Thanks Carl for the photos you loaded today of the warriors. We're thinking of going so I would be interested in your opinion of the exhibition in general.

Hi there

I actually wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did, we were a party of four friends and all of us came away really impressed. Seeing the Warriers up close was great there is plenty of reading about the history plus associated items. We spent about 90 mins in the exhibition.

It is very popular, you should pre book tickets, which are timed.

Good to see, and although Olsen do an increasing number of cruises out of Liverpool it could do a lot more. Southampton isnt easy or cheap to get to from the north so it can only be a matter of time before other companies follow suit. Lime Street is easy to get to and Pierhead is 5 mins in a taxi

I think this was on a year go and it's returning soon. Friends say was a very good spectacle

The Manx government has released the designs as it prepares to lodge a planning application next month.
The facility is scheduled to open in late 2020 with funding subject to Tynwald approval.
Liverpool mayor Joe Anderson said the terminal would be a "critical piece for our regeneration plans for the north shore".
Manx infrastructure minister Ray Harmer said passengers' needs have been "at the forefront of the design process" with "comfortable and modern facilities".

How the M&S Bank Arena on Liverpool waterfront will look

Liverpool’s waterfront arena officially became the M&S Bank Arena on Monday – after a decade being know as the Echo Arena.
A full rebrand of the arena, part of the ACC Liverpool complex, is now under way. The complex also includes the Convention Centre, Exhibition Centre Liverpool and the Pullman Hotel.
The rebrand comes after a successful Christmas holiday period for the venue, which saw the Theraplate UK Liverpool International Horse Show return for the fourth consecutive year.
The M&S Bank Arena is set for a busy year in 2019, which will see it host high profile artists such as George Ezra, Little Mix and Rod Stewart, as well as Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor Tour. The Netball World Cup is set to attract tens of thousands of global visitors when it comes to the city in July.
Sue Fox, chief executive of M&S Bank, said: “We’re very proud to have been based in the North West since M&S Bank was formed in 1985 and it’s absolutely fantastic to start 2019 with the launch of the M&S Bank Arena – Liverpool’s top venue for music, sport, comedy and family entertainment.”
The venue has hosted over 1,300 performances since it first opened its doors in 2008. Entertainment highlights have included the European MTV Awards, the Davis Cup, Sir Paul McCartney, the MOBO Awards and BBC Sports Personality of the Year.
Bob Prattey, chief executive of The ACC Liverpool Group, which is owned by Liverpool City Council, said: “Last year we marked 10 years since the venue first opened its doors and I’m incredibly excited to start the next chapter as the M&S Bank Arena.
“Based in the region, M&S Bank shares our passion for the city of Liverpool, making it the perfect naming partner for our venue. We look forward to continuing to host a multitude of major events for visitors to the M&S Bank Arena.”

More than 200 extra staff will be taken on at the Port of Liverpool during 2019 as the volume of cargo passing through the port increase.
Port owner Peel Ports took on 145 staff in 2018, all living within 10 miles of the port, and this year it expects to have vacancies ranging from port operatives and straddle carrier drivers to engineers and from data analysts to managerial roles.
Increased trade
There have been a number of announcements already this year in relation to increased trade at the port. In January the 2M Alliance, which comprises Maersk Line and MSC, made the temporary switch of its TA4 route, linking the UK with several US ports, from Felixstowe to Liverpool permanent.
At the end of January Liverpool-based value retail giant B&M said it was increasing the volume of goods it was bringing in through Seaforth. Following on from that, haulier JWT, which handles logistic for B&M, announced a multi-million pound expansion of its presence at the port.
Career paths
Peel Ports chief executive Mark Whitworth, said: “We have always been one of the region’s biggest employers and I’m delighted that our success is allowing us to keep growing. In recent years we’ve transformed what we do and how we do it.
“That provides a huge range of career paths for people joining us, supported by the investment we’re making in development and progress opportunities. We’re really excited to be attracting the latest generation of maritime talent.”

Peel Ports has experienced 7.2% compound growth in the last six years. Last year the company increased turnover by 11%. It also announced a new rail freight service from Liverpool to the north and continued growth with key customers.
The company opened a new linkspan at the Port of Heysham last year and is progressing the expansion of the £750m Liverpool2 terminal.

Natural turnover
This recruitment drive is in addition to replacing staff through natural turnover. It is part of a wider move to bring 250 new staff on board during 2019 in anticipation of new commercial opportunities and further business growth.
It is particularly aiming to recruit function heads, senior managers, operations experts and supply chain leaders from beyond the traditional port community as it aims to expand and strengthen its wider range of logistics services.
Peel Ports increased its staff count last year by over 430, of which 330 employees were transferred in from agency staff and the remaining 100 roles were due to growth.

Plans to flood light the Royal Liver Building at Liverpool pier head. If done would offer a dramatic view, particularly viewed from cruise ships.

