That's departures per day by the looks of it. It more than triples on summer days with around 120 departures on most days.

Is that 120 departures and 120 arrivals daily in summer at LBA?

The reason I ask is that Bristol has 90-100 daily departures and the same number of arrivals in summer, or at least it did last year, and 55-65 daily departures and 55-65 daily arrivals in winter at the moment.

We have between 60 and 70 departures each day in the summer (weekdays) and the same number of arrivals. Winter drops down to 40 to 50 per day.

This summer LBA will have the following amount off daily departures

MONDYAYS = 66
TUESDAYS = 65
WEDNESDAYS = 62
THURSDAYS = 70
FRIDAYS = 70
SATURDAYS = 48
SUNDAYS = 52

Total weekly schedule & regular charter flight departure from LBA = 433

Hi all

Tonights Local BBC Look North news programme reported that China are to use The City of Leeds as their training base for next year's London 2012 Olympic Games

China normally send a big delegation of both athletes and support team personnel. It will mean moving vast amouts people from Leeds to London on a daily basis running from the build up and during both the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We could see some kind of charter flight operation been operated between LBA and one of the London Airports. It may also lead to flybe putting larger aircraft on the Gatwick route.

Along with the team from China, Leeds will also be hosting athletes from the USA, Serbia and Holland ahead of the 2012 London Olympic Games and Paralympic Games.

More than likely use coaches, as the London airports will be saturated with traffic as they are let alone handling more domestic flights.

Air China have already signed a deal with MAN to handle the main transports (to/from PEK/PVG), but Leeds may handle the flights from Holland and Serbia (may even get the USA flights, as Ive not seen anything regarding them yet), as the teams usually fly to their training grounds on charters before the games.

It seems likely that LBA will pick up something due to the Olympics, although I think you are right World_rep and most of the athletes will be transported to the capital by road or rail.

Hi all, please can you complete this survey for a group of students who are doing a feasibility study into a 'proper' viewing area being built to watch aircraft landing and taking-off at LBA: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FXK3TG5 .

Just to emphasise this is an entirely hypothetical viewing area, there are no such plans for one, although their findings may be shared with the relevant authorities who could make it happen.

This was in the local paper this week. It could go in the infrastructre, potential routes or road & rail thread, so I stuck it here.

Optimist with big plans to help airport business soar

As befits a man intending to spend about £70 million at Leeds Bradford International Airport in the next few years, John Parkin is an optimist.

That is the budget the boss of the Yeadon site has to play with to take the airport forward during the most important period in its history.

Planning permission is in place, with some work having already started on the terminal redevelopment, and Mr Parkin believes the much-needed rail link can be in place within a decade providing connections with Bradford, Leeds, Harrogate, York and the rest of the country.

But although everything should be complete by 2021, he is looking at the long-term to measure the impact of the ambitious plans.

“It’s one thing building a new road to somewhere,” he said.

“It’s entirely another when that road, or railway in this particular case, connects up and opens up all of the value of the infrastructure that’s been invested in the region over the years.

“These major infrastructure projects by their nature are usually set in terms of decade-delivery rather than annual-delivery because of their nature.

“I don’t think anyone would argue that transport infrastructure has many, many decades of value to offer. In some cases it runs into hundreds of years of value, as we see all around us.

“If you look at the cost of a project like this versus the length of time it will deliver over, it actually looks cheap. It’s good value to do it and it will serve generations to come.”

The work at the airport will make it an economic hub for the whole region. But closer to home, Mr Parkin says the rail link will also provide some solutions to the problems that have dogged the airport’s neighbours for years.

Complaints about traffic and congestion on the A65 and A658 are regularly received at LBIA.

Although Mr Parkin says some of the complaints are misjudged, he says the rail link will have a positive impact.

“I think it’s important to keep things in balance,” he said.

“There was some work recently which showed the traffic footprint of the airport is less than the average Morrisons supermarket.

“That’s a reality but it’s not often what is perceived. Notwithstanding that, we have some important targets to achieve in terms of the number of people who get here by car compared to public transport.

“The connection of a rail head at the airport will just transform our ability to do that.”

People living by the airport will see plenty of activity in the coming months, as more work is due on the terminal very soon now planning permission is in place for the £28m project. “We’ve got the planning permission, we’re enthusiastic about the project,” Mr Parkin said.

“It will come in stages. There will be work inside the building now.

“There’ll probably be a couple of stages outside of the current structure and then there will be the finished article.”

But with all this work planned or underway, is there a chance Mr Parkin could take his eye off the ball when it comes to offering the services to passengers across West Yorkshire?

It is what has made the airport such a success in recent times and the chief executive insists the needs of passengers will always be a priority – the best is yet to come.

“The lifeblood of airports is making sure the right routes and services and the right prices with the right airlines are in here,” he said.

“We are fortunate in the airlines we have operating from Leeds Bradford today. We want more routes and we’re working with all of them to do that.

“We’re actually doing rather well in a very difficult market place.

“There is a long list of important brands and operations here but it would be foolish to say aviation is immune to the current economic malaise which besets the world, because it isn’t. At the same time, people do want to fly.

“This airport is not providing the breadth and depth of services that the public in this region require from their own backyard – that’s what we’re seeking to do.”

any new routes for LBIA it seems to be picking up in traffic and passenegerS
its what we want to hear though. you cant keep adding routes with a terminal what cannot handle the extra passagers and road link what cannot hold the extra traffic :LOL:

Ap1995, there have been no new routes announced recently, although LBA does have a new routes which commenced recently to Madeira (Funchal) and another due to start to Bodrum, also with Jet2. Last November a new service (on an existing Jet2 route) commenced with Easyjet to Geneva. Also due to operate was a new Jet2 route to Enfidha, although this replaced Monastir, and has now been cancelled for this year anyway due to the political unrest that has been occurring there.

Lets be honest one or two rotation per week is hardly good news ! We have only really had Easyjet to crow about recently.

Crosswind

I was parked in Cemetery Lane for about three hours this morning, doing a bit of spotting.
The forty plus knots crosswind (according to ATC) made for some very exciting viewing.
It was really blowing the little prop guys around, they were virtually coming in side ways.
You can't beat a good strong crosswind for entertainment value, as long as everyone gets down safely.

Re: Crosswind

Hi Paul
You know you have a serious cross wind when the passengers down the starboard side seats can see the runway whilst on approach! I guess it was like that today. It amazes me how skilled the pilots are at dealing with it to be honest

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
