Who thinks next year we could move upto 12th place overtaking LPL and EMA and catching upto NCL esp with wizz, tui, increased jet2 and ryan and whatever else at the airport? LBA tends to perform poorly in winter compared to its competition but esp with wizz here now things are looking brighter.

If Tui's promised flights materialise (which I'm still not convinced about) then we are in with a chance.

However we need LBA to come up with more carriers. It's one thing going out and attracting airlines and another waiting for them to drop into your lap - like Tui and Wizz.

Should it not be overturned by VFR what with this being an aviation forum! And whether that would mean Variable Figures Released who knows. Things are looking good right now and therefore happy to embrace the here and now. If future prospects materialise then great if that also pushes us up the table but we shall just have to wait and see as far too much uncertainty going on in the world right now to 2nd guess anything - finding it hard to Putin to words what might happen with COVID and the economy

Exactly, wizz and tui were kinda given to us due to an airport closure, but we need to attract more european carriers such as hop, Brussels airlines, turkish (all gone quiet on TK) etc to key destinations.

Bucharest was DSAs busiest route so that alone will provide a decent boost to winter passenger figures.

As long as the economy and other world events don’t put a massive dent in air travel as a whole I can see Wizz really tapping in to LBAs potential and thus increasing pax numbers still further. This should be one of the best things for LBA since the sad demise of Monarch because it’s an opportunity for more niche markets to be opened up along with some healthy competition on others

Probably a 7 letter word that starts with S and ends in Y is my guess but there had been rumours Wizz were looking to move to LBA well before “being forced” as you put it. I suppose once again time will tell how successful this proves to be but I for one think both LBA and Wizz are on a winner here

Wizz had a long relationship with Peel, but it seems to have bee soured with the row with Wizz UK. Peel blame them for quitting without notice, but I can't help but think they knew what was coming and scarpered asap. My opinion only. We will never know.

What I do know is that LBA management have wanted Wizz at LBA for a long time and my understanding is they had meetings about that well before DSA announced closure. Whether that would have led to anything or was precautionary in case DSA closed, again, I couldn't say. And of course, Wizz have their biggest UK operation at LTN, another AMP part owned airport, so there is already a relationship of sorts.betwwen airline and airport operator.

There is certainly potential now for a significant increase in passengers at LBA. If those people who tend to use Wizz continue to do so and those who use Ryanair also continue, then it will be interesting to say the least. Some may switch between the two. The catchment area for these flights has just grown, and the competition between airlines should keep both on their toes. Further down the line it would be good to see more from Wizz using aircraft based at other European airports.

If LBA management were so keen to get wizz on board then it might spur them on to get more concrete laid and a bigger apron which for sure we need at the moment.
Like mentioned in the previous post it opens up the opportunity for new niche routes esp as wizz seem a bit more daring when it comes to new expansion, also LBA Will hopefully have the wizz customers from south yorks continue to fly with wizz and of course our 4th largest catchment area, west yorks so 2 combined which should boost pax numbers.
With the perfect aircraft types wizz should do well out of LBA.

Its all positive news, now we need the world to see the plans that LBA are drawing up for a modernised terminal and show how they are going to give all these extra passengers a positive flying experience from LBA, and LCC move forward quickly with the park and ride station

It's not LCC. Why does poor old LCC get blamed for everything?? Lol. It's the West Yorkshire Combined Authority dealing with the Parkway Station.

As per BBC Radio Leeds news just now - GALBA have awoken! They claim that LBA have operated 600 more night flights this summer season than is permitted by planning regs. That, I very much doubt but Leeds City Council will investigate. The airport already notified the Council of night flight movements so that shouldn't take long.

Funny that this occurs shortly after the minutes of the last Consultative Meeting were issued, and after a certain Councillor known to have an anti airport bias specifically asked about how many night flights had operated.

Let's not forget, the latest generation of aircraft are not subject to night flying restrictions as their noise emissions fall well bellow those the night restrictions were created for.

Typical anti-LBA reporting on the local section of BBC Breakfast. That old cherry once again - the South Yorkshire Mayor had said that there was a credible offer for DSA but Peel said they had not received it. Feature also on the last WIZZ passenger flight to depart from DSA - but not a mention of the first ones landing at LBA (of course!)

I watched Look North this morning thinking that the arrival of Wizzair to LBA would be newsworthy! How wrong! But LBA was mentioned stating that night flights over the summer had exceeded the permitted number and Leeds City Council would be notified by a certain anti airport Group! Then the programme goes over old news about DSA, no mention of the fact the Wizz flights are not lost to Yorkshire but are transferred to LBA.
Look North comes over as very anti LBA for some reason.
