I believe that by using the 23R holding bay they actually lose less space. If you think about it, the majority of departures are either from 23L or can use the intermediate departure link M1. There are very few flights that actually need to backtrack to use the full runway length (the TORA is only 330m difference if using M1 rather that full length).

I watched a jet2 A330 depart from even further along 23R a few weeks ago going to Tenerife and seemed to rotate before the second high speed turn off...it's amazing how much less runway is required these days

1.0 SUMMARY
1.1 A programme of up to eight-weeks work to construct the 5th phase of concrete pavement bays and install pits and ducts for the new Taxiway Echo. Whilst work is in progress there will be nightly closures of a portion of Taxiway Delta.
2.0 PROGRAMME
2.1 The overall programme of work will commence on the night of Sunday 27th October at 20:00hrs local until 06:00hrs local on Friday 20th December 2019.
2.2 The programme of pavement building works will be undertaken Sunday to Thursday at night.
2.3 The working times will be:
• Area 1 – H24
• Area 2 – 22:00-05:00
2.4 Taxiway Delta will remain open at Intermediate Holding Point (IHP) D5 and Aircraft Stand Taxilane (ASTL) Lima will be closed behind Stands 2, 4 and 6 for four nights from Monday 18th November 2019 to enable the HV cable junction works to be completed by UKPNS. This work will be subject to a separate OAN.
3.0 LOCATION & SCOPE OF WORKS
3.1 All work in Area 1 will take place within a fenced compound, lit with red obstacle lights, and encompasses the redundant Stands 100 and 101 and the soon to be decommissioned B1d Substation.
3.2 All work in Area 2 will be delineated by red and white melba logs lit with blue obstacle lights and stretches around the northern edge of the H24 area at 22m from Taxiway Delta centreline and a small area to the south of IHP D4. See attached drawing for exact locations.
3.3 The overall scope of works will encompass the following:
• Site Clearance associated with the removal of existing airfield infrastructure.
• Removal of old paint markings leading to and from redundant Stands 100 and 101.
• Removal of high mast lighting.
• Excavation of existing grassed area and construction of proposed pavement.
• Installation of surface water drainage including attenuation.
• Installation of new Primary & Secondary Aeronautical Ground Lighting (AGL) ducting and pits.
• Installation of various taxiway signage & surface markings.
• Diversion of existing AGL cables.
4.0 OPERATIONAL IMPLICATIONS
4.1 Taxiway Closures
4.1.1 Taxiway Delta remains closed H24 at IHP D4 until 05:00L on the morning of Friday 1st November 2019.
4.1.2 Taxiway Delta will be closed HN at IHPs D4 and D5 from 22:00 until 05:00L, Sunday to Thursday from Sunday 3rd November until Friday 20th December 2019.
4.2 Aircraft Manoeuvring Restrictions
4.2.1 There are no restrictions on Taxiway Lima; it remains full ICAO Code E ASTL. See paragraph 2.4 for exception.
4.2.2 During the HN works Sunday to Thursday, access to the Western Maintenance Area will be by prior arrangement through Airfield Control.
4.3 Aircraft Pushbacks
4.3.1 For the duration of the works, the standard pushback for ICAO Code F (A380) aircraft from Stand 12 will be;
• Pushback towards Intermediate Holding Position (IHP) L1 and then tow forwards to IHP D3 before tug release. A ‘nose wheel pushback limit marker’ will be painted on the taxiway for guidance purposes. An Airfield Operations Safety & Compliance Officer (ASCO) must be in attendance for ALL A380 pushbacks from Stand 12 to safeguard the aircraft wingtip from vehicles on the apron road at Stand 10 and to check tow-bar wheel stowage is correct. 4.4 Stand restrictions
4.4.1 Night stopping aircraft are to be parked on Stands 61 (all centre lines) and 62L during the night works.
4.4.2 Stand 62C is available for ICAO Code E aircraft throughout the works utilising ASTL Lima.
4.4.3 Stands 61 and 62 are available for ICAO Code F aircraft outside of working hours only, due to ASTL Lima being maximum ICAO Code E and TWY Delta night closures.
4.5 ICAO Code F Divert Restrictions
4.5.1 ICAO Code F aircraft diverts will not be accepted Sunday to Thursday, between the hours of 22:00L to 05:00L, due to the TWY Delta night time closures.
5.0 LOW VISIBILITY PROCEDURES (LVP)
5.1 Overall, the work has no impact on the airport’s ability to operate during periods of low visibility.
6.0 FURTHER INFORMATION
6.1 A NOTAM(s) promulgating significant operational detail will be issued prior to the start of works.

