Yes it shouldn't take that long to reopen the runway at LBA. The argument doesn't stand when LPL and MAN can get theirs open much quicker. Manchester having substantially more surfaces to clear too.
And more vehicles to do it with.

I'm more concerned about the lack of gritting and what would appear an absence of any form of snow clearing equipment out on our roads this morning. Typical Leeds council.

Can someone please decipher this for me please. Not savvy with all these ATC acronyms
METAR EGNM 050820Z 07011KT 0800 R14/1100N -SN FZFG OVC002 M00/M01 Q0990=

Current METAR is saying wind from 070 at 11, 800m vis, Runway visual range on RWY14 at 1100m, light snow, freezing fog and overcast at 200ft.

Very true. Maybe that is why LBA is closed for longer, to wait for LeedsCityClowncil to get it's act together.

Please, for goodness sake, let's not start criticising LBA already (again) because it doesn't get the airport open as quickly as LPL or MAN!. They cannot be compared. LPL is more or less at sea level and MAN is much lower than LBA so both will have less snow to clear, and in the case of MAN, loads more money to invest in hugely expensive snow clearing equipment, not to mention a substantially larger workforce to operate it.

It's still snowing here in Cookridge. I have around 7" of white stuff on my conservatory roof, so even as they clear the runway it will be covering over again. Even with runways and taxiways clear, it's the braking action that will determine when movements can start.

It seems to me that every time it snows at LBA, the airport, and by implication the staff, are criticised because it takes longer to re-open than other airports, none of which are situated nearly 700' above sea level!

And we now have those idiots from the small irrelevant airport in South Yorkshire claiming that their runway would be cleared quickly and diversions would not happen there. They seem to have quickly forgotten about the 5 day closure because of snow a few years back which grounded all movements. You can't reason with these people as their airport is immune from all weather conditions.

I wonder if they've factored in snow clearing equipment into the reopening costs. Probably not. They'll have to wait until the snow melts. 🙄

Our problem is our location. Its very possible that DSA would clear the runway quicker. As WH commented other airports are lower so get less snow and when they do it melts quicker.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
