Well these MPs are having a taste of their own medicine. They don't get the airport they want and they have expansion from the airport they don't want. It's called market forces.
I call it Karma , but I really feel for the people directly impacted. Being honest, I didn't see the point of DSA and am not surprised at this eventual outcome, but this is people's jobs and careers at stake.

Anyway, best continue this on the DSA thread as requested, although there's no doubt that this will impact LBA and it's that angle that we are looking at I believe, so there is relevance to LBA too.

Wizz have quite a lot of duplication but Katowice and Bucharest would be useful and depending on Jet2 and the 733 retirement programme Krakow and Budapest - I'm not sure I'd like to see some other services cannibalised - FR have it off to an art and continue to expand slowly - Tallin would be amazing but unsure if they have a base there.

Krakow is 737-800 during the peak seasons, October through January and March/April where it's a nice city to visit. Similar with Budapest and in fact Jet2 at one point ran a 737-800 to Budapest weekly supplemented by the 737-300.

Other then that it is a 737-300 due needed the 800's elsewhere on longer sectors/more profitable during the peak season summer months.

I hope this does provoke Ryanair into expansion and offering services, should they be lost due to this with Wizz Air, from Leeds. A 4th aircraft would be desirable and can be supplemented with additional frequencies to sun routes etc.

Can I suggest that you continue this discussion on the DSA forum?

Totally agree, we all know the score with DSA and the argument for it not being built but it was, did it really hurt LBA that much not really instead why not spare a thought for the many staff affected by Peel running the place into the ground those people will soon be out of work in these very tough economic times. For the likes of me it isn't such a big deal but for sure my love of the hobby and regular trips to my local will be gone for ever you guys will still have your airport we are weeks away from losing ours.

LBA4EVER says that it has been confirmed the airport will close at the end of October. Is there an official announcement and if so is there a link to it. I note the local press indicating that politicians want to save it, and a petition is organised with 25000 hoping it can be saved. Personally I cannot see how it can continue with so few using it. Just the other morning more flights left LBA before 8am than all the flights that day from DSA.

Jet2 already do Krakow but it's suspended since the war started in Ukraine.

I haven't seen anything new, but if you look at the previous announcement, the consultation isn't about whether to close it or not, it's about how best to utilise the airport to best benefit the region - presumably in terms of jobs and investment.
One item I read stated that staff have been informed it will cease to operate from 31 October. Whether that's true it not I couldn't say, but the travel experts on TV seemed resigned to its closure.
It's really hard to see even a combination of local authorities in South Yorkshire affording to buy the land occupied by the airport from Peel Holdings as they (Peel) will know the market value to them and the potential for alternative uses. Any LA that splashes out the many millions required with the knowledge that DSA has always made a loss and is highly unlikely to ever make a profit, should not be in power.
If it's the case that DSA will close, then we can expect TUi to quickly withdraw DSA flights from their winter programme, and if they do, then DSA is dead. No coming back.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
