Travelled on BMI to LHR on numerous flights including a Busy Bee F27! Bear in mind at one stage you could get a helicopter flight from Small Heath to BHX as well!

Bet my grey cells are older, been going to BHX (Elmdon) since the 60s, always fly from there when possible just come back from Gran Canaria, 2 more flights booked.

As I said seems a nice forum with a nice sprinkling of blue noses.

Thanks for the welcome, no choice about the blues as my dad used to play for them although never got beyond the reserves.

Will post some BHX memories on the nostalgia thread in the next few days, used to live by the ice rink and walk along the Cov. road or through Elmdon park to the original terminal .

Anyway should go now as thread drift will get me banned on day one!

Don't worry, it's not like that here.
As Thunderchild said -

I shouldn't worry, I think the regulars on here have all been guilty of drifting off topic every now and again!

Threads drift regularly. If they drift off topic, then either Ray will move the relevant posts to a more appropriate thread, or one of the Forum members will ask Ray to do so (a note is left in the original thread, referring to its new location). In just about all cases, the topic is still of great interest and continued discussion in its new location is highly encouraged.

Community Express used to fly EMA-BHX-LGW-BHX-EMA with a Jetstream 31 back in the 90's, not certain if the BHX-EMA leg was bookable for passengers though!

I can remember BA flying a 748 between MAN and BHX (I particularly remember this on a Sunday afternoon), which may have been part of a longer route (GLA or EDI to MAN then BHX and possibly on to SOU). I can also remember a second BA flight between MAN and BHX (possibly a One-Eleven) around the same time as the 748 flight.
Can anyone spread more light on this?

Kevin

I flew BA 748 on a Sunday in the early/mid 80's BHX-MAN-GLA-ABZ (think it started at SOU). Short runway take off dodging any double decker on th Cov Rd, then sharp right and the steward serving the first drinks of the flight. By the time I arrived at ABZ I had enough miniatures to offer the taxi driver a couple as a tip - he was well pleased.
On another occasion flew Brymon twin otter to Gtwick and as we taxied out the pilot offered the spare cockpit seat to anyone who fancied it - I was at the back - curses.

Orlando (MCO)? I believe Monarch may have flown there once with the DC10?

Not just Monarch to MCO

Thomson 767
U.K. Leisure 767
Air Europe757
Air 2000 757 (I think)

Flown on the first two, also went to Sanford last October with the grandkids and their parents, guess who paid?

A weekly summer only service is pretty pathetic their must be a daily stream of traffic up the M6 every day.

And nobody has been banned from the Birmingham forum.......yet :sneaky:

Yes it was to Milan.

1st post been watching this very good forum for a while.
Hi Rollo. Enjoy your stay with us. Long may it reign.

I once had a wonderful history of BHX book, but sadly it is no more. Literally ran through every service that had served the airport from year dot. Wish I had kept it now. Add the c100 destinations listed in this thread to the, what, 140 currently served and it is heck of a route map.

I actually have a few old BA timetables from the 80's, and back in summer 1985 :-

BA5690 BHX-MAN-ABZ 07:45-08:15/08:35-09:35 B11 Mon-Fri
BA5686 BHX-MAN-GLA-ABZ 17:00-17:30/17:50-19:05/19:35-20:25 HS7 Sun
BA5688 BHX-MAN-ABZ 17:45-18:15/18:35-19:55 HS7 Mon-Fri

and in 1989 we had 4 daily departures to Manchester by BA, however this must have been overkill and the route end at the end of 1989! quite amazing really!!

Never mind lost routes, how about those missing services?

I have always lamented the absence of WASHINGTON, ATLANTA, LAX or SFO in the USA, MOSCOW in the east, a decent CHINESE service with UK a good option for inward Chinese travel.

Nothing of note for non tourist traffic to Africa. Is BHX expanding at random or by design?

On a personal note, my apologies for my absence, my disability benefits were withdrawn, my vehicle was seized and I had yet another stroke to keep me busy but Virgin Media decided to cancel my Direct Debit then withdrew internet services.

Is life not interesting?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