PLANS IN FOR LATEST ROYAL LIVER BUILDING DEVELOPMENT

Plans have been submitted for a visitor and occupier experience to be established at Liverpool's iconic Royal Liver Building.
The works are part of the next phase of the asset's repositioning masterplan, which is being developed and project managed by CBRE.
The latest application will look to utilise the visually dominant clock tower to produce regular light shows, which will become a new attraction to the city and encourage public engagement. This would require the installation of sequential colour-changing lighting that acts a narrative, honouring the history of the towers as a time piece and look-out.
Simon Hepple, director for the national building consultancy team at CBRE Liverpool, said: "The proposed lighting experience will be one of the first of its kind in the UK, showcasing Liverpool's innovative spirit and setting a new trend.
"It is hoped that the new lighting experience will connect the Royal Liver Building back to Liverpudlians and bring more visitors to the city and will serve as a gathering point, bringing a revival to the waterfront and further promoting the Royal Liver Building and Pier Head as a desirable destination."
Arup has been appointed as the lighting designer following a selection process across Europe, with senior lighting designer Lauren Blow adding: "The scheme aims to rediscover the majesty and form of the grade I Royal Liver Building during the hours of darkness with a timeless external lighting scheme.
"Millions of people have looked to these towers for the time of day and, throughout history, with the hope of security for their loved ones at sea. These will be brought back to life with light to reinstate the original purpose of the clock towers in a 21st century digital format."

I have just visited an exhibition on the work of Charles Rennie Macintosh. I can highly recommend a visit. Closes end of August, at The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool City Centre.

Must-see objects will be displayed outside of Scotland for the first time
The Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, is set to hold a major exhibition exploring the life and work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) and his contemporaries, presenting many objects which have never before been displayed outside of Scotland. The Walker will be the only English gallery to host the exhibition.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh: Making the Glasgow Style, a Glasgow Museums touring exhibition, runs from 15 March to 26 August 2019. The exhibition takes place during what would have been Mackintosh’s 150th year (b. 7 June 1868) and features more than 250 objects, ranging from ceramics and embroidery to stained glass, metalwork and architectural drawings.
The Glasgow Style, a distinctive variant of Art Nouveau, grew out of the technical studios of the Glasgow School of Art and the radically original work of a group of brilliant young designers. They embraced the freedoms offered by the Aesthetic Movement and educational reform.
Alyson Pollard, Senior Curator, National Museums Liverpool, said:
“The work of Charles Rennie Macintosh spans many disciplines, from interior design to architecture, and so we’re looking forward to showing visitors the impressive breadth of his work, as well as its enduring influence.
“As a city, Liverpool shares many similarities with Glasgow, from its industrial heritage as a port city, to its cultural heart and history of producing talented creatives. We’ve greatly enjoyed working with Glasgow Museums to bring this wonderful show to Liverpool, which we’re sure will be extremely popular with visitors.”

My wife and I are fans of Rennie Mackintosh's work and have seen many of the attractions in Glasgow (one of our favourite cities) associated with him. Two of our Rennie Mackintosh favourites are the Scotland Street School Museum and the Mackintosh House.

MERSEYRAIL have revealed the latest phase of upgrade works set to take place ahead of the introduction of the new fleet of Stadler trains in 2020.
Rail stations such as West Kirby, Green Lane, Hamilton Square and Chester will all be affected with disruption to services lasting between one day and 13 days.
Some works will take place at night to minimise disruption.
Wayne Menzies, head of rail for Merseytravel said: “This next phase of planned works will be vital in welcoming our new, state-of-the-art trains to the Liverpool City Region in 2020.

"I want to thank passengers not only for their continued patience and cooperation but for following the advice given which is designed to help keep them on the move.
"We, and our partners at Merseyrail and Network Rail have worked together on this project and significant planning has taken place, to minimise disruption for passengers and people living near to stations wherever possible by having the works take place at night when the stations and wider network is not in use.

"Of course, while these works continue, high-quality rail replacement buses will be available to get people where they need to go.
"We also encourage customers to consider other travel options, including commercial bus services.
"Please check your tickets and passes before you travel.”
The upgrades are part of a rolling programme of planned works which will prepare Wirral and Northern lines for the new state-of-the-art trains.
Some of the works include altering the height of station platforms and realigning the track so that the new train's sliding step can meet the platform edge to provide unassisted access for all passengers.
The planned works will take place between:
  • Rice Lane to Kirkby: line closed, 7-15 September
  • Green Lane: Chester and Ellesmere Port services will not call, 8 September – 20 October
  • Hamilton Square to Hooton : line closed until 14:00, 8 September
  • Aintree to Walton: line closed until 13:00, 15 September
  • West Kirby: platform 1 closed with all trains to operate from platform 2, 16-20 September
  • New Brighton/West Kirby to Hamilton Square: lines closed, 21-22 September
  • West Kirby to Hoylake: closed, 23-29 September
  • Southport to Formby: line closed until 13:00, 29 September
  • Birkenhead Central to Chester / Ellesmere Port: line closed, 13 & 20 October
  • Bache to Chester: line closed, 14-19 October

A planning committee has given the go-ahead for the detailed design of the new £50m Liverpool Cruise Terminal. The city’s new terminal, situated within Peel L&P’s £5bn Liverpool Waters scheme, will be constructed at the Princes Jetty site. The proposal will enable the world’s largest cruise ships - up to 3,600 passengers - to embark and disembark at Liverpool, providing a world-class experience for cruise companies and passengers. The cruise terminal is expected to directly create a number of local jobs.
