I understand that mint is a good supplementary herb for dental distress, I use mint in my cooking as it helps me tremendously!

Mrs F is in agony with a wisdom tooth and struggling to eat so I'm going to make some soup. I bought a huge bag of carrots today not realising that we already had loads in so I think I'll go for carrot and coriander.

least you wont have to buy carrots for a time. It will also be good for carrot soup in the future.
Not a good start to the new year for mrs f.

Further to above, a crushed Aspirin in a mug of mint tea can do wonderful things.

Sorry to hear about Mrs F's tooth. Hope she gets it sorted soon.
I love soup but the only thing is I don't find it very filling unless I eat loads of bread with it. I have some home made leak and potato in the freezer, the recipe for which I got from Delia Smiths Complete Cookery Course book. I highly recommend the book as it has all the basics in it such as a white sauce, roux, Yorkshire pudding mix etc as well as more complex and traditional dishes.
I adapted the recipe for leak and potato soup, replacing the leaks with mushrooms. Equally delicious.

I have Delia 's book, covers the basics. But I can't have soup, too wet. I have a tendency to spill liquids so I refrain.

She's got strong antibiotics and industrial strength painkillers so hopefully things will start to improve soon.

It will also be good for carrot soup in the future.

I think I've made enough carrot and coriander soup to last us the rest of the year 🙂

Mrs F ate it for 3 days in a row when her teeth were too painful to chew, we have a few more portions in the freezer though .

Definitely great for this awful weather although I had beef & potato soup today.

Broccoli and Stilton with crusty bread to dip in for lunch or dinner today as we call it.

All soup needs crusty bread to dip into it. Or at the very least, some herby croutons. They are so easy to make. Cut bread into 1-2cm cubes. Drizzle with olive oil, scatter dried herbs (your choice - I tend to go with thyme or mixed herbs) over them and bake in the oven while your soup cooks.

It’s quite tasty, you put a sachet of Thai green curry paste in it so it has a bit of a kick. The recipe says either coconut cream or milk (I use milk) - it’s on the BBC good food page, really easy to make.

I'll look it up, it sounds good! I think I meant coconut milk rather than cream. I usually have a tin or two of coconut milk in the cupboard although I have used cream in the past. As for the Thai green curry paste, I usually make my own. Just throw all the ingredients in a blender. It freezes really well.
Talking of coconut milk, brings me to two of my favourite soups. Tom Yum (Thai hot & sour soup) and Tom Kha Gai (Thai chicken & coconut soup). Delicious!

Haggis anyone?

I'm almost too late, but tonight is Burns night when Haggis, Neeps and Tatties (not to mention a 'wee' dram' of Whisky) are enjoyed particularly by those north of the border.
Personally, I love Haggis and also Balmoral Chicken (a chicken breast stuffed with Haggis).
So, wishing our Scottish members a great Burns Night and hope the enjoy their 'Great Chieftain o' the Puddin' Race' (whisper - just don't tell them it originates from England).

Despite my Scottish ancestry I am ashamed to admit to not ever having tried Haggis. I aim to do so when the opportunity arises though 👍

Haggis is something I cannot think of, given I do not consume animal parts. Anyway, I thought there was ban on hunting!
