Shane Warne

Very sad news and a tremendous shock. He was found in his villa in Thailand, with a heart attack the suspected cause of death. He was 52.

When a young man he played in Bristol club cricket and our son's dubious claim to captaincy is that on one occasion he removed the young Warney from the attack because he thought there were better options elsewhere in the team. He's kept in touch with the Australian star bowler ever since those youthful days in the West Country.

I've just spoken to our son who had been contacted by the local BBC radio station with a request to speak about Warney.

I never met Shane Warne but our son always spoke highly of him.

Sincere condolences to his loved ones. RIP.

Such sad news, it was one of those moments that actually stopped me in my tracks.

It made it even worse to hear about the passing of Rod Marsh.

A very sad day indeed :(

The word 'legend' gets banded about a little too much these days but for me, Warne is definitely up there.

To think that just a few hours earlier, Warne had paid tribute to Marsh. 2 players who would walk into an all-time Australian team and probably a World XI. Hard but fair players (witness Marsh's displeasure at that underarm ball and Warne seeking out an opponent who had played well to offer his personal congratulations). Strange how what difference a nationality makes; the early part of his Test career was very ordinary - 1 wicket as a cost of over 300 runs in 2 and a half games. If he were English, he would have been banished, never to be seen at Test level again.

Actor Lynda Baron has passed away aged 82

She was known for acting on Eastenders and also the Cbeebis kids program “come Outside” which I watched when I was younger

Sadly, not a good day yesterday. Depeche Mode keyboardist Andy Fletcher passed away aged 60.

And Alan White, drummer with Prog Rock band Yes passed away aged 72.

RIP Gentlemen and thank you for the music.

Lester Piggott RIP

Sad to read that record breaking Jockey, Lester Piggott has passed away aged 86.

Whilst I was never a big fan of horse racing, he was synonymous with the sport and was a household name. I hadn't realised he was of that age.

Ride on Lester!

Kevin

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
