RIP a hero:(
Yes, a real hero. The word is so often belittled these days with the likes of sports people being called heroes for winning important matches or medals.

The country has so much for which to thank Geoffrey Wellum and his colleagues. The debt can never be repaid.

RIP with Honour, Sir!

Just for the record, his name was Geoffrey Wellum.
Likewise, I was also saddened to read of his passing. In recent years, his face became familiar from many documentaries about the Battle of Britain.
I'm sure it was in one of those documentaries, he explained that he set the trim on his Spitfire so that it didn't fly quite straight. Not enough to make it unstable, but enough that it wasn't going into the space that a pursuing fighters guns would be aiming.
We are foreverer indebted to yourself and the others of 'The Few'.

Blue Skies, Sqn Ldr Geoffrey Wellum!

Kevin

Yes, many thanks for the spelling correction and contents of your post.

Mary Ellis R.I.P.

Mary Ellis who flew in WWII with the ATA delivering aircraft to the RAF, sadly passed away today aged 101.
A quite incredible lady, whose face had become familiar from many documentary programs.
She is a great example of the many unsung heroes of the war effort. Without the likes of her, the RAF would not have recieved the aircraft they needed.

Blue skies, Mary!

That is wierd. I received a news notification this morning saying he'd died. I didn't think any more of it and posted here.

I had a BBC notification again today about Burt Reynolds but I wanted to make sure he'd definitely hung his boots up before posting after last Monday's fiasco.

RIP Burt Reynolds.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
