A judicial review could well be the next phase in the LBA terminal saga if Gove allows the application. Hopefully though, the LBA proposals are legally watertight and a review will be refused.

The reason Southampton has been subjected to Judicial Review on appeal, is due to a claim that the decision to approve was not legal as it was taken before Robert Jenrick had an opportunity to call it in, as with LBAs terminal. Not sure that's entirely true though - but Eastleigh Council did tell Jenrick that if he hadn't made a decision by a set date, they would formally grant approval. He didn't respond, so they did exactly that. It was said at the time that Jenrick has missed the deadline.

Whether the JR finds in favour of SOU or not, the objectors have got their way and the scheme looks likely to be delayed by up to a year.

If Gove approves LBA, our Northern Green Lunatics otherwise known as GALBA will have to find a better reason to seek a JR as the one used down at SOU won't be valid. The argument will have to be that Leeds Council failed to follow due process - but if that's the case, then approval by Gove would be unlikely anyway. Still, seeking a JR anyway will at least waste more time. I just hope it ends up wasting lots of GALBA money too. They have it coming!!!

I am surprised that LPL would get FRA before LBA but remember LPL dos not have KLM for interlining as LBA does. If and when the new terminal is built
then I think that Lufthansa will want to come to LBA, along with others like Turkish, SAS. It is amazing that it is taking so long to get a decision on this new project.

Well I suppose LPL getting a FRA route proves that mainline operators will look past Manchester and the perception of diluting loads. Let’s hope LBA are negotiating behind the scenes and we will get some good news soon 🙂
Great reply & a positive one at that, it does show mainline operators can / are looking at operating at airports alongside MAN. Who knows LBA4EVER LBA may have never been up for a choice? Agreed its a shame LBA didn't manage to get the link but they could be talking to other airlines? Its still a very very challenging time for the aviation industry and as winter sets in, going to be even tougher. A new airline/route announcement for S22 would be fantastic. Hopefully LBA can pull something out of the bag.

Interestingly the one route that LBA has done very well on in the past is islamabad, more so than many other airports apart from the big ones, maybe a new operator can return on this route. But yes it really baffles me why we dont have german routes, scandanavian routes and the like, the infrastructure is certainly the main reason i feel.
LBA should definitely be the number 1 choice for any airline wanting to open a route to FRA or similar, certainly more than LPL

Agreed, it does baffle me why ISB has not returned yet.. 2/3 weekly would be ideal to start with. Even in these times I can see a ISB route working

A large percentage of the population of bradford is of Pakistani origin, im not sure of the figure but im guessing it must be at least 50percent of asian origin plus other areas have large pakistani population such as dewsbury, so yes it makes sense to look for an operator to fly from leeds to pakistan, its incredible the number of airlines LBA has had on this route so far, lets hope for something new.

I don't agree ,Liverpool is just as worthy to receive a Frankfurt link. We do not have a hub connection, its been called for, for a long time. Lufthansa can obviously see a potential for it, Liverpool is known the world over, so inward tourism is expected.

There’s definitely room for Lufthansa to operate out of both LBA and LPL. But it’s worth remembering that we have KLM and use to have British airways for long haul connections and hopefully in future Aer Lingus Emerald again. Whereas as LPL doesn’t have any of these so this was a good take on Lufthansa. But hopefully their eyes will be fixed on LBA sometime soon.

As I see it, nothing should be left to chance. LBAs route development team should be constantly knocking on doors and making sure LBA is never far from airlines' thoughts.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
