Sadly four engine aircraft don't generally pay their way.

With the exception of the A380?

Boeing: 15 airlines warned over high-altitude ice

Fifteen airlines have been warned about the risk of ice forming on Boeing's new 747-8 and 787 Dreamliner planes.

The issue - affecting some types of engines made by General Electric when planes fly near high-level thunderstorms - prompted Japan Airlines to cancel two international routes.

There have been six incidents since April when aircraft powered by GE engines lost power at high altitude.

These are the latest technical issues to hit the Dreamliner.

They saw the entire fleet being grounded earlier this year following battery problems.

The Boeing 747-8 series and the new 787 Dreamliner are the only types of aircraft affected by the high-altitude icing issue.

Cathay Pacific places order for 21 Boeing 777-9X aircraft Deliveries to commence in 2021

Cathay Pacific Airways today announced its latest investment as part of the airline’s fleet modernisation programme – the purchase of 21 Boeing 777-9X aircraft from The Boeing Company. The new airplanes, which have a list price of about HK$58 billion, are scheduled to be delivered between 2021 and 2024.

The 777X is Boeing’s newest family of wide-body airplanes that builds on the 777-300ER that is already deployed extensively around the Cathay Pacific network. The 777-9X is a larger twin-engine jet that will have both a larger payload than other twin-engine aircraft and reduced fuel consumption and lower operating costs.

Boeing reports record orders and deliveries for 2013

Boeing has revealed record deliveries and orders for 2013, putting it on track to become the world's largest plane maker for a second consecutive year.

The plane manufacturer delivered 648 commercial planes last year and had a backlog of 5,080 unfulfilled orders - both company records.

The figures mean it is likely to have beaten rival Airbus which will reveal its 2013 orders on 13 January.

Airbus is expecting 620 deliveries.

Boeing Commercial president and chief executive Ray Conner said all three of its US-based commercial plane factories had delivered a record number of planes.

An intriguing design but has anybody ever seen the final result at delivery look anything like the manufacturers interior renders? The interior renders published by various manufacturers always seem so far from reality when the aircraft are eventually delivered.

A clip of the 787 dash nine at Farn-bo-ro two thousand fourteen. A stunning looking plane, I much prefer it to the -800 :good:

Has been a bit boring over past few years,, so it is nice to see some real activity, with the Dreamliner and A350, the 777X and the next gen 737 all coming into service now or soon...
Has anyone Here flown the Dreamliner yet ?

Plenty of customers for the next gen 737 according to the Boeing website, i think that is great as i am bored stiff of A320 variants...
:drinks:

I have to admit it's nice to see something new in the skies although I still think the A320 is a fantastic aircraft. I would like to see a more up-to-date version of the A321 to offer a better alternative to the Boeing 757.

Boeing Delivers First 787 Dreamliner to Saudia
EVERETT, Wash., Feb. 2, 2016

Celebration marks another triple delivery to airline Dreamliner fleet continues to grow in the Middle East

Boeing and Saudia, Saudi Arabia's national airline, today celebrated the triple delivery of two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and a 777-300ER (Extended Range). A third Dreamliner will be delivered to Saudia within the next week. The airline ordered eight 787-9s in 2010.

Saudia is no stranger to such large deliveries. In December 1999, Boeing delivered three 777s to Saudia.

"The delivery of our first Dreamliners marks yet another exciting chapter in Saudia's long-standing relationship with Boeing that began in the early 1960s," said His Excellency Eng. Saleh bin Nasser al-Jasser, Director-General, Saudi Arabian Airlines. "With its reputation for reliability, operational efficiency and comfort, we now look forward to the 787 becoming an integral addition to Saudia's fleet as we continue our fleet modernization and expansion as part of our transformation plans."

The airline will now have 48 Boeing airplanes in its fleet that currently include 777-200ERs, 777-300ERs and 747-400s. Over the last 55 years, Saudia has taken delivery of over 130 Boeing airplanes including 707s, 737s, MD-11Fs, DC-9s and MD90s.

"This delivery to Saudia is an outstanding moment in a partnership that has grown phenomenally over the last several decades," said Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Ray Conner. "Today, we are proud not only to have Saudia join our growing base of 787 customers in the Middle East, but also at the airline's continued confidence in Boeing's technology and airplanes over the years."

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner is an all-new, super-efficient family of commercial airplanes that brings big-jet ranges and speed to the middle of the market. In response to airlines' overwhelming preference, Boeing designed the 787 family with superior efficiency, which allows airlines to profitably open new routes to fly people directly where they'd like to go in exceptional comfort.

Since entering service in 2011, the 787 family is flying more than 350 routes and has established more than 75 new nonstop routes around the world.

More than 60 customers - including Saudia - from around the world have placed orders for more than 1,000 airplanes, making the 787 Dreamliner the fastest selling twin-aisle airplane in Boeing history.

Supposedly there are increasing calls for Boeing to launch a direct replacement for the 757 with airlines clinging onto the 757 as it offers unparalleled advantages over the extended 737 variants with it's significantly better take off performance and range. Boeing has apparently not denied that it is looking into the idea.

I think Boeing made a mistake not having a 757 8 and a 757 9. It is a good aircraft that makes some long haul routes work that wouldn't on a wide body. I wonder if a new version being lighter and having more fuel efficient engines could mean ailrines like Jet2 could access Florida and the Caribbean. If they ever produce one.

Well I guess that's what Boeing are probably thinking. If airlines consider the 757-200 as a versatile aircraft, imagine a 757-X with all the mod cons and lightweight composites.

Boeing has been the premier manufacturer of commercial jetliners for decades. Today, the company manufactures the 737, 747, 767, 777 and 787 families of airplanes and the Boeing Business Jet range

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
