It was really strange weather. The Easyjet held for too long by the sounds of it as they, according to reports, declared a fuel emergency when diverting to MAN.

Just sitting in our hotel room I’m Krakow after an almost 2 hour delay today. Unfortunately, the terminal was massively overcrowded, with people sitting on the floor, and you were very lucky to find a seat anywhere. As we arrivevd in good time, we had a total wait of about 5 hours before take-off which wasn’t much fun. This is no criticism of the airport, as the weather conditions were very unusual and the LBA and Jet2 staff were excellent. We are always going to have some issues with the airport being the highest in the UK. Everyone I spoke to can’t wait for the terminal extension to be completed though! Another plus was what looked like a full plane load to me to Krakow.

Manchester and diversion is a topic of great conversation.
9.5 times out of 10 they will refuse you on a divert due to capacity and the ongoing works. Therefore, the only way to divert there is by declaring a fuel emergency!

I did wonder how they could have knowingly got themselves into a low fuel situation.

Not sure how accurate this account is but my neighbours daughter flew back to Leeds from ibiza in early hours of Friday morning during high winds and low viz. Pilot advised only division available was Dublin. So he elected to land at Leeds told passengers to brace and threw it on deck. Ground staff Were amazed he landed as no one else did.
My thoughts are
1 is this account accurate
2 would a pilot really risk getting into Leeds telling passengers to brace if it all went wrong well!!?

It's not accurate as two 737 300s landed around 2330 and 2340 , one a positioning flight that held two hours before landing and the other with passengers on from Dubrovnik.

To be honest that story sounds like a figment of someone's imagination. No pilot would take that risk. If he landed then the conditions must surely have been within limits in terms of visibility and wind. I doubt very much either that any pilot would tell passengers to brace unless it was an emergency. I cannot imagine either why the only available divert was Dublin. It makes no sense.

Don't shoot the messenger
And by the way it's my neighbour and friends daughter recently so please don't say it's a figment of imagination.

Could have been a scary flight for her.

My youngest of 3 doesn't like the lba approach and has been sick a few times. Doesn't bother me!

I was actually listening in to 212 w that came from Manchester and held for ages. He had Manchester east Midlands as his 2 preferred options as he was speaking to jet2 ops
I'm well aware of aircraft safety etc
Was away in the land of nod when the ibiza flight landed.
But in a situation when Manchester are full and so are others etc and Dublin is only option you never know have a go and maybe got lucky

As said can't believe would risk it

All approaches are basically the same arent they?

I'm not shooting any messenger, simply responding. We all know that people can exaggerate. Even neighbours. You clearly had doubts yourself or you wouldn't be asking if it's true?

We have how many airports in the UK? It's very hard to believe that the only diversion airport available was Dublin.

Using phrases like, "I can't believe they would take the risk", suggests they believed their approach into LBA was dangerous when it wasn't. When the aircraft gets to decision height the pilot can land or go around. At no point is that dangerous.

As for alternatives, Manchester isn't currently accepting diverts due to ongoing works. I don't believe for a minute other airports like EMA, BHX or NCL were all full. In my humble opinion your neighbour can tell a good story.

BHX was definitely taking diversions from all over on Thursday through into Friday. Total of eleven I think from BRS,LBA, LCY, and LHR.

Three of the diverts were LBA related two Ryanair and a Aer Lingus (Emerald AT76) and two of the Bristol diverts positioned to Leeds on Friday morning.

Information taken from the BHX movementsblog.

Let's see if any other passengers on the flight comment on here so we get clarification on the situation.
By the way the flight was early hours Friday morning so many alternatives could have been full?

Can't speak for other airports but BHX was taking diverts through Thursday night/ Friday morning for example Jet2 737 G-DRTE operating Malaga-Leeds arrived 21:12departed 10:05 to Leeds but ended up diverting again to East Mids and then sort of gave up operated to Alicante around 07:30 from there maybe passengers bussed down .

Anyway as you say let's see if any other comments surface as the media love a drama accurate or not but to me it looks just like the normal but inconvenient sort of diversion ops.

I can only find one flight that landed from Ibiza in the early hours of Friday morning. It landed at 00.24 shortly after the two flights mentioned above so perhaps the weather conditions had eased which enabled it to land. I just can’t imagine any pilot announcing we’re going in regardless so brace yourselves.

He'd get the sack.

Looks like something is going on looking at Fr24 3in hold and 3 on ground haven’t moved in last 10 mins ! Weather seems to be in limits looking at Fr24

That darned fire alarm has gone off again with the tower evacuated. Three Jet2 and an Aer Lingus in the hold now, one Jet2 landed but stuck in the loop, another pushed back ready to go but going nowhere, and the TUi waiting to push back. No doubt all due to someone having a fag where they shouldn't or using an aerosol near a smoke detector.

Anyway, hopefully that's all it is and the tower is back in business very quickly after the inevitable search and roll call is completed.

As above. Fire alarm.

Update.

Back up and running again with a landing at 1600, the Jet2 taxied on to stand , 4 x 737s lined up on the taxiway waiting to backtrack for take off and quite a few still flying around waiting.

Whoever set off the alarm - I hope they get a bill for the disruption!

To be honest it doesn't surprise me if it was someone smoking.
Heard people complaining that there was no where to smoke or vape when we flew to Belfast last month.
Doesn't affect me as don't do either

according to some people, you only need 1 day in each of the Yorkshire Dales, North Wales and Lake District "to have seen it all". Which is why its minibus tour number 3 this year of the Yorkshire Dales for me on 16th October. Different routes and different things to see each tour.
Apologies for any issues today, I was planning on updating the site but sadly something went wrong so the upgrade has been postponed. Apologies again for any inconvenience caused.

Thank you for your kind donation to our running costs Jenny.
I've done 2 minibus tours with Mountain Goat this week. Monday was North York Moors with over 600 photos and today High Adventure in the Lakes with 750. photos. Slightly snap happy.
I've asked Gareth Southgate for the winning lottery numbers. He said 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6
