On Channel five tonight at 9::00pm

April 10th 1990 Birmingham - Malaga British Airways 1-11 BA 5390. This is the flight that suffered a windscreen failure with the captain partly sucked out of the cockpit The first officer managed to return and land the aircraft safely to BHX.

Worth a view a tale of skill ,bravery and luck all because of a simple maintenance error.

Remember it well. A shocker and astonishing that he survived. It is worth a watch.

flight actually landed at Southampton, not back at Birmingham, BA then flew a 737-200 into Southampton to take the passengers onwards to Malaga.

Spoiler alert....I nearly posted the same. At the time it was underplayed. Nowadays it would have been overrated as a national scandal or national hero for days! Either way a man hung outside the aircraft for what, 30 mins hanging on by sheer luck whilst his First Officer kept his cool and plopped the plan down at Eastleigh. So cool.

The new drive through coffee shop on the A45 is to be a Starbucks, saw the signage today.

Mrs F is gutted as she collects points from Costa.

I'm sure that someone on here must have made a connection through Frankfurt at some point. Would 2 hrs leave enough time?

I just saw this, apologies.

I transferred through Frankfurt about 5 years ago (BHX-FRA-MIA), 2hrs was fine but 1) it was a fairly lengthy walk and 2) there was a separate security queue at Frankfurt that took a long time, around 45 minutes. Im not sure of that second security - which was airside - was due to the flight going off to the US or for some other reason.

When i left security i had about 15 minutes before the gate closed - i was getting close to asking to jump the queue. Ultimately i made it fine. The return journey was fine.

Thank you. There was a Airport Analysis job going and I was gonna give it a try but the employer would probably burn my cv instantly and realistically haven’t got any qualifications for that role.
Slowly catch monkey Ant. Either start at the bottom or....go back to school and get the qualifications you need. If you desire a certain job, then work hard to get it.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
