Lost Routes

I don't think I'll lose any sleep about not seeing Dushanbe or Bishkek again 🙂

Looking at the routes that have gone in the last couple of years there are some key markets there that really need to be replaced sooner rather than later.

How much notice do airlines give BHX when removing/cancelling routes? Just seems so strange to see a sizeable reduction (as if there are other forces at play such as new entrants etc)

Birmingham has a good catchment, the airport is a decent size. Why are we struggling so much to keep airlines during a time when there is 500 million pounds of investment going into the airport. I hope they pull more than one rabbit out of the hat when they do announce something, we need a bit of confidence back!

Hi there Angie88, apart from EasyJet, Jet2 and Ryanair, these are possibly the only was when announcement of any routes may come from... Andyc

I would be surprised to see any major increase by Ryanair next year, with the Max issues, arn't they planning to cut back at Stansted for next year, so can't see any new routes from them, Wizz is the only other outside possibility at present..

Hi there Ray, so how many routes would you say that Birmingham Airport has lost completely since the beginning of 2000.

It’s not just a BHX thing .... have a look at Cardiff DSA LBA GLA SOU etc ... the whole country is in limbo with lots of uncertainty for many, The sad loss of TC will help the other airlines & certainly think that holidays will cost more ... which won’t help pax numbers increase

Hi there Ray, so how many destinations does Birmingham Airport fly to directly and not via any connections.. Andyc

Hi Andrew, I’d have hoped other increases for S20 may have come from the likes of easy or maybe Whizz for Europe but also maybe a reconnection to Toronto with westjet or even the hotly anticipated route east would have been a welcomed boost! But at the moment it’s just looking like reductions & I’m not confident with Flybe returning in March to serve Berlin or Milan.

I know routes are being lost across the board with Ryanair but if MAN can get an additional based aircraft this winter, I would have hoped we could have at least maintained the status quo with Ryanair!

Don`t think the Manchester thing is quite as simple as I think they are changes to the Canaries etc which have lost based aircraft, maybe wrong but it looks that way

after doing a little bit of checking, these are the routes lost since 2000 that i can come up with, there might be more, but it's a rough guide:-

so if Hamburg and Hanover are lost, that would make it 100 routes.
At least 40 of those should be served from a World Beta city. A disgrace. Bang heads together time.

All routes were busy from Birmingham International Airport so sad we need them all back - no more to say just think so sad. made :yawn:me cry

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
