I’m expecting at least 3 new airlines this winter and at least 10-13 routes
New routes
Kerry
Derry
Newquay
Berlin
Dortmund
Tirana
Gibraltar
Tel aviv
Vienna
Troidheim
New airlines :
Austrian
Norwegian
EasyJet
We already have Easyjet & Eurowings !
Austrian who knows but we do need Vienna
Norwegian - I doubt.

New airlines for me are Pegasus & Play

New routes for me are Berlin, Oslo, Helsinki. Seville, Stuttgart, Gibraltar, Newquay, Hamburg, Vienna & Toronto

Icelandair please …. But after last time I do realise very unlikely.
Cologne - please no so many have tried before
Berlin Hamburg Stuttgart yes please… but I do think only Berlin stands a chance for 180 seater aircraft

1.Pegasus hold slots for SAW still ,so very possible next year.
2.PLAY put in for slots this year and withdrew then so another possible one.
3.Singapore Airlines, very unlikely until they max out Manchester.
4.Cathay Pacific..ditto to SQ.
5.Air Transat YYZ never say never.
6.SAS/Norwegian Oslo.
7.Finnair..one day hopefully.
8.A US carrier to NY.Once AA and 9.United get A321XLRs the economics might work.
10.Hainan to Beijing.

1. Turkish x2 daily year round
2. Egyptair to Cairo
3. Royal Air Maroc (I believe they used to fly to bhx in 2018 or 2019?)
4. The morning Emirates flight back. Doesn’t need to be daily but at least x3 weekly. Or they could operate the morning flight instead of the afternoon/evening flight on some days.
5. Any airline flying to the US and Canada. As long as they are a well established carrier and aren’t showing signs that they will go bust 🙄
6. Aer Lingus UK. Would love to see a long haul carrier based at BHX.

Ideally I would like to see more flights offered to major European cities. I don’t see BHX becoming an LHR and attracting all the flag carriers but if BHX could get direct services to more major cities, it would give pax more options when travelling. Now that we will be getting an easyJet base, hopefully it will become more affordable for BHX travellers wanting to travel further east.

Funny looking back on this thread and seeing what’s come, what’s gone, what’s still unserved. As things stand now I’d say..

Iberia back to Madrid
Icelandair back to Reykjavik
Jet 2 adding Mytliene and Mykonos doesn’t seem implausible
Berlin
Riga
Marseille
Gibraltar
Another carrier to Rome
TUI - bringing back Porto Santo, Goa and Phuket
Air India - Mumbai
Pegasus - Istanbul

Longer term, BHX-Tel Aviv might be one for easyJet. At the moment their only UK-TLV routes are London and Manchester, however.

Who do you think would fly to Kerry/Derry?? Aer Lingus/Emerald? Do they have the aircraft for it, and it there even is a demand for these flights currently?
Ryanair do fly a couple of times a week to both of these airports from Manchester so I wouldn’t rule it out completely although it may be another one for the longer term, if/when our Ryanair base grows some more.

Tel Aviv is very dependent on the large VFR populations in London and Manchester. EasyJet will avoid competing with itself at BHX as it has a strong presence on LTN-TLV. Also the route takes an aircraft and crew out for c.11 hours so would only be viable once there was a substantial base at BHX.

3. Royal Air Maroc (I believe they used to fly to bhx in 2018 or 2019?)

We had Air Arabia Maroc for a while doing Agadir.

Happy to stand corrected but don't think we've ever (at least in the last 10-20 years) had Royal Air Maroc or Casablanca served?

10.Hainan to Beijing.
Numbers 3, 4, 8 and 10 are complete fantasies at this current moment in time. Hainan to Beijing seems the least unlikely, however they will be more inclined to increase MAN back to daily

As for number 8, the best shot for that is JetBlue although there is no mention of BHX anywhere on their "wishlist" of transatlantic destinations. JFK-GLA and JFK-MAN will, if they stick to their plans, be the next additions in the UK

6. Aer Lingus UK. Would love to see a long haul carrier based at BHX.

EIUK was launched as practically a BA low-cost division - following the collapse of TCX, BA mulled basing a few Dreamliners up in Manchester to counter the inevitable Virgin expansion. This then turned into Aer Lingus doing core TATL routes BOS, BGI, JFK, MCO.

Realistically, EIUK are committed to more growth out of MAN. To see them base a couple A321s at BHX and perhaps launch JFK would be amazing, but it simply isn't realistic.

To be honest I don't see EIUK expanding out of Manchester - but if they went somewhere, it'd be Glasgow. GLA like MAN has seen a decimation of specifically US routes in recent years. With that new rumour that Aer Lingus will join Oneworld from 2025, I just can't see BA being happy with them setting up shop at BHX.

I wish somebody flew direct to Nice other than Jet 2 in July next year, just checked their prices for 19-22 July £420 return from BHX as I want to go and watch the last 2 stages of next years Tour De France there, during those days

Ended up booking Easyjet LGW to Nice 18-22 July (got an extra day to go and visit Monaco now) for £112 return. Train will cost me around £50 return to get down there and back.

Price differential is amazing, but with no competition that I can find, Jet2 can charge what they want, I suppose.

That does seem excessive for a 90 minute flight. Particularly trying to book early. Jet2 were doing Cyprus for £79 recently one way.

Having just come back from Iceland...via LGW.... More to Keflavik. If I was going to the US I would do so via KEF. So simple and plenty of destinations to choose from.

But, more flights to Iceland regardless. Amazing place.

Edit: and not a drop of litter anywhere. The locals know how to respect the environment and each other.

Much like Canada in the people and Litter or at least I don't remember their being any litter. I went to Victoria the capital of British Colombia on Vancouver Island Very Beautiful Scenery on flying into YVR and YYJ and around Victoria. But Yes I agree more flights to Iceland, If we can't get Play or Icelandair maybe Easyjet could consider it

Looks like you had a similar itinerary in Canada as my wife and I did.

Now having Canada on my wishlist is a must.

We, of a certain age, look back to the days when we had WARDAIR and CP AIR, regularly sending DC-10s and occasionally 747's into BHX for a regular flight to Toronto. I got the plane spotting bug from those visits to the airport to see these giants before the new terminal was dreampt of.

A new link to Toronto could solve the Atlantic link to North America that is beyond the seasonal offerings from Tui.

Toronto (YYZ) used to be such a busy route from BHX, with other airlines such as Nationair (DC-8s) Worldways (Tristars and DC-8s) amongst others. I remember one day at school (first thing, before lessons started), we were in the playground and a CP Air DC-8 came over so low, that one of the boys exclaimed '******* ****!'. It would be good to get that route back.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
