Again!! It's like, every 2 weeks this summer. Last one was caused by a passenger as I understand it.
No idea why the Wizz diverted to LPL and the outbound was cancelled. I drove past LBA at lunchtime and it was clear. Everything else landed. Even the ATRs.
Its very strange that it diverted. Hopefully someone on here will have more info.

Message sent from 9H-WDG telling OCC than diversion to LPL was due to weather at LBA

DEAR OCC.
PLEASE BEADVISED DIVERSION TO EGGP DUE TO WX IN EGNM

Message sent from 9H-WDG explaining reasons for diversion to LPL:

LVP IN FORCE. (low-vis procedures at LBA)
NO AUTOLAND AVAILABLE.
NO WIND SHORT RUNWAY.
UPSLOPE RWY AND STEEP APPROACH SAFETY DECISION.
WILL CALL WHEN ON GROUND

The fire alarm was allegedly down to the building works.
Happens regularly when major building works are happening alongside occupied areas. I speak from experience in managing such projects so Im confident today wont be the last.

Reads like "I really don't like Leeds".
Clearly! It doesn't say why auto land wasn't available - presumably it was runway 14 and the 'steep' 3.5 degree glideslope. They didnt hold at all nor position back either so a plane load of passengers at Leeds had their flight cancelled whilst watching every other flight landing and depart.

Good job he wasn't tracking down the 5 degree glideslope at LCY. To me, the reasoning smacks of cover all bases in trying to justify the decision to divert The touchdown at 14 end isn't upslope and the upslope leading up to the 32 end would surely help bleed the speed off.

In other words keep well away from the place or your in the s***! 😂😂

Well 14 was in use everything else had landed at that time cloud base was scatted at 100 broken at 200 RVR 1500m they have landed in worse conditions
The fact they didnt even make an approach says a lot. As you say, they've landed in far worse and generally Wizz have been pretty good at getting in .

I wonder how widespread this anti Leeds feeling is amongst Wizz pilots.

Hardly anti LBA just one pilot.

Either way its a bit of a cop out when everyone else was using the ILS on runway 14 without pulling the safety card. Perhaps this individual Captain doesn't trust his own credentials.

I got the feeling that OC felt he had to justify in his own mind why he was supporting the funding for DSA because deep down he felt he shouldn't - this seems the opposite with an 'over detailed' report back to OPS (no wind? - looked to be 150/8kts at the time) from the Captain to justify not making an approach when deep down he felt he should?
However - did absolutely the right thing if he was not confident that he could shoot the approach!

I agree if the captain isn't confident in his ability to carry out the approach then it was the right decision regardless of our views here.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
