Eastern Airways Introduces more flights from Leeds Bradford to Aberdeen

Flights from Leeds Bradford Airport to Aberdeen are being increased by Eastern Airways with new improved timings also being introduced to the route.

From 22 April 2013, the UK’s second largest regional airline will increase services from 22 to 26 a week with up to three flights operating in each direction on Mondays and Thursdays.

Morning flights from Leeds Bradford will now conveniently depart at 7am arriving in Aberdeen at 8.10am, while morning flights will leave Aberdeen at 8.40am landing at 9.50am at Leeds Bradford. There is also now a teatime 5.35pm departure from Leeds Bradford and a later 7.15pm evening service from Aberdeen.

Humberside-based Eastern Airways has been operating the scheduled route from Leeds Bradford since 2003 to meet the needs of business travellers, including offshore workers and those in the finance, manufacturing and engineering industry sectors.

Kay Ryan, Eastern Airways’ commercial director, said: “We’re providing more flights each week between Leeds Bradford and Aberdeen to suit the requirements of business commuters travelling between Yorkshire and North East Scotland. The new improved timings include a convenient 7am departure from Leeds Bradford and as well as offering three flights on Mondays and Thursdays, we continue to offer a Sunday service.”

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford Airport’s commercial and aviation development director, said: “We are delighted that the improved schedule offers convenient business friendly flights for commuters between Leeds Bradford and Aberdeen. We hope this will help enhance the existing strong trade links that have grown between West Yorkshire’s engineering and manufacturing sectors and Aberdeen which is commonly regarded as the Energy Capital of Europe.”

A dedicated fast track security channel is offered at both Leeds Bradford and Aberdeen airports for all Eastern Airways passengers to avoid any queues at security search, which also enables the airline to close check-in just 30 minutes before the departure time. Passengers flying with the airline are not charged for check-in, baggage, choice of seat or onboard drinks and snacks.

Eastern Airways provides a comprehensive network of domestic flights spanning the length and breadth of the UK and also flies from airports in Norway and France. It operates a fleet of 31 aircraft consisting of regional jets and turbo prop aircraft.

I'm guessing that they are able to park on one of the smaller stands such as stand 1 or 3, something which the larger aircraft aren't able of doing

what is the largest aircraft stands 1 & 3 can accommodate? is there anyway they could squeeze a 737-300 on them?

Stand 1 can handle a 737-300, parked nose out to the runway, but not for passenger operations. It's only a place to park a free aircraft for a few hours.

Here's the new Eastern Airways, Leeds/Bradford - Southampton route schedule which looks to commence on Monday January 20th the day after flybe pull off the route. I am absolutely delighted to see that Eastern are taking up the vacancy left by Flybe. Considering it was the introduction of Flybe services to Southampton and Aberdeen that led to the almost disappearance of Eastern from LBA, I find the turnaround of the situation quite ironic and, essentially, we have returned to what we had prior to Flybe operating the routes.

Lbaspotter - looking at your schedules, it would appear that the Sunday rotation will be operated by an Aberdeen based a/c. Do you know which a/c this would be? Also, on your schedule for Aberdeen, Flights EZE4714 and EZE4715 depart/arrive within 30 mins of another flight. Are these additional flights on these days or do they replace another?

I wonder if Eastern might now be tempted to base a 3rd aircraft at LBA and operate it up to DTVA then on to Aberdeen finally doing a ABZ MME LBA service last thing? The bigger 'base' at LBA might cut down on some costs helping to offset the LBA-MME positioning flight.

Yep the EZE4714/4715 is the current service which operates Leeds-Aberdeen mid morning and returns Aberdeen-Leeds mid evening on Monday, Thursday & Fridays only (I understand it operates some flights from Aberdeen in between duties)
The EZE4701/4706 which runs 30 mins in front in both directions morning and afternoon is an extra Monday to Friday service which is been introduced so that Eastern Airways are able to offer passengers through (one-stop) direct service between Southampton & Aberdeen operating via Leeds/Bradford without an aircraft change been required.

It looks as though all flights are to operated by BAe Jetstream 41 aircraft, That also includes the Sunday flight which as you rightly point is to be operated by an Aberdeen based aircraft. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply but I am still somewhat confused.

If EZE4714 and EZE4715 are additional flights, if I am reading it correctly, there would not be an a/c available in Leeds to operate those flights. Surely that would require 3 a/c to operate. Plus, why would Eastern have two departures to Aberdeen within half an hour on a Friday but no early morning departure?

We'll as I said in me earlier post I've only posted the current scheduled which has been published online and are all bookable now using there website. I agree that going by the above schedule they would need a 3rd based aircraft to make it work.

If what's on there website booking page is wrong, It's not my fault, you'll have to get in contact with Eastern Airways and ask them yourself.
Who knows! They may have plans for which requires the use of a 3rd Leeds based aircraft, Brussels route anyone?

Just what I was thinking....

I suspect, however, that the published timetable will change and the MON, THU and FRI flight will disappear at around the same time.

I suspect they will be a bit more expensive than FlyBe too but I am still pleased they are picking the route up. As has been suggested maybe they might look at Brussels in the future.

It is quite ironic that things are returning to the arrangement as was some 8 years ago almost with a X2 Jetstream base and ABZ & SOU Whats next... IOM back with T3 lol

I would point out exactly what I thought at the time flybe swooped in, Eastern are extremely overpriced. People did jump ship and flock to flybe when they introduced SOU flights down to price. I suspect the majority of customers will continue to use BA and the train.

It is however good to see them pick up the route so quickly with no break in operations to SOU. This is a rare thing at even major airports!!! Plus I am sure passengers will enjoy a return to fee free baggage and complementary drinks & snacks along with Easterns fare superior reliability versus Flybe.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
