Runway extension???

I thought I saw a second application below this one on the portal which talked about a 300m runway extension......can't get on as it is down atm. Maybe it was just me and wishful thinking !!

Plain and simple, the public just isn't bothered about this either way. If it ends up getting knocked back despite no actual local outcry, it shows just how broken the process is.

I'd say most of the public don't know anything about it! Speaking to friends and family none of them had a clue what I was talking about.

I agree. Having said that I thought we would be sitting at more than 63 by now.

The local Lib Dems have distributed letters to residents surrounding the airport which hasn't sparked an increase in application responses.

The fact is that despite us posting on all the aviation groups, populated by thousands of aviation fans ( plus numerous anti LBA trolls just waiting to have their say), most just can't be bothered. Many too, won't comment because doing so means providing a name and address. People say they support it but then do nothing. It didn't help that having posted reminders on these groups, the council then shut down the portal for maintenance over the bank holiday weekend, when people probably had more time available to comment.

However, 63 is probably more than for previous applications. When it was the terminal application, opposing comments far outweighed support at this stage and continued to do so. At least so far the anti LBA lot are also off to a slow start.

Irrespective of support or otherwise, this is going to come down to the Plans Panel, their personal wishes, political policies, and their susceptability to outside influences, and I doubt that the recent elections have helped in that regard. Do we think they will take notice of how many people support it on the portal? I doubt it.

I am unsure if, like other planning applications, the Planning Officer has to make a recommendation to the Panel. If so, I think a recommendation of approval is key and there, the amount of support and quality of that support is more likely to be noticed.

What gets me is that the airport have a captive audience of many thouands every day, passing through, but do nothing to enlighten them or ask for their support. Myself and a friend did that for them in 1993, in the terminal, and the volume of support led to approval without a public inquiry. Times change and we could not do that today, but the airport certainly could.

We have discussed it before with LBA management. In any case, by the ACC the consultation period will probably have ended. Even back in 1993 we were not allowed in the terminal when it was open. We had to go airside late evening to collect the statements of support from the post boxes scattered around. Back then there were no passengers or flights out after around 8pm so we had it to ourselves, apart from the terminal officer who followed us around.

Wonder what those we don’t mention tactics will be this time around. On their Internet page they’re encouraging people to formally object to the application on the LCC planning portal and to write to their local councillor and do likewise but no information as yet to what else they may be doing. They’re also appealing for new members on their Facebook page.

Regarding The Plsnning Officer’ making a decision, is it not government policy at the momentvtonsupoirtcairport expansion? And surly they can’t go against the CAA and other bodies recommendations?
I personally see LBA winning this out think it will be a a hard slog

I think LBA will win, eventually. What happens between now and then, God only knows. Maybe LBA meeds to call on support from the ex Chancellor who publicly claimed she would support LBA in future after she was questioned regardimg supporting Heathrow after opposing LBA's new terminal. Not that anyone would listen to her now.
