Fun to watch but not great PR for the airport. Wind is forecast to be strong at other airport including a certain closed airport (that we're told always has perfect weather)
Except in DSA's case the wind is more or less 'down the slot' today.

The wind is horrendous, and half an hour ago here where I live was the worst in a long time. It's currently blowing 220 degrees, 25 gusting 41 knots so most of the Jet2 flights are waiting for a reduction. Meanwhile the inbound Ryanair 737 MAX from PMI has just entered the hold at 12000 feet and the Aer Lingus has joined it.

Update. The Ryanair last seen descending in the direction of LPL and assume the now absent Aer Lingus did likewise.

The KLM E175 just landed and the previously diverted 737 MAX is about to depart LPL positioning back to Leeds to pick up the passengers. Not sure if the inbound pax are still aboard or now sat waiting for buses !
TAF shows 44kts with 68kt gusts between 0600 today and 0600 tomorrow.

if only the runway was aligned west/east.
Well would you believe it. Even airports with runways aligned west/east are suffering from major disruption today too.

Passengers have been hit with travel chaos after British Airways cancelled flights at Heathrow Airport amid Storm Lilian and its 80mph winds.
The airline has cancelled a number of international and domestic flights at the major London hub ahead of the Bank Holiday. They include flights to Barcelona, Rome and Paris. Other departures are delayed today, including a flight for Munich.

You aren’t wrong. From today’s Daily Mail online!

Disappointing. If only they didn’t post things like that we could pretend it doesn’t happen :)

Oh dear. You are really comparing LBA with LHR?

Yes an airport which operates at 99% capacity will suffer if weather forces a 10-20% cut in capacity.

The difference is at LBA doesn’t operate at anywhere near that level, but many flights can’t even make an approach as the crosswinds are outside limits. They wouldn’t be if the runway was a more sensible alignment. But yes keep all complaining that people posting videos of planes is the problem - if only we pretend it isn’t a problem it will somehow go away :)

We can equally pretend other airports don't have any problems. :)

Who is pretending that? I have explained what is happening at LHR. LHR has different issues, as noted it operates so near capacity that any disruption causes problems and there is little opportunity to recover over the rest of the day. That’s clearly not the same issue as LBA.

if you build a runway on the top of windy hill at nearly 90 degrees to the prevailing wind you will have many issues with crosswinds. Had the runway been east/west alignment there would have been much less of an issue with crosswinds this morning. Which part of that do you think is wrong?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
