Think of it this way, if this becomes a future pier with the 60s and add on buildings gone I for one will be very happy with that.

I should add the updated old part of the terminal will probably have a ten year life before it needs refreshing.

Why are members getting "het up" about the appearance of the Terminal Extension?
They say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, hence the different opinions, but the main criteria is "does it give the passenger a better experience in using the airport"
We only have to wait a few more months before we find the answer to that one.
Maybe the basic, warehouse look is designed to reflect the weather, "It's grim oop North..." ;)

Seriously though, I can understand why members here are interested in the aesthetics, but for the average punter an airport is just an airport, the important bit is getting off at that apron at the far end of the flight. Sure it would have been nice for a more aesthetically pleasing extension design, but that would have added time and lots and lots and lots of money to the project. I'd rather see it built, than live forever as a render on a long forgotten web server.

A more aesthetically pleasing extension design would have required a totally new planning application and we all know what that would have thrown up with the few NIMBY's trying to throw every obstacle in the way and the possibility of Leeds City Council bowing down to a couple of dozen people against the wishes of 4.3m passengers who use the airport. Yes it would have been nice but if the interior looks as good as the airport are saying then we have a winner here.

I am 67…been to many many countries for pleasure and business and guess what? I have never pulled into an airport car park and said “That looks great” You pull up, go inside and then you say…” this looks rather nice”…the exterior is not the airport, it's what's inside that matters.

Personally, I think it looks okay anyway. Inoffensive and functional, but each to his own. It looks brilliant at night when the full length of the buildings' windows are lit up.

Still, I have no doubt that once its open and we have an excellent arrivals experience, there'll be plenty of LBA haters slagging it off on line for anything they can think of, including how it looks. Guaranteed.

It wouldn't be LBA without the slagers though, would it?

Let's be honest though, when the best you can say about it as a huge fan of the airport is "looks ok"/"inoffensive" then it's not off to the best of starts...

I'm a huge supporter of the airport and yearn for it to be as good as it can be, but honestly think it looks dreadful from the outside (airside looks ok due to windows).

It just gives those online haters even more ammo...

Of course it could have been better, but I've already explained budget constraints, especially after two years of huge losses due to the pandemic, and why changing the external design wasn't an option. You dont like it, ( obviously). I think its OK, many wont care as long as its good inside where it really matters. and the haters would hate it if it was designed to look like a palace simply because its an airport. Bear in mind too that LBA are also spending millions on the existing terminal and stands, none of which were originally part of this project, so they clearly know their priorities.

Time to move on. It is what it is.

Looking at the last set of pictures, there looks to be quite a lot of internal works still to do. Getting it all done for the summer will be a great achievement by Farrans. I’m looking forward to seeing how things progress 👍
The airport seem confident it will be finished by the end of April, so in roughly 6 weeks time.

Further to what Heather has mentioned, if you look at the discussion going on in the Doncaster forum about the costs involved in running an airport it's very easy to see how quickly these costs can mount up. £5m just to fill a few pot holes for example.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
