We know very little about the climate no matter what they tell us they don't really know. The climate is changing, that is certain but our climate has always changed.

This is nothing to do with adding numbers to a notebook and everything to do with our regions prosperity.
We were told in the 70's that we would experience an ice age by the mid 21st century.
Parts of India experiencing their coldest temperatures for 120 years.
I have taken temperature and rainfall measurements for over 60 years, the hottest and coldest spells over 4 decades ago.
The BBC over Christmas refused to allow a guest presenter on the TODAY programme who wished to present a different view on climate change, the BBC view the argument has been made and we should block any dissenting voice.
I can remember when vast areas of Australia were burnt to the ground and high temperatures in the 50's, this winter's fire/temperatures not even above average , the BBC making a huge event.
We're told this month melting ice in Antarctica a new record, off course it is as the winter level the greatest thickness and greatest coverage ever. 15% melts in summer, therefore, has to be a new record, nothing to do with climate change, don't remember the BBC giving air time to new record for ice coverage, this month wall to wall on ice melting.

Watched Michael Portillo Great American Railroad Journeys (BBC2) yesterday evening in Alaska. Climate expert on there saying the glaciers in Alaska have been retreating since 1890 so climate change has been going on since that date. The melting of the glaciers has not accelerated any faster than it has been doing over the past 130 years. And in those days we didn't have cars, aircraft, oil fired shipping and fossil fired power stations.

This planet has had periods of hot and cold since it existed, and long before man started generating CO2, so there is every chance that this is the planet doing what it has done many times before, and will do no matter whether we all go back to driving horses and carts and travelling abroad on sailing ships. The BBC has clearly made it its mission to drive home their message at every single opportunity. This includes their apparent war on aviation despite the fact that of all major industries, it is the lowest contributor to CO2 emissions at 2% globally. I now watch the ITV news instead which seem to present a far more balanced view on most issues.

Literally everything gets blamed on climate change and global warming nowadays but how do we know that it's not just cyclical weather eg in Victorian times the Thames was regularly frozen over... though it doesn't do that now. And, if it is true, then any effort we make is tiny compared to really tackling the main super power polluters. Leeds Council's efforts to reduce flights from LBA are laughable compared to the real issue of emissions in countries like China and India..I give up. I do find Piers Morgan's comments about Greta Thunberg very funny...he's leading the call for asking why she isn't in school. Seriously, if that happened in this country the parents would be potentially hauled before the courts for long term absence....now with Leeds' Councils climate change agenda that would be an interesting scenario.

If only there were some scientists who looked at this and judged based on the masses of evidence they collected over the years :)

I’m willing to accept that pumping out millions of tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere during the industrialisation of the last 100 years must have some effect on climate change along with the cyclical changes imposed on us by Mother Nature. What I’m not willing to accept is the narrow minded, do as I say attitude of the climate change fanatics.

Some people claim scientists can get free funding from the IPCC if they want to look into why CO2 is causing climate change but apparently they wont entertain scientists who want to disprove the CO2 theory. I say "theory" because it still only remains a theory as it has yet to be proven in a lab.

Mobile phones

Interesting that the Extinction Rebellion people and fellow travellers are invariably almost glued to their mobile phones, as are many others for that matter.

The difference though is that a lot of people who are not climate change zealots don't preach to the rest of us what we should be doing or not doing. Mobile phones, particularly in their manufacture, are responsible for significant amounts of CO2 emissions but of course the Extinction Rebellion lot and others of a similar ilk conveniently ignore that because using mobile phones is something they like doing.

The climate change movement is full of hipocrites which is why I have difficulty in taking their credo seriously.

The problem is that David Attenborough is now treated as the fountain of all knowledge.
When in 1989 David Bellamy wrote a book on the Greenhouse Effect every one backed his judgement, when by 2005 he changed his mind he was dropped by the BBC and cast out. I accept not helped that as a member of the Referendum party he stood against John Major in 1997 and campaigned to his death for us to leave the E.U., sad he died a day before the December election.
He was a lovely guy and it was sad the BBC treated him so badly, he won one campaign, not sure who will battle for the climate deniers, as far as the BBC concerned, worse then being a Leaver.
Even in the last year I have written a number of letters to the BBC on false and inaccurate U.K. temperature figures, every time I get basically the same response, yes your right, we made an error, The siting of weather stations and the change in buildings in the area, the addition of more concrete reflecting the heat etc all impact on the reading. I have had to move my site at least every decade, yet in pictures I have sent to the BBC, some of the sites BBC use are unchanged in decades.
The spring temperatures in the CDS Spain were the lowest on record, this is a huge tourist area, a trend now for two decades through winter and spring, not a story as its going down not up, yet after a very cold beginning of June the BBC gave a news story of high June temperatures, whilst correct for that few days, nothing on the previous five months of cold temperatures and even snow in 3 weeks before.
Not sure , therefore, how you can use any evidence on the climate to make a case for additional flying at LBA, the opposition is too great, until someone takes on David Attenborough, enough contary evidence to his position, you will be also accused of a ageism as well.

