Wolfheze I'm so, so sorry to hear that.

I would like to say that spending time on this forum has helped me so much over the last couple of years even if all I've really contributed are tales from back in the day.

Your contribution has been much more than that, even so you've probably worked out that most of us on here love a bit of nostalgia. Little consolation I know but we are always here if you need us.

I know from experience that there are no words, so all I can offer you is my thoughts and prayers.

I've lost both of my parents, so I understand what you are going through.
I hope the forum continues to help you in future. I found it useful to have a distraction and you know you have many friends here.

Wolfheze so sorry to hear of your loss both my mum and mother in law were lost to this dreadful illness which takes a horrible toll on everyone involved, please try and stay strong and remember the love and good things.

May I also add my condolences to those already offered. I lost both my parents 12 years ago and my partner's mother (and last relative) died in June of this year from dementia. Please take comfort from the support you have received from members on this forum and, if you ever need to talk, feel free to post on here.

Very sad to read of the passing of John Young. What an incredible man and an equally incredible career.
My condolencies go to his family and friends. I'm sure that they will take comfort in the knowledge that he lived every day to it's fullest and pushed the boundaries of Human exploration to unbelievable levels.
By way of a tribute, I highly recommend the book 'Into the Black' by Rowland White. This incredibly well researched book details the development of the Space Shuttle, culminating in it's inaugural flight crewed by John Young and Bob Crippen.

Had the privilege of visiting the Kennedy Space Center in 2016 and you have to stand next to the Saturn 5 to appreciate it's size and power, as they say overthere awesome !

Finally got round to watching Star Wars: the Last Jedi tonight, one scene in particular stands out and is all the more poignant after the sad loss of Carrie a Fisher. A fitting tribute.

It is a sad day for football fans today.
Cyril Regis,one of the best players I have ever seen play has died of a heart attack aged just 59.
One of West Bromwich Albions’ Three Degrees,Regis was part of one of the best Albion teams ever to grace the footballing stage.
He also played for other local teams so it won’t just be the baggies fans mourning him today.

Cyril Regis RIP.

Yes really sad news came from non league and was pretty much a one club man I'll always remember the goal he blasted in against Man Utd in that 5-3 away win way back, sadly only one of Ron Atkinsons three degrees left with us.

I have not been to my football spiritual home for a few years now and memories of the ground are hazy. But if there is another gate to this great club please let it be called the Cyrille Regis Gate. Once a legend, always a legend. RIP Cyrille you rank among the greats of the beautiful game.

I can't remember if I saw Cyrille play 'in the flesh' so to speak but I saw him on tv many times of course. He was the uncle of Jason Roberts, who I did see play (brief loan spell at Bristol City and a couple of seasons with Bristol Rovers), and the cousin of John Regis the sprinter.

The first black player I remember seeing play at a match was Charlie Williams, centre-half for Doncaster Rovers in the late 1950s in the old Second Division. Charlie became famous as one of the comics on the hit ITV programme of the 1970s The Comedians that made the names of the likes of Frank Carson, Roy Walker, Tom O'Connor, Mike Reid (later in East Enders), Bernard Manning, Russ Abbot, Stan Boardman and others.

Players like Charlie Williams, Clyde Best at West Ham, Cyrille's friend Laurie Cunningham (very sadly killed in a car crash at a young age) and of course Cyrille himself are owed the greatest of respect as the pathfinders whose determination to succeed, often in the face of prejudice, led to the many black players who grace our great game nowadays.

R.I.P. Cyrille - a fine footballer and a fine man.
