Kevin, i heard the Ruby Star An-12 depart yesterday evening. Had to turn the TV up!!. Seriously though, it's great to hear them. In fact it is so quiet again at BHX any aircraft passing over is given an extra glance!. The An-26 are also noisy beasts!.

Spatax Convair 990 Coranado, four engines, fast, noisy as heck and could lay down a smoke screen a WWII Royal Navy destroyer would be proud of, would go down a bundle with the green party etc today.

A quick Google says no but it does hold the record as the fastest subsonic passenger jet achieving mach 0.97 in level flight in the 1960s. A bit of thread drift going on again I'm afraid.

Just heard An-12 UR-CAJ go over my house here in Cambridgeshire outbound BHX to N/A. It went over at about FL190 and had a very distinctive sound. Great to be able to immediately check FR24 to see what it was, unlike my early days of spotting when you would have to wait for something like Stansted Aviation News and try and tie it up.

Kevin

I heard that depart off runway 33 Kevin. Hard not to!!. But I don't mind hearing those old warhorses at all. They are nearly as old as me!!. I use FR24 and also Planefinder ( the £2.99? version) . A mixture of the two works well. Planefinder has some limitations but is useful as it flags most airliners with the operators logo.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
