It was clear here not long ago but on the hill tops to the north if Otley it's been thick fog all day. Looks like it's moving South and has now crossed the valley to the airport.

Yes it rare with the wind in a westerly direction that’s hope the cat 3 is serviceable or the fog clears

Must be coming south as it,s thick in Gildersome now. I am told that it has been thick in York for good part of the day

Yeap we’re definitely in LVP’s as the are limited ground movements. Good news ILS Runway 32 is in use with aircraft taking CATIII.

Foggy at Bramall Lane, Sheffield and at Derby for the footy matches on TV. Oldham v York postponed too and maybe that was due to fog as the Oldham ground is on high ground.

LS seem to be coping with the conditions currently but for some reason the Enter Air (also a 737/8) looks to be diverting!

Because it can't do Cat 3. Only Cat 2 apparently due to a tech issue .

Those are company limits not the ILS limits as the airport has Cat3B capabilities. With Cat3B approaches usually airlines impose a 75m limit due to ground movement capability after landing.

yes cat3a limit on 32 is RVR 75m, and cat3b is 200m. these are the airport limitations.

whether an aircraft and crew can operate to that limit tho is another question and depends on airline requirements, aircraft equipment and potential equipment issues, and crew issues. for examples, due to the challenges at LBA some airlines will only operate to cat3a even tho crew and aircraft may be cat3b capable.

you can assume if an approach isn't made is it because there is some reason preventing it - no one wants to divert if they can help it.

Other way around. 3a 200m, 3b 75m.

Not just company and crew but aircraft fit. Most are 3a due to the costs of 3b for the number of times it’s actually needed

Our ATR from Dublin this morning diverted to EDI. Quite a coach journey! Not what you want after a connection from a long haul flight.