OAN 106/2019 MAN-TP - TERMINAL 2 CRANE LIFTS

1.0 SUMMARY
1.1 As part of the MAN‐TP transformation, a series of crane lifts will take place at Terminal 2 to lift essential infrastructure, plant equipment and water pipes onto the terminal roof as part of the PP01 project.
2.0 PROGRAMME
2.1 All lifts are scheduled to take place on Thursday 17th October 2019 with a contingency date of Friday 18th October 2019.
2.2 Working hours: day time only and lift times are subject to stand availability.
3.0 LOCATION & SCOPE OF WORKS
3.1 There are 2 lift locations in which compounds will be erected and the crane set up.
3.2 These will be on Stand 210 and Stand 207. After the first location’s lift is complete, the compound will be taken down and moved with the crane to the next location.
3.3 There will be approximately 4 lifts at Stand 210 and 6 lifts at Stand 207. The actual duration of each lift (where the crane is under tension) will be approximately 2 minutes per lift.
4.0 OPERATIONAL IMPLICATIONS
4.1 Temporary closure of stands:
4.1.1 When the required stands can be released by airfield control, they will be closed using the MAPS1 procedure.
4.1.2 Each stand will be required for up to 5 hours, with the majority of the time being used for site setup and disestablishment.
4.2 Stand 207:
4.2.1 The compound will be established such that the head of stand road remains open accept for when there is a lift taking place.
4.2.2 When a lift is taking place, 3 x mobile barriers will be used to temporarily close the road system and members of staff will close the pavement and prevent any person from walking under the load.
4.3 Stand 210:
4.3.1 On stand 210, the head of stand road is underneath the terminal building so will not be affected by the lift.
5.0 LOW VISIBILITY OPERATIONS (LVO)
5.1 This work has no impact on the airfields ability to operate in LVPs.

4.2.3 The low-level blocks surrounding the area requiring joint sealing are placed at 20 metres from the centreline of Delta (outside the graded portion of the strip). Wingtips of aircraft using Delta will overhang the work area, which will be clear of any upstanding objects or loose materials.
4.2.4 The Aeronautical Ground Lights (AGLs) along Taxiway November from abeam Stand 74 to 72, along the relocated ASTL November Alpha and around the radii on to Taxiway Delta to abeam Stand 243 will remain unlit H24 throughout this works programme. Airfield Operations will provide a Follow Me vehicle during the hours of darkness and low visibility operations.
4.3 Pushback Procedures

The work will take place during daylight hours and will require specific visibility and cloud ceiling criteria to be met prior to start of works.

2.1 Works are scheduled to take place on Tuesday 29th and Wednesday 30th October 2019. Thursday 31st will serve as a contingency day should completion of the work suffer a delay.
2.2 In the unlikely event of an AGL control software failure, Friday 1st November will serve as further contingency to enable reversion back to the existing software.

4.3 Stopbars
4.3.1 All Runway Holding Position (RHP) stopbars and their associated Runway Guard Lights (Wig‐Wags) will remain lit and fully serviceable during each of the daily works periods.
4.3.2 Northside taxiway Intermediate Holding Positions (IHP) stopbars will remain unlit during each of the daily works periods.
4.4 Taxiway Centreline AGL
4.4.1 Northside taxiway centreline AGL will remain unlit during each of the daily works periods.
4.5 Re‐instatement of Full AGL Control
4.5.1 When the contractor is ready to re‐instate full AGL system control to ATC, there will be a period of approximately five minutes during which aircraft ground movements will not be permitted whilst the re‐ instatement process takes place. This will be coordinated tactically with ATC to best avoid any operational disruption.
5.0 WEATHER MINIMA
5.1 Work will be postponed in the event that the weather is forecasted to deteriorate below the following minima: Visibility 1500m and/or 1000ft cloud ceiling.
5.2 Should there be a forecast >30% probability of fog or snow the works will be postponed.