As you said, between 1600 and the early 1800s prior to the industrial revolution the Themes froze over.

"between 1309 and 1814, the Thames froze at least 23 times and on five of these occasions -1683-4, 1716, 1739-40, 1789 and 1814 - the ice was thick enough to hold a fair"

Woolly Mammoths grazed on Doggerland in the middle of the North Sea. It hasn't always been a sea but due to global warming after the last iceage, Doggerland was flooded and became the North Sea that we know today. All long before the advent of planes, trains and automobiles churning out C02 emissions.

Clearly this indicated we've had much colder periods than we do present day and we've already had a substantial change in our climate. We've also had many warmer periods when even London saw monkeys.. Bones have been recovered from central London to prove it. This indicates far warmer period than today prior to so-called man induced global warming .

We have such a primitive understanding of the Earth and how our climate functions. We believe the weather and climate should stay constantly the same. It's ludicrous really to think some of the science community is basing man induced climate change on a couple of hundred years of recorded temperate data. Ice-core samples have shown significantly longer periods of dramatic changes to our weather but it is largely overlooked.

I'd recommend Birth of Britain It's a three part series and it really highlights the changes the British Isles has seen. The link is to part 2 as it's the most relevent to this subject.

Well, well, I'll be dammed. Another nice article by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The must be something in the water??

As previously reported by @White Heather on here the airport has gone public regards its £5 million investment this winter gearing the existing terminal up for a better passenger environment for summer 2020.

Not sure that is correct about them submitting plans in Spring 2020. My understanding is they will be submitted later this year, in the autumn. Otherwise, good to see them investing this £5m now despite the plans to invest another £150m in the next few years. I watched the film Mission Impossible II a few nights ago, which featured Sydney quite a bit at the beginning, and I saw several large and impressive tall buildings adorned with the letters AMP on the top. It does seem we have owners who have a bit of cash going spare!

£5m investment work is already underway. Improvements/changes include:

-Greggs (opening landslide next to the current WHSmith).
-Ritazza is moving from its current position outside of International arrivals to allow for an increase in the size of the Jet2 check in area which will include self service check in machines and bag drop.
In addition to this work (and probably where the majority of the money is being spent) the background baggage belt system is getting a major overhaul which includes increasing the size of the baggage processing/loading bay building between stands 1 and 3. The old baggage belt equipment is being dismantled/removed at the moment.
-Changes to the layout of the central passenger search area.
-The addition of a staff security channel in a different part of the terminal.
-Upgrades to the outside security gatehouse with the addition of a separate staff gatehouse.
-The 'Cargo' shop is now a WHSmiths, and the other WHSmith outlets are having a brand refresh.
-The Camden food outlets are also having a brand/style refresh

I think that's the majority of the work.

LBA have just issued the following press release regards the 5 million investment into the terminal building.

Investing in putting our passengers first

We are investing £5m this summer in a programme of upgrades and customer service initiatives to enhance passenger experience.

The programme of works includes improvements to washrooms and airport lounges providing a greater level of comfort for travellers. Reorientation of the security hall and behind the scenes upgrades to baggage systems will create greater operational efficiency and improve passenger flow through the airport.

Investment in technology means that passengers will also benefit from a smoother transition through the airport, including the introduction of an order and pay service at Saltaire and Cabin Bars plus digital flight updates via WhatsApp. Passengers will also have more choice for retail and food with new and upgraded offerings. Look out for more announcements on this in the coming weeks.

Our vision is to serve our region as a truly outstanding airport and to profoundly change the perception and reality of customer experience for passengers.
While we have a long-term plan to make this vision a reality, we recognise that our passengers need to see some immediate improvements to our services and facilities, and we are committed to getting this right. We have listened to passenger feedback and assessed each and every part of our existing terminal to create a priority list of enhancements, which includes everything from improved wayfinding to new staff uniforms so that passengers can find our teams when they need them.
We are committed to making the journey through LBA smoother and passengers can expect to see a shift change in the way we do things. We’re really excited to introduce a number of customer service initiatives over the coming months to the benefit of all.
Joanna Wild, Chief Commercial Officer at LBA
Earlier this month LBA unveiled fresh plans to build a state-of-the-art terminal, which aims to dramatically improve passenger experience, deliver one of the UK’s most environmentally efficient airport buildings, and support greater economic prosperity for the Leeds City Region, Yorkshire and the North.

These new plans, to be submitted in spring 2020, replace the recently consented scheme and the existing terminal building, with a more efficient and sustainable development. The plans propose the construction of a three floor, 34,000 sq. mt. terminal on an alternative site within the airport’s boundary.

TRANSFORMING LBA

No discussions relating to noise, pollution or CO2 are taking place in the majority of our other airport forums and this puts LBA at an unfair disadvantage.

In case you have never noticed, in the sites slogan we fundamentally support the aviation industry. This shouldn't be at the expense of the environment. As a community we support a balanced approach to expansion, expansion that incorporates steps to mitigate the effects on the environment.

For this reason the discussion has moved into the Current Affairs section of our main forum where you can discuss this further without further moderation.

Please don't comment any further here.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
