Forgot to add that at work this morning I walked in on a conversation about Primera (totally unprovoked by me, I hadn't even mentioned them). They were saying that these are new flights and the product looks quite good. Within five minutes one of them had booked four seats to NYC :)

I hope a sign of things to come.

Same here - 3 work colleagues booked a city break to NYC next June, some bargain fares to be had

I'm surprised people think the fares are cheap, because for the searches I have done they are more expensive than United.

In Sept 2017 I can fly United to Newark for £370 rtn in economy with a meal,IFE, checked luggage etc.

In Sept 2018 I can fly Primera to Newark for £365 rtn with carry on only, no meal, no IFE. If I want checked baggage and a meal it's £465.

TATL is back at BHX :joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful::joyful:

After my initial "unsure" feeling last night, i also have had time to think about Primera and the fact they are also opening bases at STN/CDG makes me think they have ambitions to be the new norweigan. The fact that BHX will be with them from the start, makes me feel really excited.

If Toronto is confirmed year round (what we have been praying for) and maybe Washington Dulles, WOW

How things can turn around so quickly, but lets take one step at at time and not to get to over excited. For now im just happy we have daily New York and Boston for the first time ever direct. :)

I love the livery of Primera, really cool and modern.

interesting no seat back entertainment, they advice you to bring your own tablet/devices. That said, the images of their 737Max clearly show IFE screens!

According to Airbus, the A321Neo has a maximum range of 6,500km.

@ 5,500km we have Halifax, Boston (Served), New York (Served), Ottowa, Quebec, Montreal

@ 6,000km we have Philadelphia, Washington, Toronto, Detroit, Bermuda

@ 6,500km we have Chicago

Don't forget you have to add in weather and divert contingency so really the first ones are the only real options with a good margin.

Depends when you look. August 2017 vs August 2018, United is £1288, Primera is £505. End of September 17/18. United £537, Primera £421. Earlier in September, United £388, Primera £463 (£364 "low fare").

With the exception of the "low fare", the above prices offer checked luggage and a meal.

Personally speaking, a meal I'm not too fussed about, I can have one in the airport cheap enough, before I get to the airport, or take something with me.

Checked luggage, depends how long I'd be going for. Short trip, I could manage with cabin baggage, longer trip, with the exception of the earlier September option, checking luggage is included, and even adding luggage to the "low fare" option only makes it £26 more expensive than United.

IFE. Whilst using an on-board, built in system is easier, most people these days have a laptop/tablet which you can watch films on, so not a deal breaker.

Yes, in places it may be a little more expensive, but I'd happily take more expensive tickets if it means having an airline flying to 4 N.American destinations, rather than an airline with wavering commitment flying to just 1.

Remember, Primera will most likely be advertising itself as a LCC. People are prepared to go for the most basic fares for those airlines.

Could they do Vancouver with a stop at say Halifax? just a random thought.

Oooops! Dropped this into the STN thread by mistake a few minutes ago and think i rattled a hornet's nest....
But this is where i wanted to place it

Here goes.... Given that Primera Air's two new routes to New York and Boston will not start operating until June 2018, i have been pondering over the relatively late departure times ie 1715 and 1745. Is it possible that in the coming weeks we might hear of further flight developments ie new Primera Air links between Denmark and BHX, thus Danish pax being able to transit for onward travel to the States.

Just a thought..

Strange flight times. Overnight (almost) both ways. Not the best.

I think that thought has crossed more than one mind.

People talking about Washington that would be great but if you look Baltimore/Washington would be a good fit close to Washington and Philly and should be cheaper fees that both the other 2 airports .

WOW do very well out of BWI, so could be a contender. They are effectively going after WOW's market in a way (LGW & BRS), but direct.

I think that thought has crossed more than one mind.

Say 7.5 hours to N.Y. 15 hours in the air return plus two hours turn round 17 hours. 1..5 hours to Denmark 3 hours return up to 20 hours. That leaves 4 hours for turn round in Denmark and two transits in BHX. Not much margin but it would certainly be working the assets hard.

Erm could Orlando be possible as the other route assuming Toronto?
I hope the other two Translantic Routes are Toronto and Vancouver or Toronto and Orlando

Unfortunately the A321neo doesn't have the range to fly non-stop to either Vancouver or Orlando, so these are unlikely. Primera does have some A321LR on order which would have the range to fly to Orlando (just, assuming no major headwinds).

I hope in time that Primera sticks with the Low Cost TATL market, and that they consider getting a larger aircraft (A330neo anyone?). That would allow them to serve the likes of Orlando, Vancouver, Las Vegas and maybe Los Angeles or San Francisco.

Lets get these first two routes up and running and profitable first though eh? ;)

So unless you're relying on the outlier Primera is not consistently cheaper than United and when it is not by much?

[QUOTE="Remember, Primera will most likely be advertising itself as a LCC. People are prepared to go for the most basic fares for those airlines.[/QUOTE]

So the point you are making is people don't care whether it's cheaper than a full service carrier or not they just like it to be described as "low cost".

BTW I'm not saying Primera are charging too much, most of it is tax and airport charges, I'm just asking why when it's no cheaper than United or AA were why people suddenly think it's better value at that price? At BOS there is the obvious advantage of a direct flight which you can't really put a value on but I'm really talking about the Newark service here.

PS - Although United might force you to leave the plane with violence they don't force you to check a bag, eat the meal or watch the IFE, but if you want to it's at no extra cost.

A330neo anyone?

Just found this, though no longer in the fleet I think...

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
