Oh boy, I enjoyed that!

A nice young lady from the Labour party in Leeds just knocked at my door to see if I was a supporter and was there anything I wished raise.

Oh yes, says I!!

10 minutes later, she left saying she would definitely feed back what she had heard and that :

a) I wouldn't vote for Sobel or any of the other 4 Labour MPs if they were the last MPs on the planet.after their objections to LBAs new terminal.

b). Sobel in particular ratted on the constituency he represents by opposing the new terminal and cosying up to GALBA and ER, and this after winning his position after extolling the virtues of LBA and proclaiming his support for future growth.

C) Whilst the Labour Councillor looks decent, she is seen on her leaflets cuddling up to Sobel and is therefore not an option. The young girl said this was to show solidarity. Well yes, but solidarity with the MPs who are opposing LBA means no votes from me. They should be brave enough to express support and, incidentally, comply with the Leeds Labour Councils policy, which is to support LBA and its development.

d) The Labour objectors shot themselves in the foot with the terminal as we now get another extension to an inadequate building with the same passenger growth - and no big forest to offset C02.

I think she got.the message. To be fair she listened , and understood, - something the MPs seem incapable of.

Anyway, it put a smile on my face, for the first time this week after losing my only sister on Tuesday.

I'm so happy you've put them in their box. Thank you. think locally they need to kick fog horn Neil Walshaw for me to even consider a vote. He's the biggest tosser I've ever had the displeasure of coming across; arrogant, bigoted and quite frankly so far up his own backside that he probably breaths and talks sh*t. I will let them know if they have the pleasure of coming knocking.

The YEP reported on 11th October that he’s standing down at the next election in May and another candidate has been selected to replace him!

So sorry to hear about your loss. Hope the meeting with the canvasser was a help in releasing some pent up emotions.
Heather - So sorry to hear of your sad loss.
Thank you both. Much appreciated. 🙂

Probably joining GALBA full time!

I have a couple of questions. I've had a search but can't seem to find a definitive answers. I'm seeing abit of uproar about the night time qouta and how lba have gone over the qouta and complaints have been made etc. If they have what are the consequences? Also I know they applied to have the night time hours adjusted along with the new terminal and that was canned, but can they apply to have those restrictions adjusted/removed in the future as a stand alone request or can they only be done in conjunction with a planning application?

Firstly, the official figures for night flights show that with two months left of the summer season, LBA had 939 movements available before reaching the 2800 summer limit. It's highly unlikely they even reached that, let alone 600 above the limit.

Personally I view anything at all that GALBA claim as nothing more than fiction and deliberate nuisance.and unlikely to be based on fact. However, now they have logged a complaint, the Council have to investigate. I'm unsure of the outcome if the complaint was upheld. If so, it would show that LBAs figures are fictitious. That seems unlikely. They know they are subjected to scrutiny and are submitted to Leeds Planning. A fine or a slap on the wrists I guess depending on what's found.

Changing the defined night and day hours to match those at other airports requires a Planning Consent application, which can be submitted purely to change the hours, or as part of another application as occurred with the new terminal.

Personally it seems wrong that they even need to. The previous application to change hours was approved by the Council but because it was included in the terminal application, it was withdrawn at the same time..Yet the submission to the Housing Minister was only necessary because of Green Belt legislation relating to the terminal, and nothing to do with the changes to hours. It's a shame therefore that an approved planning application that had nothing to do with Green Belt isn't approved and implemented, purely because it was wrapped up within the withdrawn terminal application. Had it been submitted seperately,.the chsnges wouid be implemented by now.

Thank you for your quick answers wh. I just wondered if there was a possibility of Fines or reduced movements as punishment for going over... am i also correct in saying aircraft like the 321 neos wont add a movement to the qouta due to them having quiter engines? Or is it all aircraft are counted?

so there is absolutely nothing stopping lba requesting a change in the hours again In the near future? I'm surprised they have not done this as it got through with the original planning app or do they not see this as been much of an issue anymore?

I'm not sure on the consequences but what is clear is that any future submission to change the hours could backfire on the airport as there are councillors who would like to end night flights altogether not understanding the way airports or airlines operate.

What are the options? Allow the latest aircraft not currently covered by the restrictions to use the airport unrestricted and await a legal challenge from GALBA.

Submit planning application to amend current flying hours and risk the council making alterations that negatively effect the airport by reducing the flying quota.

My understanding is the airport is confident the latest aircraft types are not covered by restrictions and therefore do not need to be part of the quota.

We know whatever the airport do will likely be challenged by GALBA

If it transpires that GALBA are making sh@t up just to be an irritant to the airport, then the council solicitors should press for compensation to the council for waste of public official’s time and money for having to officially review their complaint(s). It’s almost worth a freedom of information request to the council to understand the volume of complaints from GALBA, whether any are substantiated and the cost to the council for reviewing what seems like malicious complaints without substance.

If LBA has used 600 more movements than permitted as that lot claim then my guess would be the Council could restrict winter movements this winter to 600 instead of 1200, ensuring the annual quota of 4000 is complied with. That could lead to any flights scheduled for night hours being delayed (to after 0700) or diverted (at night,) once the 600 is reached. If that figure is actually reached.......

As for the noise exempt aircraft, we have never had any based at LBA (except turbo props) and as the night movements are almost exclusively based aircraft, all of them count at present - except those scheduled to arrive by 2300 and delayed no later than 0100.

Once Jet2 base A321NEOs and Ryanair 737 MAXs, then the situation will be less of an issue. As for GALBA, if the night quota planning legislation is based on aircraft emitting noise above a set decibel limit, and if the NEOs/MAXs emit less noise than that limit, then I don't see them having a legal case.

That's what I would have thought they wont have a case in that situation if its neo's and max's making the movements anyhow.... do the airport have any way of contesting a reduction introduced by the council? Or is thier word final?

The council can demand the airport stick to the annual limit and I would think they would have to comply. The council can't just reduce the limit arbitrarily though just because LBA apply to vary the night hours. If they don't agree the application, they stay as they are..

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
