Before the 600metre runway extension B737-200s regularly used the airport, so the super powerful max8 should have no problem using a reduced length runway from delta, easyjet A320s often do not backtrack as well. R32 from delta taxiway is roughly the old runway length before the extension.
The Easyjet A320s (and A319s) that haven't backtracked are generally heading to Belfast rather than Palma and Malaga. The Ryanair MAX was heading to Alicante so presumably much heavier. Obviously it's capable, but in all the years I've been watching aircraft at LBA since the runway extension, this was the first time I've seen a 737 of any type that's flying to Spain go short.

maybe a very light passenger load on the Ryanair Max? - I often see the Maersk Air Cargo B767 taking off from Birmingham half way down the runway when its empty, and being airbourne with at least a quarter of the runway left!! - its performance and climb are amazing when its empty!

Possible of course, but mid summer, it seems unlikely.

Leeds Bradford Airport has appointed Declan Maguire as its new Aviation Director, strengthening its executive leadership team as the airport embarks on the next phase of its Vision 2030 strategy — a plan to grow annual passenger numbers from four million to seven million by the end of the decade.

With Leeds Bradford Airport proudly celebrating the successful opening of its new terminal extension last month and the airport reaching another milestone in its ambitious £100 million expansion project, the addition of Declan’s aviation expertise puts LBA in a strong position ahead of its busiest time of the year.

Declan joins LBA having previously held senior aviation development roles at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Doncaster Sheffield Airport, where he led on airline partnerships and route expansion.

Bringing more than 15 years of experience in the aviation sector and with a career spanning airport leadership, consultancy, and strategic development, Declan most recently held senior roles in aviation consultancy and data analytics, advising governments, investors and airports on route development, policy, and market growth opportunities.

Speaking on his appointment, Declan comments: “I’m thrilled to be joining Leeds Bradford Airport at such an exciting point in its development. Airports are more than infrastructure — they are deeply embedded in people’s lives. From once-in-a-lifetime holidays to school trips, job interviews to family reunions, they play a role in countless personal journeys. I’m proud to help strengthen Yorkshire’s international connectivity and support the airport’s continued growth as a vital regional asset — and what better time to join, as our new terminal opens, providing Yorkshire with an airport that rivals any European peer and one we can all be proud of.”

Vincent Hodder, CEO, Leeds Bradford Airport, comments: “Declan brings valuable experience, strong industry relationships and a real passion for regional aviation. His appointment supports our commitment to expanding our network, enhancing our airline partnerships and delivering long-term, sustainable growth for Leeds Bradford Airport.”

Leeds Bradford Airport was one of the first UK airports to return to pre-pandemic passenger volumes and is focused on delivering major infrastructure improvements, expanded services, and a net zero carbon operation by 2030.

I believe WH mentioned him and gave brief details in her last ACC report.

Terminal evacuated presumably due dust re construction works.A weekly occurrence.
Unfortunately the risk of fire is greater with refurbishment work taking place. It might pay to place staff to liason with contractors when dusty jobs are being carried out. This way the source of any activations can be located quickly. The way this works is if a smoke/fire detector is activated the Terminal Officer attends the fire panel to ascertain location of the activation. For example 22/63 - the 22 will provide the general location and the 63 is the specific location. If someone is in the location of work being carried out the locator code can be found quickly. It must be found before the all clear can be given. If this is quick enough a full evacuation can be avoided. If it takes over a certain length of time then an evacuation must be initiated. This doesn't include manual call points which are an instant evacuation.

Airport closed again, 2 in the hold, 2 sat on the ground burning fuel
Edit..
Make that 1 in the hold one diverting
The Jet2 that was diverting turned round and landed at LBA as ATC was back on line very shortly after it took the decision. The Aer Lingus from DUB landed OK too.

There's no doubt that contractors working on site can trigger alarms. But there are other ways too! Passengers smoking, vaping or spraying aerosols works! So does some idiot messing with things that shouldn't be messed with.

The fire alarm today was activated by a passenger trying to get out of a door onto the ramp! (Manual call point pressed).

And the one the other week was activated by a contractor who thought it had been deactivated.

Nothing to do with anyone smoking you will be pleased to know.

Dear ACC Member

Please find below an update from Joss on the community consultation events

Charles

We have our next run of community events booked in for September, in Guiseley (Monday 15 September) and Cookridge (Wednesday 17 September).

Kirkstall and Menston are confirmed for October, we are just finalising venues and dates for both.

Baildon is on the list to consider for early 2026 along with the potential of a City Centre location.

I have also sent notification to local LCCs and our MP Katie White.

Kind regards,

Joss

The Cookridge event was Fully Booked when I tried to book at 11:30. I wonder if 'you know who' have instructed members to block book to keep any pro airport people out?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
