to be a cross but the wind caught the ball and took it over the 'keeper and into the goal via the top of the far post. Obviously I stood there with a Cantona style pose telling everybody that I saw the goalkeeper out of position and took the chance. I don't think I ever told anybody the real truth :p

Definitely (y)

I've had plenty of injuries over the years sustained on skateboards, coming off bikes, falling out of trees etc. I can still remember the rope swing in Sheldon Country Park, it was quite a drop when at full stretch, as I found out when I fell and landed in some nettles

Wouldn't have had it any other way though :)

Have painful memories of the local park, once got my foot trapped under a roundabout while we were spinning it as fast as possible, by the time it stopped my ankle was down to the bone. Took months to heal. Undetered we still did stupid things and thought it would be a good idea to jump off a swing at its highest point just as the chains go slack. Anyway I jumped off to soon and was rocketed forwards landed badly and broke my wrist. I then had to endure the next six weeks with a huge plaster cast, none of the lightweight plastic ones that you get now. On another occasion I was taken to hospital for stitches in a knee after a bike crash. Needless to say after a week I fell off again and broke the stitches. Off down to the GP to be stitched up again only this time with no anaesthetic. I didn't break them again!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
