I wish Eastern and Flybe would show a lot more imagination when it comes to their Leeds Bradford offerings. Apart from Aberdeen and Belfast, these two airlines appear to be bent on Southampton.

I agree. Would it really harm them to base a 3rd J41 and operate a twice daily Brussels along with a late morning rotation to Copenhagen? A 29 seater would seem to be an ideal size for such routes.

Surely if Eastern were ever to look into maybe operating new services to Copenhagen and Brussels from Leeds it would be better been operated by either a Saab 2000 or Embraer 145? Also maybe get a codeshare agreement with Brussels Airlines and Wideroe if they can't do a deal with SAS.

Eastern already have some codeshare with Wideroe for Norwegian connections from Bergen and Stavanger, so perhaps they could do something similar from Copenhagen, or get the same sort of deal with Brussels Airlines from Brussels.

I beleive Eastern may either have flights or have had flights to Brussels at some point? I think I have seen pictures of their aircraft there.

They flew Durham Tees Valley to Brussels and Cardiff to Brussels around 7-8 years ago but neither route lasted more than a few months. Loads were poor on both. There may have been other routes to BRU with this airline - I don't know. Eastern doesn't currently serve BRU.

Due to flybe axing its 3x daily Dash 8-400 operated Leeds/Bradford - Southampton route again at the end of next week Eastern Airways will from Monday November 2nd upgrade all flights on its own Leeds/Bradford - Southampton route to the larger Saab 2000 which will be LBA based along with the single BAe Jetstream 41 that will continue to operate the Aberdeen route.

EASTERN AIRWAYS LAUNCHES SIGNIFICANT CAPACITY
INCREASE ON LEEDS BRADFORD® – SOUTHAMPTON ROUTE

Eastern Airways has almost doubled seat capacity on its busy Leeds Bradford® – Southampton route
by introducing larger aircraft and increasing frequency to give Yorkshire business travellers even
greater choice.

This latest announcement follows the news last month that Eastern Airways had increased services on
Leeds Bradford® – Southampton service from three to four flights each weekday in each direction.
A larger 50-seat Saab 2000 aircraft will now operate services with an additional 3,700 seats a month
available on the route from Monday 2 November 2015. The change of aircraft will also result in
improvements to the schedule.

Weekday flights will leave Leeds Bradford® at 6.50am, 10am, 2.30pm and 5.50pm, arriving in
Southampton at 7.55am, 11.05am, 3.35pm and 6.55pm. Flights from Southampton will depart at
8.25am, 11.30am, 4.15pm and 7.25pm, landing in Leeds Bradford® at 9.30am, 12.35pm, 5.20pm and
8.30pm. Sunday services will leave Leeds Bradford® at 4.50pm and Southampton at 6.45pm.
Yorkshire has strong business links with Hampshire and the south coast of England, particularly in
finance, insurance, IT, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, construction and manufacturing industries. Also
Southampton is steeped in maritime history with its world class port for cruise liners.

Kay Ryan, Eastern Airways’ commercial director, said: “By increasing capacity and recently upping
the frequency of services due to the popularity of this important route, this demonstrates our firm
commitment to both regions. We’re providing greater choice with more seats, a business-focused
schedule with improved adjustments to timings to meet increased demand from business travellers
commuting between these two vibrant business centres.”

introduction of additional Eastern Airways capacity on the Southampton route to meet demand from
regional businesses. With a flight of around an hour compared to over a four hour rail or road journey,

So what we need to know is are the Saab 2000 aircraft Cat 2 or are we going to see lost of diversions during our lovely winter period.

The Jetstreams are Cat 2 but Eastern don't pay for the additional crew training required.

Good to hear the situation has changed in that respect as it will provide a far more reliable service.

Eastern Airways BAe Jetstream 41, G-MAJU had to make an emergency Landing into Aberdeen Airport this afternoon shortly after take-off whilst it was operating a flight to Leeds/Bradford.

Plane makes emergency landing at Aberdeen Airport

A plane has made an emergency landing at Aberdeen Airport this afternoon shortly after departing.
The Eastern Airways flight T34717 had departed from Aberdeen Airport towards Leeds but it is understood that it was forced to return to Aberdeen after declaring an emergency around 15 minutes into the flight.
The aircraft safely landed at 4.37pm.
Three fire crews were dispatched to the airport, but were their support was not required.

UPDATE: A spokesman for Eastern Airways said: “The captain operating this afternoon’s T3 4717 flight from Aberdeen to Leeds Bradford made a precautionary return to Aberdeen, after receiving an abnormal right hand engine oil temperature indication during flight.

“The engine was not shutdown in flight.
“The Jetstream 41 with 9 passengers and three crew on board landed safely in Aberdeen at 4.37pm.
“The airport fire service was initially put on standby, but was stood down on arrival.
“Our engineers will be carrying out an inspection of the aircraft.
“Passengers are being transferred to another aircraft to take them to their destination.
“We apologise to passengers for the inconvenience, but the safety of our passengers and crew is our number one priority.”

Holes in runways are more common than people probably think. Usually, some quick setting concrete will serfice at least as a temporary measure.