The work will require temporary overnight closures of sections of taxiways. Such closures will be managed tactically to avoid operational disruption.
2.0 PROGRAMME
2.1 The overall programme of work will commence on the night of Wednesday 13th and be completed by the morning of Friday 22nd November 2019.
2.2 Work will take place Sunday to Thursday nights, inclusive.
2.3 Nominal nightly working hours will be 22:30 – 05:30L.
3.0 SCOPE & LOCATION OF WORKS
3.1 The overall scope of work will include the following tasks;
Installation of sign baseplates and mounting posts.
Installation of new sign boxes.
Reconfiguration of taxiway designator painted ground markings.
3.2 The work will be concentrated in four areas (not simultaneously), as follows;
Taxiway Delta between Runway Holding Point (RHP) D1 and Intermediate Holding Point (IHP) D2.
Taxiway Bravo between IHPs B4 and B5.
Taxiway Delta in the vicinity of IHPs D6 and D7.
Taxiway November at IHP N1.
4.0 OPERATIONAL IMPLICATIONS Installation of Sign Baseplates and Mounting Posts.
4.1 On the night of Wednesday 13th November, work will take place to install sign baseplates and mounting posts at all the locations listed at paragraph 3.2.
4.1.1 The work will commence on Taxiway Delta at RHP D1 and work progressively northwards.
4.1.2 Work will be planned such that Taxiways Delta (D1‐D2) and Bravo (B4‐B5) are not closed simultaneously, thereby maintaining an aircraft route east/west past the work in progress.
4.1.3 Whilst work is in progress on Taxiway Delta between IHPs D1 and D2, a closure of Taxiway Kilo (K2‐K5) will also be required. Installation of Sign Boxes.
4.1.3 On the nights of Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st November, work will take place to install new sign boxes at all the locations listed at paragraph 3.2.
4.1.4 The operational implications listed at paragraphs 4.1.1 to 4.1.3 will once again apply whilst the sign box installation work is in progress
4.2 Aircraft Pushback Procedures
4.2.1 Whilst work is in progress in the vicinity of IHP D6, the following non‐standard aircraft pushback procedure will apply for Stands 22, 32, 202 and 204;
Aircraft nose wheel abeam Stand 233. Aircraft to taxi out via Taxiway Papa under guidance from Airfield Operations Follow‐Me vehicle. 4.3 Night‐stopping Aircraft
4.3.1 Prior to any work commencing in the vicinity of IHP D6, a night‐stopping aircraft must be parked on Stand 31.
5.0 LOW VISIBILITY OPERATIONS (LVO)
5.1 In the event of forecast low visibility, the night works will be cancelled.
5.2 In the event of un‐forecast reduced visibility conditions (meeting the criteria for Aerodrome Safeguards) when work has begun, ongoing works activities will be curtailed at the earliest opportunity.

The changes are timed to be coincident and effective with the worldwide amendment of aeronautical charts (AIRAC 13/2019).
2.0 PROGRAMME
2.1 The changes will commence at 21:00L on the night of Wednesday 4th, and be completed by 05:30L on the morning of Thursday 5th December 2019.
2.2 In the event of adverse weather or other unforeseen circumstances preventing work being completed on the night of Wednesday 4th, work will take place during designated contingency nights of Thursday 5th and/or Friday 6th December.

2.0 PROGRAMME
2.1 The overall programme of work will commence on Monday 18th November 2019 with a scheduled completion date of Friday 3rd April 2020.
2.2 The work will nominally take place Monday to Friday with daily working hours of 07:30L – 17:30L.
2.3 MASHCo will commence on site on Monday 9th December 2019, when GallifordTry have completed the initial concrete excavation and removal.
3.0 SCOPE & LOCATION OF WORKS
3.1 The overall scope of work will include:
• Site set up,
• Saw cutting and removal of concrete,
• Dig to existing pipe,
• Survey work,
• Install six spurs on to existing hydrant,
• Radiography of welded joints,
• Pressure testing, drying and 7-day soak testing,
• Removal of fuel and decommissioning of line to VC8,
• Install Lean mix Concrete and PQ Concrete,
• Joint Cutting and Sealing after curing period,
• Installation of Emergency Fuel Switches (EFS) at head of stand.
3.2 All work will be located within a demarked work area located across Stands 73 and 74. 3.3 Access to the Valve Chamber (VC8) and the fuel hydrant pots on Stand 72 will be required when the decommissioning takes place (likely to be February/March 2020). Work will take place at night and can be carried out with an aircraft on stand if necessary.
4.0 OPERATIONAL IMPLICATIONS
4.1 Stand Closures
4.1.1 Stands 73 and 74 are closed H24 for pit and duct installation and will remain so until all works are complete, and the stands reopen in the new configuration; scheduled to be spring 2020.
4.2 Ground Service Equipment (GSE) Parking
4.2.1 The GSE areas at the head of the stand will be unaffected by the MASHCo works. However, when GallifordTry move on to their next phase of work at the head of stand to remove existing infrastructure and to install the new high mast lights and fixed electrical power units in the realigned positions, the GSE will need to be temporarily relocated. All affected companies will be notified in advance of this happening.
4.2.2 During decommissioning, a fuel hydrant tanker will be parked airside, 3m from the Critical Part (CP) fence, in the GSE area on Stand 74 for approximately 3 days. The hose and hydrant pot to be used (either 274C or 274D) will be fenced locally to protect them from any GSE traffic.
4.3 Apron Road System
4.3.1 A portion of the apron road system, between Stand 74 and the GSE area will be diverted through a demarked route (through the existing GSE area) for the duration of the works.
4.3.2 The road from Stand 74 across to Stand 113/116, on the new Pier 1, will remain available.
4.4 Aircraft Fuel Hydrant System
4.4.1 Stand 72 will be without fuel for approximately 10 days, when the decommissioning takes place (likely to be February/March 2020). 4.4.2 Stands 73 and 74 will also be without fuel for this period, however, these stands are closed H24 at the moment and will remain so until they are returned to service in the new configuration, therefore they will have no operational impact.
4.4.3 As the programme of work progresses, there will be a requirement for an overnight Terminal 2 (T2) aircraft fuel hydrant shutdown whilst the drain down and decommissioning takes place.
