I echo the comments about Peter Sallis. My first memory of him though, when I was still a teenager, was his role as Samuel Pepys in a BBC series in the late 50's. Why I should remember that, I'm not sure, but he was a fine actor.

That was the role I immediately thought of when I heard of his death today. I'm glad he had a decent innings.

I used to watch Trumpton, Camberwick Green and Chigley with our kids when they were young - they are now 47 and 49. We've still got a long-playing record of some of the songs somewhere.

Interestingly, only 13 episodes of each of the three series were ever made - 39 in total. They must have replayed them endlessly in the 1960s and 1970s.

In our area the fire brigade is often known as Trumpton by some people. Is this a general thing or just in the Bristol area?

RIP Chester Bennington.

The lead singer with rock band Linkin'Park died in an apparent suicide at home on Friday 21st July.
Chester had been suffering from depression for a while, but it is believed that his grief over the the passing of his close friend Chris Cornell was just too much.
Linkin'Park are one of those bands that will split opinion, and I have to admit that I didn't know that much about them until about 10 or 11 years ago. It was shortly after discovering Brums own Kerrang music station that I started hearing the likes of Linkin'Park on a regular basis. Many of their songs tell of the darker sides of love, life, relationships and the world in general. Most of which came from personal experiences, which makes his suicide all the more tragic.Chester suffered abuse as a child.
Chester had 6 children.5 from 2 marriages plus 1 adoption.Terribly sad for those kids, family and band mates.

RIP Carol Lee Scott Grotbags the witch

She used to terrify my little sister when we were kids. I still have visions of her diving behind the sofa whenever she came on TV :) Apparently I used to be scared of The Hulk so maybe our family has issues with green people.

Rest In Peace Carol and thanks for the memories.

I can't believe John Heard was 71. Time really does pass by so quickly. Grotbags was simply brilliant. Kids today don't know what they're missing.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
