Interestingly, if these are simple bases with BHX based A/C operating the routes, the would mean that A/C1 which operates the EWR route will be on the ground at BHX for 7:15 hrs a day, with A/C2 which operates the BOS/YYZ route being on the deck for 6:40 hrs a day. This does seem a long time but alas im no expert. The aircraft could also be doing W Patterns but the time on the deck on the America side would not suggest this with 1:30 hrs on the apron for each stop...

Eitherway, whilst this might have been the worst kept secret, its great to see this announced.

With 220 seat aircraft according to their seating plan, with would represent just under 6,200 seats a week and 320 seats per annum.

In weekly capacity terms, this would equate to a capacity of:

EWR = 3,080 seats (+18.9% on 2017)
BOS = 1,760 seats (New Route0
YYZ = 1,320 seats (+93.1% on 2017) - resuming TS are indeed pulling out...

With all the doom and gloom, good to have a good day on the BHX thread!

Hi there nwoody2001, so are we looking at 220 seat per plane at 7 X weekly for New York is 1540 per week or 80080 per year, and Boston 220 X 4 weekly is 880 per week, or 45760 per year... are these figures right or wrong.. AndyC

you need to double your numbers as they are return flights, one flight in, one flight out....

BHX replied to a tweet stating TS havn’t quit; early days I suppose and this is the same team that tweeted you couldn’t fly to Orlando from BHX!

Well if it the same team it's probably 50/50 but it would be a shame to lose them as they are a long standing airline at BHX.

Who's not saying that they will move the service down the road to CWL ? Has some great Canadian Route history with Zoom and has the infrastructure to support it with the daily B787 QR starting up next May.

Hi there nwoody2001, apologises about earlier figures, would these revised ones seem better = 220 @ 7x weekly is 3080, making that 6160 per year, 220 @ 4x weekly is now 1,760 or 91,520 per year... AndyC

any idea of when this could be announced? Primera have 8x 321neo on order according to wiki with an additional 2x 321neoLR due on lease according to wiki. this is 10 a/c in total and only 6 accounted for so far. interestingly they also have a load of 737-Max9(ER) on order so interesting to see where they go...

interesting to have a look at the primera website and slowly but surely it is improving into a respectable website but still some issues.

What you can do is dummy bookings where you can reserve a seat. Now the system does not make you reseverve a seat at the point of booking but you can do if you choose to. the following are the number of reserved seats on the inaugural flights out of the uk... shows how much work Primera have ahead of them to promote their brands...

BHX-BOS = 5x pax
BHX-EWR = 8x pax
BHX-YYZ = 0x pax

STN-BOS = 0x pax
STN-EWR = 5x pax
STN-YYZ = 0x pax

Hello Andrew

Looking through your figures, I think that your Maths is correct.
Let's start with your second calculation.

220 @ 4x weekly is now 1,760 or 91,520 per year... AndyC

This matches my calculation.

220 seats
4 x weekly (x2 for return flights)
52 weeks per year.

That gives 220 x 4 x 2 x 52 = 91520

Looking at your first calculation.

220 @ 7x weekly is 3080, making that 6160 per year AndyC
Initially it looks incorrect.
I get 220 x 7 x 2 x 52 = 160160

But lets look closer.
The figure that you give of 6160 has similarities to my 160160.
If I input 220 x 7 x 2 x 2, I get 6160
As opposed to 220 x 7 x 2 x 52 = 160160
So it appears that you put in '2', rather than '52'. It's an easy error to miss a number, I've done it plenty of times myself.
Great credit to you for 'crunching the numbers'. Please keep going. It can be fun (yes, yes I know, I've just said that maths is fun :wideyed: - but it can be :woot:) and the more you do it, the more your confidence will grow.

Regards

Kevin

I understand Washington maybe next
Whilst I love the ambition, I'd prefer to see a two or three routes started and 'bedded in' before too much ambitious expansion takes place.
I (as an aviation enthusiast), had never heard of Primera Air prior to the speculation of BHX long haul routes. So it's even less likely that the UK general population will know of them.
Having said that, I wish them the very best of luck and hope they go from strength to strength. After all, even Ryanair had to start somewhere.

Regards
Kevin

New routes will of course depend on when Primera get their aircraft. Whilst only 6 out of a possible 18 aircraft that could be used for TATL have been allotted flights, it may be that the remaining aircraft won't be delivered to Primera until later, thereby allowing EWR, BOS & YYZ to "bed in".

I guess any potential new routes will also depend on what forward bookings are looking like for already announced routes. If enough seats have been sold, that would indicate there is potentially demand there for more.

Great stuff, JFY1999(y)

From my musical perspective, I'd like to add the following as a celebration of the new BHX-YYZ route.
The band in question are Rush. A Canadian trio who originate from Toronto (and inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame).
The track is an instrumental simply entitled 'YYZ' in honour of their home city.
It may not be to everyone's taste (I can best describe it as a Rock/Jazz/Classical fusion), but I love it -

Just been looking at Primera and noticed that they're launching from Stansted a month before Birmingham & Paris:

Stansted: EWR 19th April, BOS 18th May, YYZ 19th May
Birmingham: EWR 18th May, BOS 22nd June, YYZ 23rd June
Paris: EWR 18th May, BOS 21st June, YYZ 22nd June

That may explain why on some social media sites Primera are quoted as saying Toronto starts at the end of May 2018 - it does, but only at Stansted and not at Birmingham/Paris.

I assume at the end of April 18 they will only have 2 aircraft available and decided London would be the best market to launch from first.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
